Alfred reacted to johnjay in Pen Question
Thanks Alfred - that helps a lot. I'm liking Affinity a lot but still struggling a bit to learn how to do things differently

Alfred reacted to Bauke in Export to .afphoto or .afdesign in export-persona
I miss the option to export to a native Affinity file in the export persona.
I'm aware that I can just save the file as .afphoto or .afdesign, but sometimes my workflow consists of exporting a folder with several files (i.e. svg, jpg in different sizes) in order to make a 'package' of all the output and sources of a project. Having the a copy of the source-file in this package too would be a time-saver, because at this moment I need to move the source file into the package by hand.
I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Alfred got a reaction from PeanutsA in How Do I Get Affinity to Split Windows Like PhotoPlus?
In the Mac version you can choose Separated mode. In the Windows version you simply drag on each window's title bar to make it float so that you can resize and reposition it.

Alfred got a reaction from Fixx in Curves and Blend Options Feature Request / Feedback
Some users might want white to 50% grey, others might want white to black, yet others might want something completely different. I think it would be more generally useful if the current foreground and background colours for the Paint Brush Tool were used as the default colours for the gradient end nodes.

Alfred got a reaction from BobsDaubs in Text stroke direction
If they do see fit to change it, maybe they'll also change the tooltip to 'Gradient Tool'. It's currently just 'Gradient', and when I queried this during the APh on Windows public beta test I was told this was by design. Apart from questions of documentation and parity with the Mac version, there was some silly nonsense about keeping it short; the latter ignores the fact that there are some much longer tooltips such as 'Inpainting Brush Tool'.

Oh, dern... It's Winders. :P Thank you.

Alfred got a reaction from Chogma in Working with multiple pages
Welcome to the Affinity Forums, Bri-ko. :)
Affinity Designer doesn't support multiple pages yet. As a workaround, you can put each 'page' on its own artboard and then print each artboard on a separate sheet; if you export the entire document to PDF, you'll get one artboard on each page of the PDF file, ordered from the bottom to the top of the layer stack (i.e. the order in which you would usually add objects to your document).

Alfred reacted to A_B_C in Designer 1.6 Beta – when?
Well, I can imagine they are tying up a lot of loose ends at the moment. Version 1.6 should be just perfect, and there are quite a few long-standing issues (Boolean Operations, Expand Stroke, …) that need resolving. So I would guess they are just trying hard to get things done … ;)

Nir Sofer's freeware utility InsideClipboard will enable you to view all the formats stored on the Windows clipboard.

Alfred got a reaction from pedrojua in help with Real time editing for a box
The search function on this site isn't as bad as some others that I can think of! That aside, the 'site:' search modifier in general searches can prove very useful at times. It certainly works not only with Google and Bing but also with Yahoo! and DuckDuckGo; it may well work with other major search engines, too.

Alfred reacted to ewforbess in First Affinity Photo Composite
I just recently purchased Affinity Photo for Windows, and I'm loving it! I decided to try my hand at a composite photo, so here it is. I wanted to put my subject in the least likely geographic location I could imagine, and I thought an Edinburgh Castle guard on Bourbon Street would work. I call it, "Castle Guard on Leave." Your thoughts?

Alfred got a reaction from PeanutsA in [Kindle] User manual for Affinity Designer and Designer Photo
I completely agree. For as long as I can remember, although Serif have been quite happy to sell a printed manual to users of their Windows-only applications, the installer has placed a PDF version of the manual in the program folder. These manuals are also available for download by prospective purchasers (and anyone else who's sufficiently interested!) and in recent years the Help for each program has been available online in a searchable format; e.g. the product manuals can be downloaded via the links on this page and the online Help for PagePlus X9 can be viewed here.

Alfred reacted to Pedro Soares in How to Create "Good Looking" Snow
When I started to work with the first beta versions of Affinity Photo, I knew my Photoshop days were over. I can't say enough good things about Affinity Photo even if not everything is perfect (yet). So, for 2017 I decided to start to do free tutorials about how I work with it, and how I face the challenges of creating work that in Photoshop you normally do in a different way.
This is my first tutorial and is about how you can create realistic snow with a custom brush made entirely in Affinity Photo. It works very well to create from snow storms to soft falling snow.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlxXqCCx9AM
You can also go to my blog and download the brush I created in the video and also another one for more light snow.
http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/branca-leve-e-fria/
The language in the video is portuguese (and in the blog) but I'll try to ad english subtitles if requested. Nevertheless it's very easy to follow all the steps I show.
Finally the idea is to do a tutorial more or less every week and I'll try to share it here with all the forum members. But if you want to be the first to know about upcoming tutorials, I invite you to subscribe my newsletter and youtube channel.
Hope you enjoy the video :)

Thank you! That worked out pretty well!

Exactly. Or rather, almost, since a layer is created for you automatically when you start to draw.
Another way to do it would be to draw a shape with the Polygon Tool, convert to curves and then use the Node Tool to move the existing nodes and/or add new ones.

This is the source file of the above image. Make sure to enable grid visibility, everything makes more sense then.

Alfred got a reaction from Chris B in Missing Fonts in Affinity
I think the best you can do is convert the text to curves and apply a thin stroke to increase the weight of the letters, but I don't know how well the rough textured edges in that font will survive such treatment.

Alfred reacted to Rocketdrive in How to do this icon in Affinity designer?
I kind reader of Die Presse directed me towards this topic. I made the illustration with an app called MagicaVoxel (by @ephtracy).
In Affinity Designer I would set up an isometric grid and devote some time to the many gradients for simulating the lighting ;)

Alfred reacted to My Strawberry Monkey in Spaceman
I've been so focused on creating logos and the book that I've not spent as much time in Affinity Photo. Here is one I call Spaceman I worked on a little while ago, it's made up of about 6 or so images. I need to spend more time working on comps like this...

Alfred reacted to predick in [AD] Shortcut to jump back to Draw Persona
Wow! Thanks for your help Alfred,
I can find it now :D.
-
Alfred got a reaction from predick in [AD] Shortcut to jump back to Draw Persona
You don't need a shortcut to "get back to" the Draw Persona from the Draw Persona! ;)
If you change the selection in the first dropdown list from 'Draw' to 'Pixel' or 'Export', you will be able to add shortcuts for switching to the other two personas. :)

Alfred reacted to carl123 in How to evenly distribute vertically two objects inside a layer on a background?
As a temporary workaround you can add 2 rectangles to the outside of your green rectangle (shown in red in my diagram) then select everything except the green rectangle and "Space Vertically".
PS The red rectangles do not need to be the same height, just make sure they touch the outsides of your green rectangle.
