Another, if you use the Serif Labs RAW engine rather than the Apple engine: Develop to a RAW embedded or linked layer, rather than a pixel layer. Accept the current state of the RAW image and return to the Photo Persona. Toggle the Command Controller on, and then return to the Develop Persona.

Good suggestion, however it’s again just a workaround around a missing feature.

You can set those from the Home Screen, before Opening the file.

    True, thanks for the tip!

The Command Controller should handle that, shouldn't it?

Yes it should. However there is no way to activate it within the develop persona as the document menu is not available there… That seems to be an oversight by the developers. The Assistent settings for example aren’t available either.

My problem is that I am opening a RAW file from the main menu by importing it from photos. Thus, the document menu is only available to me after I’ve developed the image. I found a workaround however: Open a new empty document and activate the command controller in there. After that, it is available in the develop persona in any newly opened RAW file as well.

  3. Hi,

I’m trying to pick a white balance area in the develop persona within Affinity Photo on the iPad. When using an external keyboard, the shortcuts SHIFT (for selecting an average out of several points) and ALT (for selecting a rectangular area) work as expected. However, there is no way to use these modifier keys without an external keyboard.

Either the modifier shortcut via 2/3/4 fingers is missing here (it works when drawing shapes on the canvas in the general persona) or the modifier keys “wheel” as present in Affinity Designer should be available.

This is a rather annoying bug/missing feature for developing RAW images on the iPad as I use it on every photo to get an average white balance. Or maybe I’m missing something obvious here..

    Cheers, Chris

We have now added this functionality in the latest build if you want to give it a go...

Firs of all, thank you for implementing this feature! It's a great step in the right direction. However, I found several problems with it:

1.) When selecting a new crop after using the "straighten" tool, the rotation gets reset (this seems to only occur sometimes, not reliably reproducible):

2.) The "straighten" tool only allows the crop area size to be decreased, not increased (as I would expect it):

3)There is quite a big margin at the edges, the crop area is not as big as it could/should be. This seems to be proportional to the rotation angle; the bigger the rotation the bigger the margin towards the image boundary (the result is the same when either rotating the crop area or using the straighten tool):

    4) The rotation sometimes gets randomly reset while working with the crop tool (might be the same issue as (1), not reliably reproducible):

And then I have three more feature requests related to this new functionality (in order of importance to me personally):

    5) I would like to see the "straighten" too to remain selected until manual deselection in order to continuously fine-tune the rotation. Right now it automatically gets deselected after a single operation. I often times start with a rough straightening and then zoom into the image to refine the rotation with the straighten tool. When I forget to select the straighten tool again I accidentally resize the crop area instead. This happens to me quite often, maybe I'm not alone.

    6) This is a related feature-request that would tremendously improve the crop tool: I'd love it if the crop area could snap to the edges of a rotated photo. Right now it is very hard to crop a rotated photo exactly keeping as many pixels as possible.

    7) Maybe (for a future update) include the option to automatically fill in missing areas after a crop, just like the panorama tool offers?

    Cheers, Chris

  5. Thanks for the drag anywhere function. I would like the area of the “corner drag” to be made a little bigger though. With the new function it’s rather hard to get the cursor to switch to the corner resize tool as you still have to precisely click on the corner. That’s different from dragging the sides where you can now drag anywhere. I often find myself dragging just one side when I wanted to drag the corner. Is that understandable?

    • Crop to selection. If you have a pixel selection active the crop tool will now initiate to be a min fit around the selection you have.

I would love if this also applied to straightening photos within the crop tool. I would like an option for the crop tool to automatically adjust to the picture while straightening it - just like in Apple Photos. Right now it is extremely difficult to exactly match the borders of a straightened picture with the crop tool.

  7. This is quite annoying and I haven't found a setting to turn it off:

When I scroll through any of the panels because they are too large for my screen, I accidentally modify a ton of things, because every menu can be modified just by hovering over them and turning the mouse wheel. This prohibits smoothly scrolling through the panel and changes things I don't want changed without me noticing right away. At least add an option to turn this off please!

