  1. I have one small concern that is important to me. I have noticed that in every Affinity screen I have seen so far, the entire on-screen area of the program is colored black, except for the actual artwork or photo. I would like the option to choose other colors than black for these areas. What other colors are now available, and if no others, will this feature be included in updates in the near future?

Please see the Common Feature Requests Index. There is a long thread discussing the need for a lighter user interface.

  2. Take a look at this thread. If you want to apply different adjustments to two different parts of a layer, make a copy of the layer and then clip the second adjustment layer to the layer below so that other layers are unaffected by the new adjustment.

You should be able to invert a selection with ⌘I, but you need to go to the Layers tab and make sure that you've chosen the pixel layer rather than the adjustment layer.

  3. As an unrelated aside, why do you sometimes include the Like This, Quote, & other web site links in your posts? (They just generate permissions errors, so they are of no use to us.)

It looks to me as though David clicked and dragged (but dragged too far) to highlight his earlier post for copying and pasting, instead of simply using the 'Share Post' icon_share.png icon in the top right-hand corner to create a link like this.

  4. sholla,

I don't know if this helps but shapes do not have to be closed to be filled. For open shapes, the edge of the fill will extend in a straight line between the two end points. So for example, a V shaped stroke would fill with a triangle of color, even though it has an open end.

That's true, but I don't think this helps in all cases. For example, the fins on the right-hand side of the OP's drawing look as though they're bounded by vertical lines which aren't joined to anything; in the absence of a tool which automatically creates new shapes whose stroke is set to zero, it seems that the only option is to draw those shapes yourself as DWright has suggested.

  5. Oh the irony of not asking for typos to be called out when I tittle the hole thread "Sweat" rather than "Sweet" thats the second time and last time I will make that typo ;)

Mmmmm who wants a sweaty leaflet?

LOL. I assumed that the inclusion of the word "sweat" was a deliberate choice to indicate the amount of hard work you put into the project! Most definitely a sweet result, anyway. :)

  6. I only have Windows here, so I don't have the Affinity apps yet, but I suspect that the colours in Affinity Photo are background and foreground rather than stroke and fill.

By the way, I see that drp.io destroys files every Sunday, so your reference image is going to disappear in four days' time. It would be better to use the attachments facility (via 'More Reply Options' or 'Use Full Editor').

  7. Hi Alfred :)

You're right that the 'at least' was very deliberate - we hope to support as many variants as possible, but what we're trying to achieve is difficult given the restrictions of the devices and their various architectures. The iPad Air 2 seems to be showing good performance characteristics at the moment. My slight reluctance to commit to specifics at this stage is that we haven't completely finished everything and until we do it's difficult to guarantee anything - I don't want people to all rush out and buy something and then for the next day we find out that it won't work as well as we'd like and then they have something they wouldn't have otherwise bought!

    Hope that makes sense,

    Matt

Thanks, Matt. Yes, that makes perfect sense. (Don't worry. I'm not about to buy an iPad Air 2 on the the off-chance that it might be able to run the iOS versions of the Affinity apps when they become available!)

  8. This doesn't sound like something that could be part of the Affinity suite. How would a PDF app open Designer, Photo or Publisher files?

By exporting Affinity document into PDF maybe?  :)

In that case, the PDF app would not be opening the native files of the other apps in the suite. As I see it, the ability to do this is central to the whole concept of Affinity.

My motto is: "Less Adobe apps, more joy".

I'm inclined to agree with that. I like and use PDF-XChange Editor from Tracker Software. :)

  9. Hi hspeterpanhs,

    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

That's because other RAW converters clip off some of the data that camera manufacturers think may be unreliable. The Serif Labs RAW engine keep that data thus the additional pixels you're seeing. If you change to the Apple (Core Image RAW) instead in menu View ▸ Assistant Manager... (with a RAW image opened), you will get the same dimensions as the other RAW engines. You will need to reopen the RAW image for the new setting take effect.

If the image needs to be reopened when you change to the other Raw engine, it would be helpful if it were reopened automagically.

  10. You misunderstood it, this topic is about a feature request for seamless vector patterns, not about your video!

This topic should be merged with this other one.

Forums are a real crummy place for feature requests.

I disagree. The other thread is about a feature request for seamless vector patterns. This thread is about testing seamless pattern designs.

Forums are fine for feature requests, as long as you have a 'sticky' thread where nothing but requests are posted, with discussion of those requests being posted elsewhere.

  11. My favourite was V3 which I think had a tiger on the CD

PP3.0 was the first version of PagePlus that I used. I also had (and probably still have, somewhere!) DrawPlus 2.0. I've been using most of Serif's range of software products for Windows ever since then.

Although I've been a member of the Affinity forum for about a year, I only started to post here a few days ago after the forthcoming availability of Affinity for Windows was announced. The temptation to buy a MacBook Pro is not quite as strong as it was before the announcement, but it's still there!
