  1. What would be your preferred solution, Andy? One simple way of drawing a sphere is to draw a large coloured circle with a small white circle inside it (representing the point where light strikes the sphere) and then creating a blend between the two objects, but Affinity Designer doesn't have a Blend Tool yet.
  2. Good question, Martin! It looks as though the Context toolbar options are missing.
  3. Did you really mean to choose your email address as your username, Tony? It's likely to be seen as an open invitation to spammers. :( By the way, it's Affinity, not Infinity. ;)
  4. That's not what I was hoping to hear, Mark, but thanks for confirming my suspicions! :(
  5. As I wrote in your earlier thread, I believe you need to explicitly choose PDF compatibility when saving the file.
  6. Selection bounds isn't relevant here (which is why it's greyed out) but I think you're right: when distributing objects, we can only set equal spacing between the centres of those objects, not their edges. I can't see an easy way to make the gaps all the same size.
  7. I can't reproduce that behaviour in build 1.5.0.4. If I press 'No' the confirmation dialog closes and I am back in the main 'Save As' dialog with nothing new having been exported.
  8. I don't think it's failing to recognize the drive letter as a valid install location, I think it's correctly recognizing that your drive D: is removable storage.
  9. We could do with a better system for reporting bugs and suggesting improvements. Even though the search facility on these forums seems to work pretty well, it's very difficult to check whether an issue has already been raised by another user.
  10. Agreed. Pressing and releasing the Alt key should also activate the menus (so that you can then press F for File, E for Edit, etc) but currently we can only get that behaviour by pressing Esc after pressing and releasing, say, Alt+F.
  11. PagePlus has always been Serif's flagship application, but that is no longer being developed now that Serif is concentrating on the Affinity suite. Affinity Publisher is expected to become available for beta testing later this year.
  12. Where did you find these tutorials, Jenny? Someone mentioned them in another thread, but the in-house tutorial videos are neither rushed nor lacking in verbal explanation. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10815-in-house-affinity-designer-video-tutorials/
  13. I've played about quite a bit with so-called cogs (actually gearwheels) and circles, creating copies both via Ctrl-drag and Ctrl+J but I haven't had a crash so far. I don't have much else running, apart from a text editor, a screen-capture editor and a couple of (heavily populated!) browser windows. I presume you're using a Windows PC, not a Windows partition on your MacBook Pro.
  14. When I choose to close a modified document, the attached dialog pops up. Does a Close Document dialog really need to say 'The document is about to close'? If it does, it should be a separate sentence; i.e. 'The document is about to close. Would you like to save your changes?' instead of 'The document is about to close, would you like to save your changes?'.
  15. The program reported having suffered a serious error and offered to send a crash report. When I accepted the offer, I got the attached message. To what does the 'Yes/No' refer??
  16. I actually did it by initially making the object smaller than I wanted, ticking 'Scale with Object' in the Layer Effects dialog and then dragging the object out to its final size (which is why I ended up with that strange value) but Mike's method is better.
  17. I've had better luck with the '3D' effect than with 'Bevel/Emboss', but so far I haven't played with it much.
  18. I don't have either CorelDRAW or Adobe Illustrator, but I believe you need to explicitly choose PDF compatibility when saving the file. @Mark Ingram: I'm using 1.5.0.4, and KoBu's file still crashes AD (or opens as blank after renaming).
  19. 1) This beta version hasn't been fully localized/localised yet. 2) You're not alone! You can only adjust the gamma. 3) I haven't tried this. Edit: I have now – see attached. How domed do you want your objects to be? 4) There are many useful videos, complete with commentary. What videos did you find? Unlike you, I am a fan of keyboard shortcuts, but I still missed the 'Undo' and 'Redo' icons at first (especially since Ctrl+Y toggles wireframe mode instead of performing the expected 'redo'). However, the History panel slider is a wonderful alternative: you'll find the History panel at the bottom right, grouped with the Transform and Navigator panels. We're_all_domed!.afdesign
  20. Thanks, Ken. I've just found the same problem in the opposite direction with MattP's landscape 'resize_me' document (from here): if I change it to portrait, I can't change it back to landscape again.
  21. If I load a document, make some changes and then roll back to the root on the History panel, the document is still marked as 'Modified' and I am prompted to save it when I close it. Since 'Save History With Document' is turned off, I would expect the document to close without prompting.
  22. If I start a new document and clear the 'Portrait' checkbox in the Document Setup dialog, I get a landscape document (as expected). When I revisit the dialog the 'Portrait' checkbox has a tick in it, but pressing 'OK' doesn't change the orientation to portrait, and clearing the checkbox also has no effect. I have the same problem if I start with a portrait document, change it to landscape and then try to change it back again.
  23. Affinity Designer doesn't seem to like the umlaut in the file name 'Paket für Sie'. If I translate it to 'Package for you' or simply change 'für' to 'fuer' it opens OK (although there isn't any PDF content, so I just get a blank page in both AD and my PDF viewer).
