  1. I'm trying to print a document and while setting up the options wanted to cancel the print dialog to go back and fix an issue on the document. But the cancel button does nothing(other than flash as if I had pressed it), the only way I can get rid of the dialog is to quit Publisher and restart. Even if I close the document and reopen it it reopens with the print dialog! Surely the cancel button should just close the dialog regardless of what might be going on with its settings? I've tried changing printers, I've tried changing profiles, The only button on the top bar is the green expand button, which works but doesn't help close the dialog. Printing might work but my printer has run out of ink so won't actually print! I had this happen earlier in the day but then, if I printed something, the cancel button would work OK. But now I can't print I have no way to cancel the dialog. Any ideas? Mac mini M1 MacOS 14.1, 16GB RAM Canon ix6550 A3 Photo printer Publisher 2.3.0
  2. OK, I've solved it! I was completely misunderstanding how the stroke & fill panel worked. It turns out you have to select the option you want and set its stroke colour. So in my case, I had to first explicitly set the whole table to "no colour" then set the inside horizontals to my chosen colour. That worked perfectly (once I removed some changes I'd made to the non-master pages which overruled the master!). Thinking about it, this is different to what I'm used to but is, in fact, more powerful because you can set different parts of the table to use different coloured borders without having to select individual cells or columns etc. PS. I found this out by looking at the Version 1 tutorial video on tables. There isn't a version 2 tables video yet... PPS. I just saw Garry's video after I posted this, which confirms what I said above. Many thanks for your time and help Garry.
  3. Thanks for the rapid response. I am formatting on the master page. However, I have discovered that to select the border style options I need to actually select the cells of the table, it's not enough to simply select the table object. Doing that, I now see the "glow" on the selected option and can change it. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to affect the actual output though, I'm still getting all borders drawn! And when I go back into the table panel the option has reverted to "outside". In other words my choice doesn't "stick"... The preview button works great, thanks for that, I'd never even noticed it before! I'll try to get a set of screen grabs to illustrate what I'm seeing.
  4. I'm trying to create an appointment calendar for a bit of holiday fun. I've created a table on the master page for the dates. I select the table and go into the table options tab and in the "Stroke and Fill" section try to select "inside horizontal" lines. But the selection does not show up (I assume it should be a lighter colour as in the alignment panels). When I print I still have all table lines showing which looks ugly. So I have 2 questions: 1) How can I select an option and have the chosen option show on the panel on screen? (And also take effect on the output obviously!) 2) Can I get rid of the blue guidelines on the page layout(temporarily) to see which lines will be printed - ie a true WYSIWYG view?
  5. Any update on when this will be fixed? It's still happening in Publisher v2.3 as of Dec 25th(yes, I am working on xmas day 😞 It's really tedious having to retype the same information over and over! Just tried typing the data into LibreOffice Calc and copy/pasting from there. It works! So I have a workaround of sorts...
  6. Nik 6.1 update fixes problems with Affinity 2.1. I've tried it with ColorEfex, Viveza and Silver Efex. All work perfectly with Affinity Photo 2.1 Feel free to upgrade folks! 🙂
  7. EDIT: That should say <Nik Application>->Quit not Affinity->Quit. Apologies.
  8. Just some added notes. I notice the other comments mention Affinity locking or crashing but I haven't had that issue. I quit the plugin(via the red top-bar button or the Affinity->Quit menu item) and it goes back to Affinity which carries on working as usual.
  9. "Scanning" with a digital camera is an order of magnitude faster than using a film scanner. I have the Plustek 8200 and use it for colour negatives because the software does the inversion/demasking but it takes much longer than using my digital camera which I use for my medium format films and for B&W negs. You need to set it up on a tripod (or better a copy stand, but few have them these days!) and have a decent negative holder but several cheap(<$100) options exist and once set up you can easily manage a strip of 6 negatives in around a minute or a full film in less than 15 minutes(allowing time for changing strips). And if the camera is a hi res modern one you get higher pixel counts too. The Plustek is better for the very highest quality but speedy it is not.
  10. The new update breaks the Nik collection plugins. They no longer have a save option to go back to Affinity, you have to save the image as an external file. This is ironic because Nik v6 has just introduced an integrated installation procedure that auto-detects Affinity Photo. It worked perfectly with 2.0 but with 2.1 no good. I'm on a MacOS 15 M1 Mac mini. I haven't tried reinstalling Nik 6 yet(my next step) I'll update if that fixes things, but it really shouldn't be necessary! EDIT: I reinstalled Nik but it made no difference. No Save/Cancel just "Save preset". Does anyone know how to roll-back an Affinity "upgrade" to the previous version? EDIT2: I rolled Nik 6 back to version 5. It works with Affinity 2.1 The usual Cancel/Brush/Apply buttons show up. So it only seems to be an issue between Affinity 2.1 and Nik v6 (I just reinstalled Nik 6 and it still doesn't work.) Since it seems to be Nik 6 specific I'll post an issue on the Nik forum too and see if anyone there has a workaround. EDIT3: I found the original Affinity 2.0 dmg file so have reinstalled that and Nik6 is working happily again. Since there was nothing in update 2.1 that I really needed I'll work with this until I hear that there is a solution.
  11. I have the same problem with Luminar Neo. It worked perectly on my old windows box but since I moved to M1 Mac mini the plugin won't start. But other plugins work OK(eg nik collection) so I'm guessing its a Luminar issue.
