Alfred reacted to Sunset in Headlines with Attitude - Nesting AD
Haven't posted here for a long while, but enjoyed doing some nesting this morning with a picture I took a while back of Paris Mountain in Anglesey. I used Designer for the page including fading out the background photo. Quick and easy.

Alfred reacted to AshTeriyaki in Fur and hair brushes
Here's 20 fur and hair brushes. They are fairly simple, but I like them. Enjoy.

Alfred got a reaction from BatteriesInc in No more new features, dam, filters, or other requests.
For what it's worth, I've never liked auto-save. The function has a nasty habit of kicking in at inconvenient moments (and, as noted, it doesn't always work properly anyway). I much prefer to save manually following any major changes, which may be after as little as two or three minutes or may be only after half an hour or more. Doing it manually also affords me the opportunity to do a 'Save As...' instead of a 'Save', so that I can have different versions available if I decide to revert; this also protects me against the potentially disastrous effects of doing a bad save on top of a good one.

Alfred reacted to Bri-Toon in Affinity Designer: Tips and Tricks
I am really sorry, guys. It appears I did misread MEB's post. And when I followed the instructions on that page he linked us to, I did get a dialogue asking for permission to change the file into an Illustrator file. For that reason, I was very sure it would work, but it was wrong of me to not test it more carefully before posting this. I tried opening it in Illustrator and I had no success. I am very sorry for the false information.
I do however know that exporting a Designer file to a PDF will allow the file to be opened in Illustrator and keep its vector quality with the exception of any advanced gradients, glows, or pixel editing.

Alfred reacted to R C-R in Line Tool
Glad you got this sorted this out. Once you provided the info Alfred requested, it was easy to see what the problem was. If you run into any more problems, please keep that in mind -- there are almost always a lot of possible reasons for something that seems simple to not work as expected, so it is always a good idea to provide as much info as you can, even if it does not all seem relevant.

Alfred reacted to Hokusai in Arrowheads please. . .
Mau,
You mention that this has been "YEARS" but Affinity Designer was only released in November 2014, so barely over 2 years. In perspective, it isn't all that long. I'm sure that the Affinity team has something in the works and when it is ready, they will add it. Until then, we will just have to wait. And yes, the Affinity does listen. They are head and shoulders above the competition when it comes to listening to users' requests. If you think otherwise, then you haven't been using a computer for very long.

Alfred reacted to rubs in Cats Styles
It would be nice to be able to decide the shape used to show styles.

Alfred got a reaction from Ofek Aman in Inverse clipping
Oh, OK, so I did misunderstand! In theory you should be able to add back the overlapping piece instead of deleting it, but in practice it doesn't get added back perfectly, so MBd's method is the way to go.

Alfred reacted to PixelPest in Symmetry tool for creative painting
It´s a neat feature - no question but no replacement for a dedicated symmetry painting implementation in my humble opinion.
(I´m used to work with SketchBookPro/ArtRage/Krita and a few more :D )

Alfred reacted to LilleG in Symmetry tool for creative painting
Thanks, Alfred. That's a very helpful and encouraging video. I know how to do most of the things I want to do in Photo but my copy of Designer has been neglected till now. This (along with the workbook!) is even more reason to dig in and really learn how to use this fantastic app.

Alfred got a reaction from carl123 in Do we have to have a new layer appear with every line drawn ?
Draw one rivet, keep it selected (or re-select it) and press Ctrl+J, or Cmd+J on a Mac, to duplicate it. Move the new rivet to the desired position and press the keyboard shortcut repeatedly until you have enough rivets in a row.
If you want a grid of rivets (or any other object!) you can create and select a row of them and then 'power duplicate' it as described above.

Alfred got a reaction from jae in Affinity Photo typing in Arabic
It looks as though we may have to wait a few years until right-to-left languages are supported in the Affinity apps. Meanwhile, take a look at Arabic Text Reverser.

Alfred got a reaction from Frank The Tank in how to straighten the edge of an object
I don't think there's any way to straighten out the entire blanket without a great deal of painstaking work, either with the Mesh Warp Tool or the tools in the Liquify Persona.

Alfred got a reaction from aikido_master in Open Type - Typography - Which fonts work better
The first one is FoglihtenNo06; the other two are Prida61 and Kleymissky. All three are available for free from here, and they are licensed for both personal and commercial use.

Alfred reacted to neville in Right click option on Tools to Customise Tools...
In AD 1.5.1 if I can right click on the main toolbar and choose 'Customise Toolbar...', why can't I right click on the tools on the left and choose 'Customise Tools...' ?
It is currently necessary to use the Menu for that.

Alfred got a reaction from Paul Martin in Will there be a page layout program comparable to InDesign or Quark?
Sorry, but it was just too irresistible! A fuller answer would be something like: "It will be both, and I hope they're released at about the same time, but I wouldn't be greatly surprised if the Mac version comes first (quite possibly several months ahead of the Windows version)."

Alfred reacted to Wiredframe in Multiplatform done wrong - Electron
Hey guys, just wanted to share this article with you ;)
http://sircmpwn.github.io/2016/11/24/Electron-considered-harmful.html
I believe there are many developers at Serif that think the same.
Thanks for making Affinity Designer and Photo REAL multiplatform!

Looking at the current date, that means “next week” … right? ;)
