Uncle Mez reacted to Ash in 2.3 New features and improvements list
    Hi All,
Below is the list of all new feature and improvements which are included in the 2.3 beta (bug fix list is available here).
To learn more about these features please click on the link to go to each feature's dedicated post. To give feedback or report bugs against any of these features please reply to that same post (also check out bug reporting and feedback tips).
    • Move Data Entry improvements
    • New tags panel for adding Alt Text to images and objects
    • Spiral Tool
    • Ability to change Asset Panel background colour
    • Fields now available in Find and Replace
    • Pixel grid added
    • "Keep selected" preference now available in Pencil Tool
    • Create and place password protected PDFs
I should say in general we are now aiming to do slightly smaller updates more regularly than before so we can test and release in smaller chunks. This will allow us to get improvements and fixes out quicker, as well as having overall benefit to the stability of the apps.
The beta phase will now be shorter (4-6 weeks) for any update, and for that reason we will be avoiding any significant changes to functionality during beta as we focus on fixing bugs and correcting unintentional behaviour. This does mean that more of your improvement suggestions may need to wait until a future update (e.g. like some of the Move Data Entry suggestions you made during 2.2 beta which have now been added to 2.3), but please keep those suggestions coming!
    Getting the 2.3 beta
If you have not enrolled into the beta program yet and would like to take part, you can do so here. This will immediately give you access to the latest 2.3 beta builds to try for yourself.
If you are already enrolled in the beta program you have two options:
    1. If you still have the 2.2 beta installed, you can now run up those beta versions and you will be prompted to update them to the 2.3 beta.
    2. If you have uninstalled the 2.2 beta, you will need to go back to Your Account -> Downloads and product keys and find your previous order for the Affinity Beta Software Program, and you can download the 2.3 beta from there.
    Thanks,
    Ash

    Hi All,
We're pleased to let you know that we have just pushed another update to the 2.2 beta (2.2.0.1986) which we consider to be a possible release candidate. This does not include any new functionality, but does have many fixes - most of which are listed in Patrick's post here.
    Thanks,

Uncle Mez got a reaction from Imonobor in Smooth tool or Simplify path in affinity ?
    Hello Everyone/admins/staffs.
i was wondering about this precise thing: is there a way to simplify path or have kind of what the smooth tool on Ai does ?
i mean, a design is always better when we have less node used for the drawing.
as i said, maybe it's there and i just don't see it or maybe there is another way to do it with other tools or functions and here too i may not be aware of it.
Your lights and inputs will be of great help here.
    Thanks

Uncle Mez reacted to Ash in 2.2 Beta Build 3 (1931)
    Hi All,
We have just begun rolling out a new beta build - version number 2.2.0.1931 - which should become available to you on auto-update over the next hour
Three new features are included in this build:
Object creation data entry Move tool data entry OCIO v2 support added And some other feature improvements which are worth drawing your attention to:
Find and Replace now includes the additional scope options of 'Section" and 'Page' 'Hide Effects" and "Greyscale' view mode options are now available as optional toolbar buttons. Additionally these view modes (as well as all other Designer view mode options previously only available in Designer) have now been added to Publisher. You can now both insert anchors and link to them from data merge fields. There are also a lot of fixes which have gone in since the last build which will be listed on the bug fix list post .
    Important: PDF Password feature
While this build does include many fixes for PDF password, we have decided to drop this feature from 2.2. The feature is still available in this build, but will be removed in the next one. For that reason we're going to hide the feature thread and ask that no more reports are made on this feature.
Apologies if this causes some disappointment, but we feel we need a little more time to solve some of the problems being reported. We certainly anticipate this will be available again at the start of the 2.3 beta and that it can make the 2.3 release.
    Thanks,
    Ash

Uncle Mez got a reaction from Peter Panino in export in .ico format
    Hello team and Everyone !
It's been a while since I wrote something here.
well without going to far, I with suggestion for the afinity suite to start exporting in .ico format
yes Affinity is good at vector design etc. but what people create is not only for regular works, i mean a person who design icons (that click on like 1000 of time in a day) is ... a Designer.
I recently had a client asking me for an icon and did it, he was okay with the work but then asked me for the .ico file and i realized i couldn't export from afdesigner straight to .ico format, yes i've find a way to convert from .png to .ico but i'd be super cool if the app i use could do this straight.
just imagine if i was working offline (so no way to do online conversion) but still had to deliver an ico file on a usb drive for my client ?
Well, adding that format in the output/export list would be super cool
    Blessings to All !

    Hi,
My affinity designer is shutting down automatically after updating to latest version. It happens every 5 mins, tried enabling / disabling openCL, Uninstalled / reinstalled, but nothing helps. I work for a company and it's causing me loss due to this. I've also updated my windows, graphics driver etc. Attached latest crash report.

    Please provide a solution.

