Vector patterns | swatches
Alfred replied to Mensch Mesch's topic in Feedback for Affinity Designer V1 on Desktop
Nor for me. There's just a big gap where the videos should be, but the element inspector in my browser (Firefox) gives me these URLs: http://youtube.com/embed/gzv7SKijIoo?html5=1&fs=1(Vector Pattern Fills) http://youtube.com/embed/i1ke8wx2y0U?html5=1&fs=1(Replicate Tool) -
Thanks, Miguel. That makes sense! I suspect that's why PhotoPlus doesn't support other types of plugins.

Vector patterns | swatches
Alfred replied to Mensch Mesch's topic in Feedback for Affinity Designer V1 on Desktop
I've never used Illustrator, so I can't give you a comparison between the pattern-handling features in the two programs, but these articles from the DrawPlus X8 Help should give you some idea of its capabilities in the areas that 'bleduc' mentioned: Working with vector fills Making multiple copies using The Replicate Tool -
Is that likely to remain the case for the foreseeable future, Miguel? In two decades of development, plugin capability in PhotoPlus never progressed beyond support for filter ('effects') plugins.

Dots per inch or pixels per inch is irrelevant for the web. Computer screens only know about pixel dimensions, not inches.

Serif have made it very clear that we won't be able to open PagePlus documents in Affinity Publisher, so we'll have to make do with publishing as PDF in order to get our PP docs into the new app. The beta version of the program is due for release either late this year or early next. I'm another user who is looking forward to seeing the Windows version of Affinity Photo, but it won't be released until after the Windows version of Affinity Designer has come out.

If your target print size is 6" × 4", then your original 2200px × 1920px image is the wrong aspect ratio, so you need to crop it (e.g. to 2190px × 1460px) to correct that. As Simon says, the DPI value (300 or 250, or whatever) dictates the maximum printed size for acceptable quality, but for my example you wouldn't resize the cropped version down to 1800 × 1200 for a 6" × 4" print: you would simply print it at 365 dpi.

I thought as much, Darin! Since my question was essentially rhetorical, I guess I should have phrased it as such. Thanks for the further details. :)

Very nice. Is that straight from the camera, or did you tweak it in Affinity Photo? If the latter, what adjustments did you make?

Camera raw list
Alfred replied to Carld's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I'm guessing that you're using CHDK. Since the Serif Labs and Apple (Core Image RAW) lists both include the SX50 HS and SX60 HS models, I would think there's a good chance that hacked SX40 HS raw images will look OK in Affinity Photo. Have you tried it? -

Photo or Designer
Alfred replied to Martin03's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Those two are the obvious commercial choices, but there are open source alternatives such as Scribus. -
Thanks, Miguel. The Perspective Tool and the Blend Tool are two DrawPlus features that I would particularly have liked to see in CraftArtist. I hope that both of these will soon find their way into Affinity Designer.

Searching that topic for 'perspective' only turns up discussions about the 'power duplicate' feature and vanishing points, not about the introduction of an actual Perspective Tool. By the way, could someone please tweak the CSS for these forums? In the search box at the top of each page, the light grey text on a slightly lighter grey background is almost impossible to read.

If the building in front is completely opaque and the buildings in the background are only partly opaque, then the building in front will be shown completely and the buildings in the background will be shown only partly, but I suspect that isn't quite what you meant! Applying a blend mode will mean that overlapping pixels will be blended together, so you won't ever get only the building in front shown in the intersections. If you apply the 'Screen' blend mode to each building, or only to the one in front, then you will see part of each building (as if both are semi-opaque) where they overlap.

Good News for Fontlab Users
Alfred replied to A_B_C's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
I've just posted to the 'Affinity to FontLab' thread to report that I get the same weird shape if I import Andrea's EPS file into High-Logic FontCreator. -
Brush shapes
Alfred replied to AmpedAndy's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I don't have Chrome here, but in a Chromium browser such as Vivaldi I can right-click on the video and choose 'View frame source'. That opens a new browser tab where I see view-source:https://player.vimeo.com/video/107567054 in the address bar, and a clickable link to near the top of the source code. Clicking the link takes me to the Vimeo page for the specified video, and removing the 'view-source:' from the address bar gives me an embedded player (filling the browser window). -
affinity designer Ohhh, My Strawberry Monkey
Alfred replied to My Strawberry Monkey's topic in Share your work
Great stuff, Allan! You might like to note that 'learnt' (like 'leapt' and 'spelt') is peculiar to British English; I think 'learned' would travel better. :)
