No way to import file with layers
kirk23 replied to kirk23's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on macOS threads
I work with 16 bit files usually. Just tried 8 bit psd and it imports ok. So yes, looks like the problem with 16 bit files. Tried to import 16 bit file into current Design beta on Windows and it works just fine there -
Neither psd or tiff. Any files with layers comes as a weird barcode

Patch tool is somehow already better than Photoshop one, still it lacks a thing. Would be extremely helpful if before applying it would allow to mesh deform the patch, not only scaling and rotating . Maybe with a very simple mesh. It would allow to match patching in fragment more precisely. One more thing,. please do the patch release less sensitive . I guess it's a reason why patch tool doesn't work with tablet pen at all . Once I do a final click it consider it a new patch instead of applying previous. The patch tool is actually a one of the reasons why I bought Affinity Photo having active Photoshop subscription. Too bad it's hardly usable due to this weird glitch.

I work for gamedev. So when I need to export slices from a master file I need them to follow power of 2 scale rule. Not only specific h or w . Please do it the way we could set exact size in both dimensions.

I am working fin gamedev where output images all have to be power of 2 sized. So when I do slices in a master image I need them to be power of two. Please, just add an option to set both size, not only W or H

Please borrow "name" tags system from Xara for both Designer and Photo. It's way superior to color coded layers in Photoshop or Mari In short it's a way to tag each object with multiple tags and then being able to quickly sort /select objects by specific tag or several specific tags. With tags being inherited while making an object copy . With such tags it would be possible to recreate Photoshop "compositions" for example. By some dialog where we could select a tag and switch all other tags off temporally. Plus an ability to link transforms for objects with specific tag. Change transparency etc. Would be nice if it would be working through embedded documents. So if I switched to see only specific tag it would works not only in host document but in embedded ones too. Such tag system would eliminate main disadvantage of layering approach to image editing . A typical mess of layers where nobody able to find something after a while.

A one that would recreate same inpainting on other layer. For example, one layer represent color texture and another one - normal map. I can do inpainting on "color " layer but once I try to do same inpainting on "normal map" layer that normal map would never match the color map. That inpainting looks like cloning part of the image to selected area from random source points. Could it be possible if on next layer we could do same source pattern? Maybe as a part of macro recording/playback?

Export persona: exact slice dimensions
kirk23 replied to Lojza's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on macOS threads
Is it possible to specify both dimensions to fit a slice into specific size? -
Could you please make it works a way, we could play-back brush strokes with other brushes. For example a brush stroke with one set of nozzles is recorded. Then, on next layer, I could playback same stroke but with other paired set of nozzles representing normal map or material roughness or whatever other image channel being perfectly matching the original stroke on original layer.

Center for rotation and scale
kirk23 replied to Tupaia's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
An ability to scale of a specified center is one of most missing features imo. In fact I have never felt any necessity to rotate around specified center , only scale. You can do so it in Photoshop, Xara, Fusion, Photoline and in every 3d soft ever existed. So I guess it's not something patent restricted or secret know how . -
Graphic User Interface Affinity
kirk23 replied to Snooman's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
I would prefer they'd focus on missing features rather than UI. And how the customisation could be a disadvantage? It just should be organised in a kind of layers. Simple things first. Ideally with further ability to deconstruct the whole soft to base elements and rebuild it back for a specific task. And I hate all those modern interfaces innovations. They are mostly just some crazy person inventions who believes for some uncertain reason it's better than before. While in fact are just new hoops I have to skip through giving absolutely nothing to my work experience or my competitive advantage as a workforce. Still I have to waste my time to learn it. Ones I see a cool interface I instantly know, there would be no actual innovations to dig behind. -
multi Add a Lighter/Brighter UI-mode (implemented)
kirk23 replied to DeepShader's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Imo the whole dark UI was born just because of those super bright, over 300cd/cm2 monitors for people who never try to calibrate their monitors. Since the first thing every color profile calibration software would suggest you is to get your monitor back to normal 120cd/cm2 providing true actual black color values and true 2,2 gamma, you no more able to tolerate anything darker than PhotoshopCC light gray theme. I vote for brighter UI option too, just extend those sliders a bit more -
Use of DirectX12 and OpenCL
kirk23 replied to JesusSheep's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
I am also wondering since in games modern videocards do pretty much same kind of calculations for huge amount of pixels on the fly. And in typical image editing software just a couple of "live" effects make the soft almost unresponsive. Pretty simple ones comparing to "live" calculations in game shaders. -
With extra feature of making linear for only selected nodes. I need same kind of profile editor for inner/outer glow and shadows since I never do fake bevels/3d, I do actual depth map based bevels with grayscale variation. Photoshop has both of those features for example. For a faked 3d would be nice to have such kind of effect in a normal/derivative (XY axis only) map colors being rotation and flipping aware. I know I could do so as a big stack of channel mixing layers already but simple single layer effect would be nice. ps. just found a kind of workaround for glow > outline/contour > gradient editor. Still I believe Photoshop way with editing exact curve/profile is much more convenient than gradient approach for depth related things.

It's so relieving to try the soft on a normal powerful calculating beast. Not on a toy. Except of a few random hangs, still pretty frequent to be honest, everything works just ok on my end. Huge resolution 16 bit images work like a charm The only problem I still need features to actually use it for work . Specifically: 1.ability to link layer transforms independently from groups like in Photoshop 2. rotation center working as scale center like in Photoshop.
-
A kind of non destructive masks and fills that instead of a simple image have an expression and links based live calculated result . Done on GPU preferably. For example, a mask that is LayerA minus LayerB and then high pass/frequency separated and levels adjusted. So in fact it would be a separate stack of hidden layers and affect. It's actually possible in Photoshop already with help of clipping groups, linked smart objects and layer links. But imo a simple expression would be much more elegant solution instead of a huge stacks of symbols or layer clone copies. Would we have such expression based things it would rival node based approach, which imo not that convenient at all and have a lot of its own drawbacks. I understand that it could quickly turn the soft into hardly working slow mess but still would be a revolution in image editing.

Linked layers is my most missed feature. An ability to link layer/object transforms independently, between certain layers/objects placed within separate, different groups. I love Affinity, love it's swiftness with big 16 bit images, and I tried to do my work within Affinity products only but always find myself going back to Photoshop since I just can't do certain things in Affinity. To bad but Affinity still stays no more than a cool toy for me. It looks so close to be just perfect. ps. One more thing is ability to use rotation centre for scaling too like in Photoshop

Pattern overlay inside effects panel
kirk23 replied to evtonic3's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
+1 for pattern overlay also please: 1. make rotate option for pattern , not only scale like in Photoshop 2. make transform links/lock for different patterns on different layers whenever they are placed. 3. make one click switch that turns a layer into a pattern over blank layer. 4. make feather edges slider a part of pattern style. -
Something like auto-blend in Photoshop, only not by masking but rather matching colours of layers so they fuse into each other perfectly. More like panorama image stitching/matching that would work with selected layers in a document

I am in need of proper DAM application. Still have my Lightroom CC coming together with Photoshop subscription even not downloaded/ installed. So definitely hope Affinity one will be not a Lightroom clone.
