Dan C got a reaction from William Overington in Will Affinity version 1 Designer and/or Photo export 32 bit PNG with transparency please?
Hi @William Overington,
I can confirm that 24 bit PNG files with transparency aren't possible to create in Affinity, and I believe this is also true in most other applications.
A 24bit PNG image supports 3 colour channels, consisting of 8bits each - Red, Green & Blue (R,G,B).
The 4th channel that a PNG can support is the Alpha channel (A), which is required for exporting a PNG with transparency present. This creates a 32bit PNG image with R,G,B,A channels.
Therefore to create a 24bit PNG image with transparency present, you would have only 2 colour channels maximum in the file, ie R,G,A or G,B,A etc.
I hope this clears things up!

Dan C reacted to Eugene Leeman in Upgrading from Affinity Photo v1 to v2
Looks like updating the graphics driver did the trick.
I can now open an existing file (picture) to edit it or create a new one.
Same for Publisher.
So back in business for Affinity Photo and Publisher (v1 that is). This is what I was looking for.
Grateful for your excellent feedback and assistance ! Top.

Dan C reacted to VectorWhiz in David Lynch vector portrait
Vector portrait of movie director, actor, visual artist and musician David Lynch. All 12 stages of progress in my portfolio blog: https://communicats.blogspot.com/2024/01/david-lynch-vector-portrait.html
In aforementioned blog I briefly explained how the effects used have been created, but I will repeat them here for clarity:
In Affinity Designer there are what Serif calls 'Vector Brushes' that actually are based on bitmap images. So, this in fact is not a 100% vector portrait. Users can draw these brushes themselves in vector format, that are exported as png-files. For almost every 'vector' portrait, drawing specific brushes have to be created, since no hair strand or pore texture in a person's face are the same. To such brushes Gradient Fills and Gradient Transparency effects are applied and sometimes they are Duplicated using Filters (below the Layers panel) that in some cases are offset, re-sized, skewed or mesh warped a little. In a number of cases it helps to apply the 3D lighting effect - highlights and outer shadows - to these brushes too. In the Gradient Tool there is an option to use bitmaps as the fill, which also is useful to achieve the desired effect. To these type of fills the same effects can be applied as used to manipulate the Vector Brush strokes.

Dan C reacted to - S - in Win 11 - Controlled access folders
One option is to uninstall the MSIX/Microsoft Store versions of the Affinity apps and install the alternative EXE versions that Serif provide as well. Using the EXE versions will use predictable file paths to the Affinity executables (I.E. %ProgramFiles%\affinity\photo 2\photo.exe).
However, if you would prefer to continue using the MSIX/Microsoft Store versions of the Affinity apps, you could add the apps to the Controlled Folder Access allow list using PowerShell. By using PowerShell, it will allow you to use wildcards (*) in place of the version numbers in the file paths to the executables. See my previous post at the below link:

Dan C got a reaction from thomaso in Affinity Photo and Designer stopped working
I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you're asking here - it's no longer possible to sign up for a V1 Trial, or purchase a V1 license since we began selling V2.
If you previously purchased a V1 license or signed up for a V1 trial, the Affinity account on the Affinity Store will still provide the download link for the latest V1 version of the app that you purchased/trialed.
This will be the same download file as the links I've provided above, meaning the V1 versions from the Affinity Store can effectively be downloaded by anyone, regardless of your previous license/trial entitlements.
Once the V1 apps are installed, they'll then prompt for a product key / email address combination to be licensed, which again are only available if you previously purchased the apps.
If you haven't previously trialed the Affinity V1 apps, and don't have a license, I believe you will still be offered the original 10 day trial we provided with V1 apps, though after this time they will require a Product Key to continue use.
Due to GDPR regulations, the amount I'm able to confirm regarding a specific users licenses publicly here on the forums is limited, which is why we ask for users to email affinity@serif.com if they have any questions or issues with licensing.
@Illustrator Pascal I would expect that if the 1.10.6 apps were previously functioning for you, until updating to Sonoma, then you should be able to simply download and install 1.10.8 and you won't be prompted to relicense the apps after updating - but if you have any further questions or concerns about your licenses, please don't hesitate to email us at the above address

