When I was asking if it REALLY was 'currently' being worked on this was MEBs reaction: This was posted by @MEB two (!!) months ago. That's 4 scrum sprints of 2 weeks each to solve this nasty issue that so many people experience problems with for YEARS!! I do. They just don't do ANYTHING to fix this and obviously don't take customers serious or they just don't know how to solve this themselves and keep adding more features instead, leaving this bug lying around, just because that's more fun to program. Otherwise I can't think of any reason why this incredibly important basic functionality of a VECTOR program still doesn't work after so many years. This is the bare basic of a vector program.

No, the spelling check doesn't work either. It shows no text in the spelling window. I have the exact same settings as I have on my other systems related to spell check. I wrote down the exact steps to install and configure spelling check on affinity products and did the exact same steps on this new computer. So I'm a little lost on what could be differen on this new system. All affinity versions and library-versions are the same. No problem

Working with all three Affinity desktop products on PC I don't have problems with spell check on different pc's. But today I'm using Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher on a new PC with the same settings in these programs as other systems, but for some reason the spell check wavy lines don't show up when typing something wrong. I installed the dutch library the exact same way as on the other programs and in the menu the spelle checker is turned on. Even set the paragraph style to the dutch language to make sure I'm using some language. Typed something wrong to test, but still don't see the red wavy lines appear. I tested this on both Designer and Publisher now, but without any luck. Anybody has a clue on what I might be missing here?

Just a bump on thisone, as this could be such an easy fix for such a big UI problem I bump into each day now for last weeks. Please improve this part of the UI so we can crop by dragging the edge, instead of those very small (and never scaling) lines (as handles). Thanks!

Uh... when you see a fish, and somebody calls that a cow, I bet you than say he's not mistaken at all, only the sounds coming from his mouth need some adjustment in frequencies. 'Wording that needs some improving'? hahaha So you get that speeding ticket from a policeman and you turn down your window and say: I wasn't driving too fast, just my cars speed and the maximum allowed speed alignment could be improved. Thanks @dutchshader, great to know for sure now the C stands for Glossy finish. So I obviously need that one for regular (shiny) stickers. Would be great if somebody knows the answer to the other questions about the color I have now... please see my previous post Would be greatly appreciated as I don't know much about press/print standards

Thanks for your quick response @Mark Oehlschlager and @MikeW . The print webshop is asking for color PMS 806 (no mentioning of 'U' or 'C') in their specsheet. But I find more/different PMS 806's in Affinity's swatches; like for example a 'PANTONE 806 U' and a 'PANTONE 806 C'. They are not having the same LAB color-values. What 806 do you think the print-shop needs? And what do the U and C stand for Alright I understand now U stands for Uncoated and C for coated... although not really sure what coated really stands for in materials? Is coated perhaps glossy paper? I always thought the nice thing with pantone was that they always (should) look the same? You directly point me to Pantone+ Solid Coated-V2, so that's perhaps the library I need? How do you know that? I don't know anything about Pantone, but it seems like there are different libraries for different surfaces/materials. How do I know which library I need for a certain job? Is there an easy way to understand when to use which library for which product or is this Solid Coated-V2 pretty standard for print/press of stickers so you point me directly in that direction? Also, in the sheet of the 'print' webshop there is a screenshot of illustrator's colorsliders in CMYK (on spot) pointing (for PMS 806) to 0% cyan, 85.05% magenta and 0% yellow (and 0% black). But when I chose 806 C from 'Pantone+ Solid Coated-V2' in Designer (in a CMYK document), and look at the CMYK values I see different values: 2% cyan, 84% magenta and 0% yellow (0% black)... (the document I created has type 'Print (press ready)', CMYK/8 and U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2. Not sure why my CMYK values are different than the Illustrator-values in the example in their sheet... A sticker print shop asks for a layer with a certain PMS color to define the sticker cutout with a shape of that color. Looking in the colortools I can't find PMS colors. Does anybody here know if it's possible in Designer to enter an (exact) PMS color? Thanks in advance!

Pick a circle from the toolbox and draw it on the 'canvas'. After that you can select the text tool, put the textcursor on the circle-shape and start typing. From there on you can use the things you watched in the text-on-spline, or whatever name the tutorialvideo has, again. I'd suggest you to follow the more basic tutorials too/first, as drawing a shape or curve is pretty basic stuff you need to know first in order to learn a vector tool like Designer. You just have to add a curve to shape the text-curve. You don't need to have the curve itself having a border nor a fill. This way you can do exactly what you're after.