  12. The new v3 Nik collection is supposed to support this (via an enhanced use of Tiff file features) but it only works with Lightroom. Possibly a dot release from either DxO or affinity will support their use there, but for now you have to start over with a fresh layer or add to existing edits.
  13. I agree there is little incentive for Affinity users to upgrade unless you really need the perspective plugin(which must be run as a standalone tool). Most of the new features don't even work properly with DxO's own Photolab software (although they do have a free update that recognizes PersectiveEfex). This is an Adobe only release. Maybe a dot release will fix it later, but whether that needs to be from Affinity or DxO I'm not sure. As to the price, everyone gets the reduced price to start with, its going to rise to £70 soon(if not already). The tools are great but if you have 2.5 there's nothing much of note in v3 for Affinity users.
  14. You can work around it by exporting a tiff then running the perspective plugin as a standalone app, loading and editing the tiff, saving it and then reloading the tiff in Affinity. A faff but it works.
  15. Personally I always duplicate a layer before using the dodge/burn brushes because they are destructive to their layer. Mostly they are all I need for simple work and for anything more complex I use Viveza from the Nik collection which is probably the ultimate in dodge/burn toolkits. Very occasionally I do a colour burn to emphasize a local piece of colour. If using the dodge/burn brushes be sure you are working on a pixel layer, otherwise you will simply darken or lighten a mask and make no difference to the image - I've been caught out by that a few times! Also be sure to play with the opacity and flow settings and make sure you are using the correct luminosity setting(highlights/mids/shadows).
  16. It is very disappointing. It works exactly as per v2.5 but the new perspective plugin (which does much more than just fix perspective) doesn't work natively with Affinity. You need to export a tiff, then run the plugin standalone, save the tiff then open it in Affinity. Too much faff. Also the new "non destructive" editing via "enhanced" tiff files is not available from Affinity (nor from DxO Photolab so far as I can see! Which is even more strange) but unless you really need the Perspective Efex plugin there is nothing to make an affinity user upgrade from 2.5 IMHO. If you do splash out the new plugin uses an entirely different UI from the others (which weren't exactly consistent anyway!) but is very powerful for fixing perspective, sorting edge distortion on wide angle shots, defishing fisheye images and (if you really must!) toy-town selective focus effects. But the much heralded "intregration" with Affinity seems to have been ditched after one release. Very poor show.
  17. I used to get this but there is an app/plugin available for free on the Windows store that enables this feature. It uses the ffmpeg opensource library to enable display of many, not just Olympus, raw formats in the regular file browser. It works for me within Infinity provided I switch the view to medium icons or bigger. This used to me my biggest bugbear with Affinity but now its perfect.(At lest until we get a proper media management persona!)
  18. Excellent, I'll try that. it should suffice for my needs. Although I'm still curious how Dave managed to create a full panel control for his macros! Thanks.
  19. I recently downloaded some Affinity macros (Dave's Zone system) which include a pop-up control panel for several of the macros. I can record simple macros using standard menu commands but I can find no way to create panels etc. How did the macro author achieve this? I'd like to add that to a couple of my own macros, rather than having 6 nearly identical versions of the same macro just using different values.
  20. I think I just answered my own question. Previously the plugins generated a separate tiff file, now they actually send the edited image back into Affinity with no extra files cluttering things up. Maybe they did that before but I don't think so.
  21. Both DxO and Affinity are boasting about the compatibility between the new Nik 2.5 plugins and Affinity 1.8. But I've been using the nik collection as plugins since Affinity 1.6, both the Google free version and the DxO v2 upgrade that I bought last year. I cannot see anything different? They seem to work exactly the same in v1.8 as they did before. Neither web site seems to carry any details other than a statement that they are now compatible. What is all the hype about?
  22. I bought Affinity Publisher just because it is occasionally helpful, but mainly to support Serif/Affinity as they continue to develop their products. However, I wish to add my voice to the cry for support for book publishing - both in paper and eBook(although Calibre can handle PDF->eBook so that's a secondary wish). But footnotes(and endnotes), bibliography with references etc is vital. For now, I'm using MS Word - and a decent Word importer would be a step forward! - or an ancient version of FrameMaker (v6), which was the best book publishing tool ever until Adobe got their hands on it and wrecked it! What I really would like is to use Word (or LibreOffice) for content creation then import it into Publisher for presentation. At present, I can do my cover in Publisher but everything internal has to be done in Word (or imported into FrameMaker).
  23. Dominic, the reason for exporting as a GIF was just to see if I could get the file size down (my printer only accepts files <30MB in size). I eventually used a jpeg even though that resulted in a slightly fuzzy image. JonP, sorry the original file that was giving the problem has been modified so much and gone through two beta updates that I doubt it would help now. I just tried it again using the latest 1.7.0.376 beta and it looks like GIF export still locks up. Possibly as Dominic suggests GIF doesn't scale this big, but I feel the export should be able to check that and report an error or somesuch...I've attached the current afpub file. Poster.afpub
  24. I created an A1 poster with multiple images (.apub file size > 100MB) I tried to export it as a GIF and the export box just sat there for over 30 minutes and no file appeared. Doing the same with PNG format or PDF works as expected, only GIF seems to hang. Default settings for all cases. Windows 10. Publisher version 1.7.0.293.
