rschenk got a reaction from JQL in "Select Same" and "Select Object" with multiple artboards
+1 bump. I just upgraded to 1.9 and was very excited about the Select Same feature (really the only thing holding me back from using Designer full time instead of Illustrator). Unfortunately, much like you, the way this feature is currently implemented is tantalizingly useless. Until I can limit it to only visible objects, or have locked objects not be included in the selection, it doesn't help. It's so close, yet so far.

rschenk got a reaction from aizome in Limit scope of Select Same/Select Object
+1 I was also surprised by this quirk.
I did not expect Select Same to select invisible objects, and I also did not expect Select Same to select locked objects. Without some way or option to limit the scope to only visible/unlocked objects, this feature is really hamstrung for my uses.
When the Select Same feature selects locked objects, you can easily end up in a situation that feels like a bug: Given I have 10 green circles that are visible, and 5 other green circles that are invisible and locked. Goal, to move the 10 green circles to a different part of the canvas. When I click one green circle, and Select Same, the 10 visibles + 5 invisible and locked circles are selected. And when I try to move my selection to the different part of the canvas, by dragging with the mouse or arrow keys, I cannot move them, because the locked ones are locked. Personally I would have expected only the visible ones to be selected, and then I could have moved them where I wanted.

rschenk reacted to nezumi in Locking artboard doesnt work for "select same" and "select object"
If we have multiple artboards and we lock some of them, using new "select same" and "select object" options will also select elements on locked artboards. Elements selected in that way can be manipulated, deleted etc. This obviously may lead to many unwanted situations where we feel safe because we have locked artboard, but something got deleted/moved anyways, while we were working on other artboard.
I think this makes new, great functionality very limited when we are working with artboards. Clearly would be better to perform selection only on currently selected/active artboards or only on these that are not locked. Whatever is locked should be... well, locked Thats the whole point of locking it
Thanks for great additions, please kindly consider fixing current behavior.

Maybe I am missing something, but is there a way to limit these new functions so they work just for one, selected artboard?
If I want to select all text on the artboard I am working on and ALL text is selected across multiple artboards function becomes useless... I tried locking other artboards but it still is selecting elements across all of them. Whats more - you can even move elements selected in this way while artboard is technically locked. I tried turning on visibility of other artboards but this also didnt worked.
Long story short - if I am not missing anything - can you please make possible to use these new tools only in the active artboard? They work great on single page, but to use them with multiple artboards this is a must in my opinion.
Thanks for the great improvements in 1.9!

rschenk reacted to Cyrisus in Limit scope of Select Same/Select Object
The new 1.9 update added quite a few neat new features, however, I feel like this one could use a few more tweaks to make it even more handy.
It would be amazing if we could have a toggle to limit the scope of these selection functions. As right now they simply select EVERY matching object in your entire document. While this is useful in its own right, its a bit of a nuclear option. I feel like having a toggle to limit the scope of these to say, a layer, would make them amazing for a wider variety of applications.

rschenk got a reaction from Designwiz in Expand Stroke bug (not accurate)
I just wanted to chime in a +1 on this bug. This feature is crucial for me and I find myself constantly switching back to Illustrator to use it.

rschenk reacted to AffinityBrah in Is there a Beta for Offset Path Feature?
Desperately need it for sewing grading patterns. I have tried the workarounds, but it just doesn't work out the way I want it with complex sewing patterns for seam allowances.
I want to stay with Affinity so bad though.

+1 and then some. Joined the forum just to post this.
I downloaded the trial version of Designer and within a short space of time I knew it was a good enough product to buy (especially on sale). During the trial I just created my own documents and played around with the different tools. I was impressed.
After installing the purchased version, the very first document I opened up was an existing document I had been working on in Ai, a map from a GIS program. Went to try and "select by lineweight" and realised I couldn't. Nor by color, or or any other attribute. Ain't no way I can click-select thousands of objects by hand! I am not a programmer, and have been blown away by what your team has done at this price point, but this feature just seems like a very simple sort and select algorithm to implement even in a rudimentary form? I agree that basic functionality like this is an absolute must for any production or even casual environment and am surprised and dismayed to find it absent even after years of asking.

rschenk got a reaction from Malauch in [ADe] Select same color / fill / stroke / appearance
+1 for me too. I purchased Designer several months ago, and find it very difficult to work without this feature. If I am creating my own work from scratch I can work around it, but not when dealing with files created by other software. For example: deleting or restyling the roads on a map, restyling the data points or grid an infographic, or setting up artwork for laser cutting (which uses different colors and fills to tell the machine what to do).