Did you try placing different artboards on top of each other? So in fact you treat an artboard as a layer. I believe that should do exactly what you're after: in the design mode you see all artboards on top of eachother to design, and in the export persona they are different 'layers' to export. Not ideal, but maybe it helps for now?

Same here. Never had any performance-problems with neither of the three software programs of Affinity on Windows and from 1.6.4 to 1.7.3. Always running smooth, no matter what (big) file I'm working on and on different systems. Even with just standard 8GB of ram and with or without nvidea card.

It might be me, but what's your complaint here? Is it only you cannot have your symbols being shown as a list? And that's causing 'all the others' to not switch to Affinity? Or am I missing something here?

I hope with 'currently' you really mean 'at this very moment'. Because this is being asked so many times and for such a long time (meaning years) I started to think this mayor issue for a vector drawing program was never going to get fixed. Hopefully the issue @Jaakko is writing about; the unnecessary anchor points (on pretty weird locations on curves too), will be fixed with this as well. That would be really fantastic!!! Looking forward to this fix!!! BTW Nice to see so much fixes and updates are being done after the time Publisher was released. That's great!

Sorry @Sean P, I forgot to rename the 1.0 to reset stuff, but recorded a video on the pc where the issue happens and it shows the issue pretty clearly. I'm gonna try your suggestion later to look if that 'fixes' it, but here's the video to give some more information. As you can see I create a totally new file and add a new document palette and even then it's having the issue. In the video you can see: The first time renaming works After adding another swatch and changing the color of it, renaming fails After adding a new swatch sometimes that new swatch is not shown The swatches panel always refresh when switching tabs (but as above; sometimes that's the only time the swatches list get refreshed!) Before I had an issue that the swatches list isn't refreshed after deleting a swatch even, but I'm not sure what order I did my operations back than, so that's another refresh-issue, but couldn't replicate it now swatchesproblem.mp4

Yes, I'm using a document palette on a file created in 1.7.2. When I'm at home here it's working too with the exact same Designer version. But when working on my pc at work, using the same Designer version, but on Windows 10 Pro (at home I use Windows 10 home), the issue is there and renaming is NEVER updating the swatches.

After renaming a swatch the swatch-name isn't updated in the list. Also after removing swatches the list doesn't refresh (so still shows the old swatches, eventhough they are deleted). The only way to update the panel is to switch to another tab in a combined panel and than back to the swatches panel.

Sorry, I can't send this file. Next to this; I also tried reproducing these problems in a new file and it was crashing on that file too. But I couldn't figure out exactly when it is crashing, because it felt pretty random. At the point when I was about to upload that file to this issue thread 'suddenly' that file wasn't crashing anymore for some reason. So I decided not to upload that file. But it seems like there are some situations where it crashes almost instantly in the other file; mostly it happened when being zoomed in and after setting the pin to a characterposition in the text. The UI freezes after that when doing a save, or zoom out of whatever, so probably it was already crashed before that last action. So my guess is it crashes after setting the pin to a characterposition or in combination with the action that follows after that, while being zoomed in. Maybe a strange question, but is there a way I can un-corrupt a file? Or perhaps recreate a new file and paste these designs in or something like that to create a fresh filestructure without perhaps a corrupted thing in it? Sorry I can't help you with the file. If I can reproduce the issue in a new file and understand a little better when it happens I'll let you know. I'll keep an eye on it.

Working a lot with Photo, Designer and Publisher I can't remember it crashed, so that must have been a long time ago. But today I'm working with pinned textframes and it crashes a lot. In say half an hour I already had 5 crashes when working with this pinning. [edit] It's crashing for example... if I move an object closer to it's pinned location. Than suddenly the software just hangs and can only be killed via task manager if I (use mousewheel to) zoom out after setting the pin If I save the file (with ctrl+s) after setting the pin <<<< THIS IS HAPPING A LOOOOOOT AND SEEMS TO ALWAYS CRASH THE SOFTWARE It might also have to do that the pinlocation is inside a textframe spanning over multiple pages
