  1. How do I do a cat spewing rainbows?

Why am I not surprised? :P

Try the “coffee time” one. I don’t think you can avoid a bit of drawing, but it’s just an outline cup and saucer, a brown ellipse for the coffee, a cat’s head (another ellipse!) and a duplicate of the front of the cup to cover the lower part of the cat’s face.

No what, Josie? Are you saying you don’t think the first one is straightforward? The box is just straight lines and the rest is simple curves.

If you don’t want to draw anything, try the last one. All you need is a black cat (great for Friday the 13th!) and a Santa hat and some fairy lights, plus a little bit of added glow.

The first one should be pretty straightforward. If you’re looking for a suitable font to use, Yikes! is completely free.

It’s coming along nicely! It looks better when I hide the beige mouth/nose shape, but I don’t think the mouth should be grey.

Not a typical rainbow, but I guess you wanted to keep the purple/red theme going. Looking good so far!

I don’t draw either, but tracing around the edges of a set of rectangles is much harder than drawing them, and the same is even more true for the wiggly version!

Why are you talking about tracing it? When you asked for some guidance about the rainbow part, I described how to draw it yourself.

Try the straight one first. You can always make it wavy later on (by converting the rectangle to curves and then adding smooth nodes and moving them) once you’ve figured out the main part.

As with all of these things, to make it look as though the rainbow stripes are coming out of the cat’s mouth, you’ll need to put a second copy of the nose on top.

If you make a series of overlapping rectangles, decreasing in width and height as you go from red and orange through to violet, you’ll get this:6B2E8D5E-C727-432E-8560-77C0326C5609.jpeg.392a99082ae10272a8068aed0290734c.jpeg

If you keep the height unchanged and only decrease the width, you’ll get this:1D92B94A-036D-42F6-B8DA-0788EC7DEEFF.jpeg.7c60f9e913dadd51a9133094c50fb0ae.jpeg

What’s the problem, Josie? The second one in particular is all very simple shapes, with a ‘rainbow’ that isn’t even a bow (i.e. an arc).

If you mean “on top” as in closer to the front visually, use the Layers Studio. To put them higher up the meowtain, use the Transform Studio.

Front view = face and front legs/paws

      Rear half = tail end

If it were me, I wouldn’t do a separate drawing for each cat. As I said, start with one drawing — or two, if you want rear views as well as front views — and duplicate it/them, and then tweak the duplicates to make them a little bit different than the originals (changing the colour, making the paws or tail go in another direction, etc). Use the Pen Tool for the original drawing and use the Node Tool to tweak the curves.

Aren’t you going to share your finished ‘latte cat’ before you move on to something else?

Anyway, a ‘meowtain’ is just a pile of cats layered on top of one another. Draw a front view for most of them and a rear half for a few of them, duplicate as many times as required and then tweak the shapes and colours so they’re all slightly different.

That’s looking very good! As discussed previously, I think the mouth and node would look better if you converted the sharp nodes to smooth nodes, but that’s a minor quibble.

The pale pink tongue is hardly visible against the light brown background. Perhaps you could darken it a little and/or apply a thin black stroke to give it more definition. Speaking of thin black strokes, you can use the pressure profile in the Stroke Studio to make the whiskers thinner at one end: drag the right-hand end of the graph all the way down (or almost all the way down if you don’t want a sharp point).

There’s no point in my “reinventing the wheel” when there’s a whole set of official tutorial videos out there! Here’s Andy Capstick demonstrating how to use the Pen Tool in Affinity Designer on iPad:

  17. Keeping this out of the Forum ...

Macecraft made Jv16 powertools.. They  got tired of developing and it floated for a while. Then he came back with a crowd funding scheme that collected the money up front. They never reached the goals

However he did resurrect the product and start working on it again. If you contributed $10 o more you received a license for the software. They are not a dishonest bunt BTW. If you want to read it, it is further down this page
