Difficult to solve without seeing the document. My guess: Look at panel Paragraph and the value for margin after paragraph.

Tried this and have no crash. Could you post a sample document?

It's worth noting certain filetypes won't provide much of a filesize reduction when linked (Affinity files, pdfs)
You mean any kind of document and Affinity files. So here we are back to the suggestion to place them as-is without the option to edit.

Never noticed the discussions here to be rude or negative (mostly). Of course with a mixed audience there are different opinions what one expects from a software. The needs for those working in an advertising agency may differ from the needs of those who want to make sometimes a flyer for a sports club (no rating here). BUT if someone has an idea should bring some valid arguments for a suggestion, maybe others will be persuaded that it is indeed a good suggestion. I am confident, that the mods and devs are watching our discussions mindfully and have their own discussions if the suggestion is worth to implement. So everything fine here on my side, got a thick fur (german saying) over the years.

Intended? A bug? Arrange text frame and table panel side by side. Create a text frame and change the vertical alignment e.g. to bottom. You will see, that the vertical alignment for table changes also to bottom. Works vice versa. Could be irritating?

Have a look at Decorations in the Paragraph panel. Maybe not exactly what you are looking for. Or create a 1-cell-table.

Why do you need Acrobat for a print-ready document? Export your layout in Publisher with the press-ready setting for PDF. I still need Acrobat Pro for special cases or making forms. Other options are Foxit Phantom or all the other PDF programmes that are not just PDF readers.
-
No problem for me with the file you posted. The one in the video seems to be a more complex document. Last idea: Hide all non-text layers or hope the next versions will be optimized for speed.

The files (.apub and .pdf) posted here that partially loads would be handy.

But normally I get PDF documents to incorporate into layouts and not EPS files. :-/
Print PDF to file e.g. with Ghostscript printer driver and place the file. Same result as placing the EPS. But anyway an extra step to take.
-
Made some tests and the results won't help you, but are interesting.
When you place an EPS file, the file is still editable, but fonts are converted into curves, even when the font is installed on your machine. This comes close to what you wanted initially. Is PDFLib used for importing the EPS? If yes, why is there a different handling of fonts?

My question is now: Is (or will there be) there an option to convert all text to curves when placing a PDF document in AP?
I doubt this, but what I do know? I guess this would make the documents overly complex. I am waiting for a passthrough placing of document files like PDF, EPS etc. without the edit option.

Cool. Never moved or scaled this panel before. More or less I use the same placement of panels like in ID.

Did you try turning off the justification?
Turning off spell-check or justification etc. pp. can only be workarounds in the beta period. How should I estimate the text flow, when justification is turned off, but is necessary for the final outcome? I hope the final version of Publisher gets a bit / lot faster. In ID you have the option to increase / decrease screen rendering quality whereas Publisher is always crisp and clear (I like that), maybe one factor for sometimes being laggy?

sent out to those who signed up for the Publisher beta program
Maybe language barriers, maybe I am too old and silly ... so having an order date and an order number for Publisher Beta is evidently not the same as signing up for the Publisher beta programme?

No mail for me, bought Designer and Photo back in March 2018, so I should be on the list? I cannot recall if unsubscribed from communications in the past. But nevermind, will buy at any price.

I started to feel that this product would encourage people to hit the print button for physical printing and as I operate under a green label I am at this time unable to endorse or support an indirect practice of land clearing for plantation trees needed to support people’s desire to publish.
I have major environmental concerns which is why I support digital media only.
It is always a good move to care for our environment - so thumbs up and no intention to belittle you, but I fear electricity you are getting from your wall socket to publish digital is generated somewhere? I don't have any statistics at hand, but I have the feeling, that the land clearing is mostly used for feeding animals to produce cheap meat? And as Walt said, you can create digital media with Publisher too.

? Select the image and export with Area Selection with or without Background. But why do you want to export an image as an image?
-
Same for me, same in .371. The context bar does not seem to update the current font formatting. You can workaround with de-selecting the text frame and selecting the text frame again.
-
Change the DPI from 300 to 72 and insert the text again.

me too
Me too, but no problem. But frankly I doubt, that all bugs will be eliminated in three weeks. There are some edges to be worked on to deliver a solid competitor to ID or QXP (if this is the focus). I am quite happy so far with the Betas, good work, so take your time.

A bug? Maybe covered elsewhere? My document has 100+ pages and e.g. I am working on page 72, save and close. When I re-open the document always page 1 is displayed, but on the Pages panel page 72 is highlighted / marked. It would be nice if the latest position could be saved along with the document.

Do I Need Acrobat?
in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop

You do not need Acrobat for creating PDF from Publisher. The Affinity Software uses PDFlib library. And yes you can export PDF for your print shop. There are a variety of export settings that should meet the demands of your print shop. Just try it.
