Alfred reacted to Petar Petrenko in Doing uneven/non-square 'cropping'??
Magic Wand can be precize only if there is big difference between neighboor colors. Otherwise, you will have to make additional refinements to get what you want.

On the View menu, choose 'View Mode' and turn off 'Clip to Canvas' (or use the keyboard shortcut `\`).

Alfred reacted to Andrew Tang in Designer file compatibility issue Mac - Windows
Ah, I understand. I don't see why not and it will be a point to consider, but as of now version 2.x is still a way off that you won't need to worry about it for some time yet. :)

Alfred got a reaction from william7 in Designer file compatibility issue Mac - Windows
I understand about the 1.x point releases, Andy. What I meant is that AD 1.x should ideally be able to open files saved from 2.x, albeit with a warning, in much the same way as DrawPlus X6 can open files saved from DPX8.

Alfred got a reaction from Checkmate in Cannot paste text
If I select some artistic or frame text in build 1.5.0.6 and copy or cut it to the Windows clipboard, I can see it on the clipboard but I can't paste it at the text cursor.

Alfred reacted to PixelPest in How this earth can/could be done in Aff-Designer?
Well - I´d take Inkscape with its "Wire-Sphere"-extension to generate one - even when I want to draw it in AD.
Your example looks "inconsistent". ( I still miss a parametric circle tool in AD. The pie or segment tools are not a replacement)
Cheers

Alfred got a reaction from MattP in information Threads - gone
It was certainly in need of heavy pruning, which would obviously not have been good use of a developer's time, but perhaps you could re-post your OP so that it's still available if the old copy disappears from Google's cache.
I still don't understand why TraceyW's thread about the Flood Fill Tool was deleted.

Alfred got a reaction from JKCalhoun in Learning Affinity Designer: Pioneer plaque
Yes, your edited link works fine. Very nicely done. :)
I remember seeing a newspaper cartoon at the time, showing a tall, slim man in a suit and tie, standing on a cratered surface and saying to his companion, "They're just like us, really, except that they don't wear any clothes!" :D

Alfred reacted to JimmyJack in How to blend multiple images?
Maybe I'm missing the meat of the question....
In AP I stacked two masks.
In AD you can do the exact same thing. Or......what I ended up doing...Transparency tool in one direction and a mask in the other.
I'm sure I've missed something.....?

Alfred reacted to CartoonMike in Comic Series Logo
Here's something I did working in conjunction with the Artist/Writer of this series. It was kinda wild when we were working on it. I had AD open on my Tablet Display and Messages open on my iMac Display and we were sending pix back and forth and critiques flew like crazy. Even though the version I"m showing is in color, the original is B/W (the Triangle is white with a stroke around it). We both like the simplicity of the design and its inference of a Science Fiction/Fantasy story.
I'll be posting up lettering that I'll be doing using AD later on. Looking forward to seeing 1.5 go golden, as Text Styles would make lettering so much easier!

+1
The choice of font also gives the text a slightly futuristic look, without being cheesy like Motter Tektura! :P

Alfred reacted to rsi.studio in Save Workspaces
It would be a very useful setting to be able to switch between various saved personalized custom workspaces. Also when you switch to ‘Separate Mode’ and return, all your previous palette positions are wiped (and sometimes requires a restart to get them back to default even) so a saved workspace would be a real time saver.
thanks for your consideration

Alfred reacted to Mark Ingram in Affinity Designer is not Affinity Photo
Care to share any of the bugs you've found (I've seen your post about the UI gamma slider, which is a known issue and will be fixed soon)? It's pretty difficult to fix stuff if people don't let us know what's wrong. And, as this is a beta test, issues are to be expected.

Alfred reacted to Checkmate in Feature request: Attach Text to Path (Freehand Style)
I'm sure everyone designs in their own particular way, but I don't always know I want a block of text on a particular path from the outset.
Sometimes I already have some text as part of a layout and want to try it on different shapes, often I might just want to experiment.
In its current mode, the text-on-path tool assumes you already know exactly how your layout should look from the outset.

Alfred reacted to Ben in Drag guides from ruler with any tool
Ability to edit guides in other tools will be coming soon. When it is done, you'll be able to place a guide on a node when in the Node/Pen tools.

Alfred reacted to Travelling Man in Crowdfounding
No way would I countenance supporting a business in this way. As said earlier, this is no small start-up enterprise, this is a large company that must stand on its own two feet. Serif is a commercial operation not a charity. Anyway how do you reconcile donating via crowdfunding and then having to purchase the product at release. What next for heavens sake, crowdfunding for Adobe or for Apple - don't think so!
-
Alfred reacted to Bungle in Crowdfounding
Do people not realise how big Serif are ?
They are not some small start up that needs the funds urgently, these guys are major major players and have been for a very long time.
We will all get the Windows releases when they are ready (Expect sooner than later, they want their current windows line replaced by the new software)

Alfred reacted to LilleG in Color Well Positioning
The vertical repositioning of the Color Wells as you change from selection or shape to brush has been confusing for me. I get that the Front color well indicates either Primary or Fill, depending on tool and that the Rear color well indicates either Stroke or Secondary, again depending on tool. What I don’t get is why they need to change vertical position. In a shape or selection, Fill is Front and Top but using Paintbrush, Primary stays in Front but moves to the Bottom. It’s not something that you would likely notice unless you move between those tools often as I do. And I finally put a sticky on my monitor...Front is Primary and Fill! But I keep wondering about it so I decided to ask. Is there a reason for the vertical repositioning?

Alfred reacted to MEB in Wrapping an image around another image
Here's a simpler way: duplicate the sword, remove the FX of the duplicate, create rectangles over the areas of the sword that should be above the dragon, add those rectangles (boolean operation), then drag the duplicate layer of the sword over the resulting layer of the boolean operation in the Layers panel to use it as a clipping object (a single layer does all the clipping).
dragon & sword_MEB.afdesign
Note: File must be opened in Designer 1.5.

Alfred reacted to AdamW in Cannot paste text
We think the first Paste will fail if a shortcut has been used to Copy or Cut the text. Subsequent Cut or Copies should then be fine. We'll fix this asap.
