  1. It sounds as though you should be able to achieve your goal with a simple bit of masking, but what do you mean by “splash of”? It would probably be helpful if you could post examples of the image and the run of text that you’re working with.

Please also let us know which Affinity app(s) you have.

Can you explain this requirement for having a layer selected? – How do you select a tool to create a new object in an empty document?
Edit: especially in APub, as in Lenettes screenshot?

Good point! I was thinking about the tools in general, including those that are used to alter selected layers/objects, rather than the object creation tools in particular.

I mentioned this same 'request' in a post once and I may (??) have officially asked for it. Memory fails...

There’s no need to rely on your memory! The ‘See their activity’ button on your profile page invokes a list of all your posts:

Alternatively, use the search box on any forum page to search ‘Everywhere’ for posts on the topic, and then use the ‘More search options’ button to access the ‘Search By Author’ text box:

  4. Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @Cheshire. :)

If you use the Rectangle Tool to create a rectangle of a suitable size and position it on top of the photo, you should see controls (both on the shape itself and on the Context Toolbar while the shape is selected) for adjusting the roundness of the corners. The photo is very slightly rotated, with the top left-hand corner lower than the top right-hand corner, so you’ll also need to rotate either the rectangle or the photo before cropping. Once the rounded rectangle is exactly covering the photo, go to the Layers panel and drag the rectangle layer onto the thumbnail of the photo layer.

By the way (not that it matters in this particular instance) in general it’s a good idea to state which Affinity app you’re using.

  5. Firstly, A4 is 210 mm × 297 mm, not 210 mm × 296 mm: the short side of A5 is 148 mm instead of 148.5 mm because half millimetres in the A series are discarded when you progress from one size to the next size down. Secondly, the 3 mm bleed is there precisely(!) because trimming is never going to be accurate to the nearest millimetre; likewise, a consumer-grade printer’s paper feed isn’t guaranteed to give you exactly the same margins from one sheet of paper to the next, even if you ignore the effects of temperature and humidity on the dimensions and smoothness of each sheet.

As far as I know it is only provided with RAW images or RAW image layers, not with JPG/TIFF/PNG.

That aligns with what Chris wrote here:

In the Develop Persona, you will notice that the Temperature uses Kelvin and if you develop the image (as a Pixel layer) and return, the Temperature then uses % as opposed to K.

    No, stayed the same.

I'm not sure how to attract attention to this topic, I would add the freezing exports when WebP is chosen as export format (already on this forum, different thread)

Unfortunately we are at Version 2.0 by now, but some (all?) of the UI-bugs mentioned in my post are still present; it looks like the Export Module got new file formats (WebP) but everything else remained untouched.

I always forget about the freezing issue, head over to the Export Persona (instead of using "my" workaround via Sketch) — sigh…

    Any update on this topic?

There is much room for improvement at the Export Persona...

This thread is in the ‘Feedback for the Affinity V1 Products [ARCHIVE]’ section of the forums. A new V2 thread is more likely to attract attention.

It's this drag and hold or the Windows shortcuts with "hold down the left and right mouse button" that are the most strenuous hand manoeuvres I've experienced. And therefore obvious to improve for the benefit of all customers. They shouldn't be so strenuous.

For some of us it’s not merely strenuous. On my Windows laptop the LMB and RMB switches are covered by a single strip of hard plastic, so it’s impossible to press both at the same time.

This is still happening but the bug has gotten worse - I can't change any of the shape properties that bring up the mini calculator, whether I've already drawn a shape or not. There is no way to draw anything but the default shapes.

If you’re selecting the shape with the Move Tool, switch to one of the Shape Tools and try again.

I think that the problem is that I did not overlap them enough in order for the software to figure out that there was an overlap

I agree. Looking at that distinctive cloud formation, I’d say there’s probably an overlap of only 10% or so. While you might not need as much as 30%, anything less than 20% or 25% is unlikely to work for images with so much sea and sky. The shift in the horizon is also likely to work against you.

Is there a way to download 2.1 and try it again?

If you’re using the MAS version and you don’t have a Time Machine (or similar) backup, I think you’re out of luck. If you’re using the Affinity Store version, you can download the DMG file via the relevant link on one of the following pages:

    https://store.serif.com/update/macos/designer/2

    https://store.serif.com/update/macos/photo/2

  12. Please see:

Here’s the relevant portion of the text on the above web page:

    Quote

These truetype fonts have letters taken from RAF, RCN and RCAF airplanes, but they are limited in two respects---all fonts have the name "New", and all glyphs are hidden in the Private Use Area, and thus not easily accessible to the amateur user.

In other words, there are no glyphs mapped to the standard alphanumeric characters, so you’re seeing a fallback font (probably Arial rather than Helvetica). Instead of typing your text you would need to use the Glyph Browser.
