Alfred reacted to StuartRc in How do I go about making a 10 feet by 10 feet illustration in Affinity Designer on iPad?
    Hi
You can create large illustrations in Affinity Apps. I have worked on 2 x 1m images (300dpi) previously without any issues and mixing both vector and raster components. The brushes are also 300 - 400 dpi raster nozzles. Sometimes have had issues scaling back down in export persona!
What you are suggesting is around 3m. As previously suggested you could scale up or use a lower dpi.

What kind of texture are you using in the image? Could it be a vector representation?

Thank you for your answer! And even the pictures, that's very kind of you!

So, based on this, I won't be able to draw the illustration in a 5ft x 5ft and scale it to 10ft when I'm done with the illustration since the raster texture will probably look awful.
Then I should probably drop the texture then, which I am not happy with though.
Drawing on a 10ft wide canva takes a lot of ram and I don't think my iPad would survive the shock honestly... XD
I have no clue how to go about that apart from dropping the texture altogether. Aw man.

Welcome back to the Serif Affinity Forums, @Estelle-.
You can create a document directly at the required size: even if you’re planning to export to PDF, you would only need to consider scaling if one or both sides were more than 200 inches. (Textured brushes in Designer have vector paths, but the texture itself is raster and therefore won’t scale nicely.)

Thought is being given into the complications of fully supporting these fonts, particularly exporting to formats like PDF and SVG, which do not support variable fonts natively and therefore need to convert them to traditional fonts at export. Not insurmountable but not straight forward.

For those who would like to know how I took and processed these shots in Affinity Photo
My camera is a Nikon D7500 with a Tamron 100-400mm lens and for the jets I used a shutter speed of 1/2000s and the helicopter was at 1/250s to get motion blur on the rotors.
As the day was overcast and shoot at such high shutter speeds the RAW files and very dark so to process them in Affinity Photo the first step I do is to use the Auto Contrast as I find this to give me a good baseline to make more refine contrast an brightness adjustments.
The next step I make is with a Level adjustment manly with the Master and blue channel due to the different dark clouds
The final step that I took on some of the photos is a colour balance adjustment in the midtones range

How about a macro to Flip Height and Width, any use? All it would do is change image orientation then flatten in one step which seems to do the trick on a simple image ?

I have changed the title of this item. Perhaps this is more clear.

I want to have an option to turn around, switch, width becomes the height, and height becomes the width. So switch these two values.

These are in fact — as indicated by @thomaso — Registration marks. They are not intended to indicate where to cut ; they serve to check correct alignment (registration) of the four colours. But they can be a sort of guide for cutting.
You probably can choose them in your printer settings (but it depends on the printer).

Down the center/centre is the same as down the middle. In other words, from the top to the bottom of the page, halfway between the left-and right-hand edges.

    Sorry, you do get it!
In a case like this they don’t go all the way from the top to the bottom, as either a continuous line or a dashed line: as you observed, they’re rather short and subtle. I’m afraid I misspoke when I referred to “the page”: I should have said “the sheet”. So they’re like the little round marks between the left and right pages in your screenshots (except that, as you hinted, they should be more subtle).

Type an @ sign immediately followed by the first few characters of the username, and then click on the desired name from the list that appears. For example, if I type @its I get ‘itsRachel’ at the top of the list, and when I click on that entry I get @itsRachel in the message composition box.

Alfred reacted to thomaso in What does the "Fold" Corners option do when creating a vector brush?
The Help says: "Corners – determines the method used to control how corners are drawn within the stroke." … while 'overlap' can occur a bit uncontrolled occasionally.

The Corners also get influenced by the Join options in the Stroke panel, for instance …

You can use a Paragraph Text Style to perform the numbering for you.
Here's an example. Note the Paragraph Text Style named Drawing Number and used on the Master Page (lower right), and especially its settings in the Bullets and Numbering portion of the Text Style definition.

I've used the XP-Pen Deco 03, The Artist 12 and now have the XP-Pen Artist-22E, I've used all of them with Affinity and numerous other apps such as Corel Painter, a few 3D apps and escape Motions Rebelle, and FlamePainter, I've never had an issue with Affinity barring the quirky behaviour of the brushes sometimes, but for photo work you'll be fine.

Alfred reacted to thomaso in Trouble with brushes and creating an image to mask with
Ah, I didn't know that you want to use a vector brush and/or apply a stroke to the image, – as mac user I didn't experience Serif CraftArtist 2.0.
In AD you can apply a vector brush stroke to an image + apply the blend mode "Erase" to the stroke only + apply several strokes to one object + apply colour opacity to a stroke. For instance:

      +

In APub you can't set a stroke blend mode separately from the fill colour or the containing image and you can't apply several strokes to an object – thus in APub you would need separate objects for this result.
It is not converted, it gets displayed only with its equivalent in CMYK because of the activated lock button left to the menu. As long this lock is activated every colour will be displayed in the space that is currently set in the menu and every new colour you define / save as swatch will be created in this space, too.
In Affinity you will never get RGB 0,0,0 either displayed or converted to CMYK 0,0,0,100. Consider that RGB 0,0,0 is darker than 100 K because it uses 3 channels, different to the single K channel of CMYK. Accordingly 100 K would appear as dark gray only compared to the rich black of RGB 0,0,0.
What exactly happens in the Colour panel not only depends on the currently selected colour space when defining a colour or saving a swatch but also depends on your document colour space and profile.
Also note, the black + 50% gray swatches of the 4 default swatches in the Swatches panel right to the palette menu    also depend on the current document colour space: In a CMYK document they are defined as 100 and 50 K whereas in an RGB document they are defined as RGB.