Our software runs in user mode so cannot directly cause a BSOD. Only kernel-mode applications (i.e. drivers) are capable of that. There is likely a driver issue on the system such as an out of date one or perhaps a conflict somewhere. I'm not sure if you have any utilities that can run a scan and check for any of these potential issues but it may be worth looking at.
Try updating your GPU drivers (even better, uninstall and re-install them) and see if that helps, then check for any peripheral drivers such as gaming mice, keyboards. If you can, find out what the polling rate is for the mouse. Anything above 1000 polling rate can cause poor performance (we're currently looking into this).

Uncle Mez got a reaction from PaoloT in Bulk/Mass typing software
    Hello everyone
    Hello Teams
Well, want to ask if there is a plan for a software/app that will empower studios to grow on stuffs like book editing etc.
I mean, the tandem of inCopy + inDesign (plus photoshop and illustrator) is quite very attractive and interresting.
I mean, having a, app that would be the very place where people do bulk/mass typing then all get centralised in Publisher then graphics and illustrations to come from photo and Designer; this level of collab would be great and help small business to scale while staying focus on one main suite instead of mixing and also people with typing skills could get daily or weekly for real and no more like Word/Wordpad > Publisher
somethiong that really enables bigger possibilities.
just me thinking too much maybe but, one more time it would be super great.
    Blessings

This is something that I've been asking before. My opinion is that the best way would be an interface to import/export markdown, very easy to teach to collaborators, and open to many types of contribution and possible without any dedicated app (any text editor would suffice).
My preferred dialect would be Pandoc, a very powerful variant of markdown that can be easily converted from a plethora or different formats.

Uncle Mez got a reaction from Intuos5 in OCR and Character Recognition: Affinity Publisher
    Hello Team !
i believe Affinity Publisher would do better job and be even competitive if you had a possibility to do OCR or Characters recognition on loaded PDF or scanned documents.
in fact Publisher should be pair correctly with scanners and have Pro level scan functionalities to allow more Pro to converge or convert to it.
There is a capture software called snagit who does that job so why not Publisher ?
    Hope this helps !

Uncle Mez got a reaction from Frozen Death Knight in Support of OBJ format or Blender as plugin [AfDesigner and AfPhoto]
    Hello eveyrone
    Hello Support

First of all thank and congrats for the release of V2, it is really refreshing and life changing.
But as of now, my only request for Affinity products (mostly AfPhoto and AfDesigner) would be to see OBJ file supported or Blender as plugin to the product, i mean create a new product from the ground to do 3D when one of the most popular software can be used (if possible)
for me (and only me) it is not because illustrator does some 3D that Affinity have to absolutely be the same, so a possibility for teaming Blender + Affinity would be great.
I don't know if it is doable but it would be great move that will expand the possibilities far higher than if you had to build one software or a set of tools and function from the ground.
    Thanks

Uncle Mez got a reaction from Ricardo A. in Gradient Mesh
Hello @IsabelAracama well personaly i'm a big fan of gradient and the way they can make a composition even dreamy or simply good enough but never get my hand to it with Adobe products, it was frustrating but then came Affinity where i actually got to the point of gradient and how to create them and the color theory thing.
That was a bit of story ... Now ! that new tool is just great and very useful when we consider it is always a nightmare to create and abstract background (we're not all Mozart nor Pablo Picasso )
i suggest Affinity to come up with something even better, why would you ask?
Simply because i perceive a bit of Styles thing we have in ADesigner mixed with the already existing Ai Mesh tool.
To me Serif need to bring a real Nec-PLus-Ultra : Free Gradient, Blend/interpolate Tool, Shape builder and keep improving the snapping in the products we use.
Reall it's pure merveille to work with APub for printing projects (i've done few personal things and they just made young peoples go crazy around me) but keep making the product even professional.
in the same time, Chapeau to Adobe for the way they improve their interface and it's whole actions (flipping menus ... they also got inspired by Serif for iPad for this and simply ported it to desktop ...  ... my joke to world).
    Well ... let's improve !

You know you can just import SVG, so vectors, in the Fusion tab and do anything you like with it right? It's by no means perfect and Fusion is by far not ideal for making animations (there are lots of other way better tools for that), but it's not time consuming and done in just 2 minutes.

Sounds the command "Convert to Curves" has the keyboard shortcut Shift+Return assigned. Open tha app preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts > Layer > … and check if there is a shortcut at "Convert to Curves".
It appears to be possible to assign Shift+Return, though Affinity warns me with a yellow triangle + tooltip info. If it exists in your preferences then remove the shortcut with a click on the circle x icon.

Please share if you succeeded with this so can learn and apply.
in case of 100% then it would be a great functionality to add.

Patrick, I appreciate the response and the later assurances that things are being worked on behind the scenes.  That's a relief for me.
As to others on here, you know they release updates for all three products at the same time.  So, if they're working on a mega update it won't be released until it's ready for the entire suite of apps.  I think they collected a lot of information from all past beta waves and rather than releasing incremental packages I'm guessing they are doubling down on fixing as many issues as they can before the next release.

I love the product,  can't wait to see what they do with it.