  8. Hi,

the first "simple mode" screen to acquire an image from a scanner doesn't seem to be adapted to the dark mode. One cannot see the text on the buttons:

Upon clicking on the button that should say "more details" (the second button from the right), the following screen is correctly displayed:

The same problem exists when trying to acquire an image from within Affinity Publishers's Photo persona.

  9. Hi,

I'm trying to export App Icons with Affinity Designer using a lot of slices. In order for them to be automatically recognized within Xcode, they need to be named using the tilde symbol, for example "app-icon@2x~iPad". Unfortunately, the exported files are simply missing the symbol (in my example the file created was named "app-icon@2xiPad").

Am I missing something or is this a bug?

    Thanks for your replies!

    Chris

  10. Hi team,

I noticed a few glitches in the develop persona in the latest beta (Beta 8):

    1.)

-Open a RAW image and crop it in the develop persona

-Take the white balance picker and draw a rectangle (alt+drag)

= The rectangle gets drawn in the wrong position, but I believe the reference for white balance gets taken from the correct position)

    2.)

    -Open JPG image

-crop the picture in the photo persona

    -go into develop persona

-use white balance picker as before (alt+drag)

    =Same problem as 1

    3.)

This one's a little bit harder to reproduce:

-open RAW image in develop persona

-click on any slider (example: brightness) and move it to the side

-quickly release the slider and click somewhere above or below it and drag

=The slider still moves as if one hadn't let go

I hope you can reproduce and fix these little glitches, especially #3 is annoying when you're moving sliders around very quickly.

    Regards

    Chris

  11. Hi Affinity team,

I just noticed that it is practically impossible to move items between subgroups in the assets panel. After creating a new subgroup, the first item may be moved, but after that no further changes are possible. If needed, I can send you a screencast of the problem.

While we are at it, why can't I reorder my assets? I would've thought that one could simply reorder them like layers in the layers panel.

    Regards

    Chris

  12. Hi Affinity-Team!

I just found a quite significant bug: The move tool doesn't move the selected object. It is a very weird behavior: After snapping to the edge of the document, the object snapped right back to its original position. Also, there was a weird artifact where my cursor was while clicking and holding.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to replicate it after restarting the application... I attached a screencast of the bug.

    Regards,

    Chris

  13. Thanks for your replies!

Well, I must've been mistaken concerning the 8bit/16bit matter, just double checked. Sorry!

I was trying to avoid just that: processing each file individually beforehand. But I guess for now there's no other way.

[...] I still wonder if it´s not quiet easy to just further the image after stitching it, into the RAW persona

I agree with MBd here: Feeding the file to the develop persona right after stitching instead of instantly "developing" it would help a lot! That would be exactly what I was looking for. I hope, the team considers this as a future improvement!

  14. Hi,

I just tried stitching a panorama with a very wide range of exposure and while Affinity Photo did a very good job adjusting the individual exposures, unfortunately it decided to crank up the exposure on the whole panorama, making it impossible to regain detail in the bright parts after the final panorama rendering. I used RAW images as source.

Is there a way to change the exposure or even adjust curves within the panorama persona? It is pretty limiting to have it export as an 8 bit jpg with blown-out highlights..

    Regards,

    Chris

  15. Hi,

scopes are available in Affinity Photo, just click on view-studio-scopes. There is just one thing missing: the skin-color-line in the vectorscope. The parades in CMYK-mode are the same as in RGB. Affinity seems to convert the document to RGB for display in the scopes.

    Hope I could help!

    Chris

  16. Well you could use the menu item "open in Affinity Photo". It would take the whole document and open it with Affinity Photo. Then you could make adjustments to your raster layer and switch back afterwards.

By using this method, all your changes would be saved within your document and be editable in Affinity Designer after the fact (live-filters, for example).

Adobe automatically flattens the raster layer before switching back to Illustrator, I think. The "Affinity-way" would actually be "better" in that way.

Of course this method wouldn't "isolate" the raster layer, but show the whole document, so that's a downside.
