  1. Vielen Dank, Harald. The short answer seems to be: use PDF/X-3!!
  2. Is that only during the 1.5 beta, Mark, or will it remain the same until version 2.x?
  3. I couldn't agree more! On this laptop with its display height of only 768 pixels (typical of screens which are not Full HD) the bottom of the View menu is cut off, even if I move the taskbar or set it to auto-hide.
  4. I'm not seeing that here in 1.5.0.4, Ralph, but since I copied my test text from Notepad++ I only have Unicode text on the clipboard, so either Paste or Paste Special pastes it as frame text unless the Artistic Text Tool is active. Where did you copy your text from? What formats does the Paste Special dialog offer? Do you have a utility such as InsideClipboard to see what other formats are available?
  5. I wondered about that too. I didn't try to time it, but it did seem like an inordinately long wait.
  6. Thanks, Jef. The code FIFTY50 makes the price drop from $7.99 to $4.99 instead of $3.99, so the discount is 37½% rather than 50%, but I quibble! It's a great resource.
  7. There seem to be major problems with text in this build, Ken. I've steered clear so far. As for a format painter, if there is one it's well hidden! We can, however, use the rather more clunky route of creating a style (via the 'Create Style' option on the context menu) and then applying the new style via the Styles panel.
  8. James Ritson has created a huge collection of Affinity Photo Video Tutorials ("110+ and counting!") on Vimeo, covering basic operations and much, much more. Section 3 in the list includes several videos on cropping; section 6 covers cropping and other retouching options.
  9. Thanks, Jon. It'll take me a while to either customize(!) the keyboard shortcuts or get used to things like the fact that Ctrl+Y toggles wireframe view instead of performing the expected 'Redo', but I'll get there.
  10. There's a long-standing (and very long!) thread on the subject. It can be found here. Common Feature Requests Index
  11. I've installed this beta on a Win8.1 machine with a Core i3 processor (4th generation). Zooming in on one of the sample drawings gives me an instant re-render unless I try to zoom in closer than a million percent.
  12. Does this lack of localization include distinctions between UK and US English, Jon? If I go to 'File Document Setup...' I see 'Nearest Neighbour' rather than 'Nearest Neighbor' as the default resampling method on the Dimensions tab, and 'Colour' rather than 'Color' as the label on the next tab, but the document units are shown as 'Millimeters' instead of 'Millimetres'. I couldn't help noticing that the installer only offered a single 'choice' of English! There are quite a few other niggles, but that's only to be expected at this early stage. Overall, my first impressions are generally very good.
  13. RightFont seems to be available only for OS X. It would be better to have something that also works with Windows (and preferably iOS, too).
  14. There's a download button on each Vimeo page. When you press it, you will be offered a range of MP4 downloads with a choice of size/quality.
  15. That is frequently stated, but it is incorrect. Your computer screen doesn't care about DPI: it only knows about pixels, so (as R C-R said) you should concentrate on resolution in pixels. The 72 dpi figure comes from the old display setting of 72 pixels per logical inch on a Mac (cf. the standard Windows resolution of 96 pixels per logical inch). The pixel density on modern retina displays is, of course, very much higher.
  16. Has this been logged as a feature request? I can see an 'Edit Story' mode being very useful in Affinity Designer, and almost indispensable in the forthcoming Affinity Publisher.
  17. If it gives the dimensions of the photo and other info, it must be open! Check that its window hasn't been minimized (into either the Dock or the application icon, depending on your settings in System Preferences).
  18. Or perhaps an HSL adjustment, with the saturation brought all the way down?
  19. Add a new layer above the greyscale layer, fill it with cyan and set its blend mode to 'Screen'.
  20. I don't think there's more red in the Affinity Photo version, but it looks as though there's more contrast. I would expect them to be the same if the colour profile and preferences are the same.
  21. Serif's DrawPlus (a vector drawing application) has didots and ciceros as well as points and picas, but PagePlus (DTP software) doesn't. I have no idea why.
  22. I remember Flaming Pear plugins causing problems in PhotoPlus 8.0 about a decade ago. Support for them was added in a patch, but Serif had to reverse that in the next patch because it broke something else.
  23. The features are all there in the common core. The only reason why we wouldn't get feature parity between platforms is because the developers slipped up and forgot to provide access to something via the OS-specific UI design.
