Alfred got a reaction from thomaso in Roughening Effect on Straight Lines (for Sketchy Lines)
Guess where this one lies!

Alfred reacted to myclay in We need to talk about artificial intelligence.
And so it begins.
Adobes big marketing claims of "its all legally backed up" are turning to dust.
Question is; will Adobe honor its claims of legally compensating Artists they stole from and compensate them against Adobe?

Alfred got a reaction from lepr in Affinity Designer v1 Ipad - When I Fill Outer Side Of The Letter O The Inner Side Is Also Filled
Because I’m a master of the unwarranted assumption, of course!
Understood. It’s a pity that the forum notifications system doesn’t flag up edits, but I don’t think that’s something Serif can tweak.

It’s good you to share screenshot.
I was confused both “Merging” and “Fill Mode”.
Now I could do It.
Thank you very much.

Quite correct. The video posted by @Mainecoon364 shows an attempt to the layer option ‘Merge Selected’.
Both of those commands are available via the ‘Operations’ section of the Edit (‘…’) menu in AD1 on iPad.

Yes, the newest video showed another attempt at using Merge Selected.
Thanks for the screenshot. I searched the online Help for AD2 on iPad and got no hits.

Alfred reacted to lepr in Colors reversed when placing screenshots
@Benfischer
The profile embedded in your screenshots is a display profile named LS27A600U which contains localised description "Display".
Affinity apps on macOS (maybe Windows too?) have always (or at least the six years I've used them) had a bug affecting the handling of an image with an embedded profile whose localised description is "Display". Instead of using the profile that's in the image, the app instead uses the first profile whose localised description is "Display" that it has found in your Mac's system files.
Therefore, I suspect your Mac system includes more than one profile with localised description "Display" and Affinity is using the wrong one for your LS27A600U screenshots which are appearing inverted in Affinity.

Alfred reacted to Bartek in 80's style calculator
It's all about the "retro" vibe. I grew up in the 80's, I was raised by 80's style items and by the designers of those items. So I'm just filled with that vibe and sometimes I need to express it.
I have always admired the keyboards of the first personal computers - their texture, their shape, the way characters were applied to them. Also the tube displays and their magical glow, which no LCD screen can render, bring back good memories of distant times. Here I tried to reflect the style of those machines.
The inspiration for this drawing came from a modern calculator with round buttons, whose designer apparently took advantage of the sentiment with which people sometimes refer to objects from the past.

Alfred got a reaction from Dazmondo77 in Delete node AND retain original curve geometry.
Default behaviour is, by definition, whatever the developers have chosen.
Given that the developers will have their own ideas about what should happen with a single shortcut keypress and what should happen if one or more modifier keys are also used, I see nothing wrong with enabling the user to swap things around so that their preferred behaviour is easier to invoke.

Alfred reacted to PaulEC in Keeping the DDS pressure on.
Assuming you purchased directly from Serif, there is a 14 day return period, so you can get a full refund. (There is also a 30 day trial period, so that people can check that the Affinity software does actually suit their needs before purchasing it.)

Alfred reacted to PaulEC in Delete node AND retain original curve geometry.
People who don't want to set their own preferences can simply accept the default settings. Surely it's better to give users a choice, rather than imposing settings which will suit some users, but not others!
That's great! The majority of users will be happy! But what's the problem with having options to change default settings for people who want to change them; the majority can just leave them as they are!

Alfred reacted to Bryan Rieger in Delete node AND retain original curve geometry.
After using Affinity Designer for almost 9 years now and wasting what is probably months of my life cleaning up extra nodes and geometry, I JUST learned that it is indeed possible to remove nodes AND retain the original curve geometry. Apparently, this little nugget of wisdom is buried on the 'Edit curves and shapes' page in the documentation, under a disclosure triangle labelled 'to delete nodes' and placed in a little box with the following note:
It's interesting that the note is larger than the actual text entry for the label 'to delete nodes'.
I have many questions, but the main one is why isn't (attempting to) retain the curve's original geometry the default behaviour? I'm guessing most people who delete nodes simply hit 'delete' without thinking about it, and then have to spend a not insignificant amount of time redrawing what they just lost by deleting the extra nodes.
Also, if this were the default behaviour it would be much more useful on the iPad as deleting nodes via the trashcan icon and then cleaning them up and redrawing them is a rather tedious process. I know this option isn't currently available on the iPad, but if and when you get around to adding it, please consider making it the default behaviour.
If anybody has any arguments as to why the current, destructive behaviour is preferred please leave a comment. I'm really scratching my head trying to come up with use cases where deleting nodes and having your geometry distort is preferable to deleting nodes and having the software attempt to retain the existing curve(s) as much as possible (with fewer nodes).
Addendum: If you select a number of extraneous nodes in a shape/curve (not all of the nodes) and use the ⌥ + Backspace (Delete on macOS) shortcut Designer does a pretty good job of cleaning up the nodes and matching the existing geometry. It's almost as if the 'simplify geometry' feature is almost there, but the user actually needs to go in and select all of the extraneous nodes they wish to delete first. Hopefully one day this might be automated in a future update.

Thanks! So I don’t have to search further!
Maybe I switch for Designer also to V2, I have APhoto in V2 but I didn’t work with Designer very often.
By the way, great video about the Knife tool!

Alfred got a reaction from R C-R in What's the latest version of Photo for Mac?
Or even simpler, “Affinity Photo version 2.x.y”. If the major version number is included with the minor version and build numbers, there’s no need to state it separately.

Yeah another Alfa! Just showing where I started blocking in and doing a few bits all over the place and then a week later. Can't decide on the lady so not quite finished either, perhaps a different pose, facing the car? Not sure. Anyway will update when I've decided and I'm done.

So would I, for whatever it’s worth. Less negotiable is this apostrophe on the second page:
It’s plural, not possessive, so it should say
Also on that page:
I recommend changing the first one to “Negotiating”.
For a consistent punctuation style, you should replace
with
i.e. curly quotation marks instead of straight ones.

@TrentL Thank you! I don’t suppose I am the only person on Earth who usually learns more rapidly by reading than by watching a video whiz by in a minute or two or three or six. You take the time to show the in’s and out’s with such clear explanations and demonstrations! As I watch there is no hitting Pause, scribbling some notes, then Play, then Pause, etc. while trying to spot “which icon on the Context Toolbar was that?,” or “where is that box he unchecked?” Or etc. I am hugely appreciating your tutorials and the information sticks!!! As for the Knife Tool, it is one of my favorite things about Designer V2, but I easily learned things I hadn’t figured out by myself from this tutorial.

Slice & dice your designs with the Knife Tool in Affinity Designer. In this video, we’ll look at how to chop up your vectors with precision and style.
