Aleksandr Novakov got a reaction from affinityfan in Can't add nodes to curves with the pen tool
In the previous versions of Designer it was possible to add nodes on curves on the fly while drawing with the pen tool, by pressing ctrl and hence temporarly converting the pen tool to the nodes tool.
Currently (1.9) pressing ctrl while drawing curves with the pen tool temporarly activates the nodes tool but with the function to delete portions (small X icon close to the cursor), even if in the bottom bar it says that clicking one should be able to add nodes.
Please go back to the previous behaviour, thanks.

    Hey!! Anyone hearing?
This is still an issue on Windows after a lot of updates already.
A simple option would be to assign [ctrl+shift+click on a curve] either for deleting it or to add a node on it and leave [ctrl+click on a curve] for the other operation.
Come on, I don't think it's so difficult to get such a behaviour. Please!

    +1.
I've spend quite some time today trying to get Ctrl to access the node tool from the pen tool without success. I guess I should have searched the bugs forum earlier. Note the issue applies to both Designer and Publisher 19.1.979

Yup, also made a post for the same problem, but even after 3 updates they didn't fix it. I think it's because they mainly develop for Mac and basically only port on Windows. Please, take care of us mortal Windows users too. we are probably the majority of Affinity users anyway! 🙏

Previously when working with the Pen Tool you could hold Ctrl to temporarily switch to Node Tool, while in this form of Node Tool you could click over any part of an existing path to add a new node on that part of the path. Now in version 1.9, when you are in Pen Tool and hold Ctrl to change to Node Tool; is no longer possible to add nodes like in previous versions since the temporary Node Tool deletes the segment, which is a new behavior of the Node Tool. I'd like to a way to go to the previous behavior please.

I fully agree. Please restore the previous behavior of this tool, as it is very frustrating to use at the moment.

ok, thanks for your answer! I just bought Affinity Designer more because I like the potential it has... But not having features likes that makes it unusable in working-production. Maybe you should add something like that before adding other new cool features ;)

It would be very useful to have functions to select the same:

Color fill stroke (color / width) Appearance To quickly select all your outlines, or background element in 1 color.
    Speed is everything.  :)

Apparently some tools are related to the CAD world, but I am convinced that for a good creative work in graphic design the possibility of precision in drawing are an added value !!!
For Affinity it could be a distinctive value.

In my product design activity I use fusion 360 of Autodesk ... the 2D sketch work is much more productive than Adobe Illustrator and I would like to find some of its peculiarities on Affinity Design !!!

Agreed, JohaWeber. Besides, if precision wasnt needed, there would be no need to 'snap' to anything and we could just eyeball it all Psenda suggests. Luckilly I have found a work around - it is possible to snap to tangents using regular (manual) drawing techniques. It's a few extra steps, but at lest it can be done. For those of you interested, check out this video I found - I can mimic the technique in Affinity Designer using the snap to centre and intersections, and drawing a circle using the right mouse button to define the diameter. For now at least, I can work around this.

I do feel that Affinity designer should be introducting more advanced snapping and drawing functionality to set itself apart from Illustrator and prove its a more professional tool, hence why I posted this in the feature requests part of the forum.

I'm an absolute precision fanatic. And I would expect this from a programm which even lets me zoom into my artwork by 125000000% to be absolute precise. And I would expect it even more if this is a software which lets me use geometric shapes for artwork construction (where "construction" is a better term than "creation"). A software that is based on computations for everything (isn't that the nature of computer programs/software?) should give me absolute precision in my work if I need it...

1+ for @Aammppaa for requesting snap to tangents.

    Hi everybody,
just copy the object (Cmd-C) and then choose Edit > Paste Style (Shift-Cmd-V). Another option: Right click on the object, select Create sytle … from the context menu and choose the created style from the style panel (perfect for multiple uses). Simple as that.
Works with object properties, but not with text properties at the moment. But hopefully this will come in the future ...
    Cheers,
    Alex