Dan C got a reaction from KateJay in Affinity programs and macOS 14 – Sonoma
Hi @KateJay,
Welcome to the Affinity Forums
I can confirm that Affinity V1 apps are compatible on macOS Sonoma, provided you are running the latest Affinity V1 macOS update - version 1.10.8
If you're unsure which version you're running currently, you can check this by opening the Affinity app and navigating to Affinity [Photo/Designer/Publisher] > About and the current version number will be shown.
If you need help updating your Affinity macOS V1 apps before updating to Sonoma, please don't hesitate to ask!

Dan C reacted to PaulEC in Unable to Customise Tools
It's been a while, but, for the sake of completion, I thought I should report that everything is now OK.
I tried a few things unsuccessfully, but decided I didn't want to have to reinstall everything unless I really had to. Then it occurred to me that I have virtually the same setup on an old laptop and checked that to see if the same problem was there as well. It wasn't! So, hoping for the best, I copied all the user files from there to my main PC and everything seemed OK. I gave it a couple of weeks and everything now seems fine. I have no idea what caused the problem in the first place, and I'm afraid that my solution will probably not help anyone else, unless they also have an identical setup on another PC!
Thanks again for the help.

Hi @GripsholmLion
Thanks for your report, I can confirm this occurs with Keyboard Navigation or Full Keyboard Access enabled. However it is working fine with these options are turned off.

Dan C reacted to MikeTO in Customise Toolbar issue - cannot drag tools to, or remove from, overflow
Yes, it's a limitation of the macOS toolbar customization feature, you can't customize overflowing icons. Affinity just happens to have a lot more icons than some programs but you can see this in any standard app such as Pages.
Remove tools further to the left (the status bar is a wide one so remove it) until you can see the right tools. Customize as you like and then add back the tools you had to remove so you could access the right tools.

Dan C got a reaction from Jungle Juice in Designer Question: Is it possible to hide Nodes or draw without keeping paths selected?
Hi blkmkt,
Welcome to the forums
Unfortunately this isn't currently possible in the Vector Persona of Affinity Designer, there's no option to hide all nodes or stop automatic selection of the last curve drawn, my apologies.
I'll move your thread to Feature Requests and Feedback for our devs to see and consider!

Dan C got a reaction from duon in Is it possible to find glyps automatically by selecting letter in text?
Unfortunately Affinity apps don't natively support this feature within the Glyph Browser, my apologies.
This has been requested previously on the Forums and is something our developers may consider adding to Affinity in a future update.
I'll be sure to add your 'vote' to this feature in our internal development log for you now.
I hope this helps

Hi @Hari_777,
Welcome to the Affinity Forums
Unfortunately these Forums are not for sharing AI created artwork, or discussions regarding AI prompts to create specific images.
The 'Share your work' section of the Forums are designed for sharing work specifically created within or using the Affinity apps.
When sharing work, we ask users to provide an explanation of the tools/workflows they used with the Affinity apps, so that other members can have a better idea of the possibilities of the Affinity apps functions - though this is not a strict requirement.
Therefore we must ask that you stop creating posts such as this one, as the Affinity Forums simply aren't the correct place for these discussions or images.
This specific thread was moved to the 'Questions' section of the forums by a different moderator, though the above remains true in either 'Share your Work' or 'Questions' here on the Affinity Forums.
I will be locking this thread from further replies - if you continue to post AI generated images, or threads requesting AI image prompts, we may be forced to restrict your Affinity Forum account from posting at all.
Many thanks for your understanding.

Dan C reacted to bbrother in Affinity Publisher — Picture frame bounding box not updated corectly when resized or moved with "lock children" enabled
Thank you.
@Dan C in the context of Problem 2, the question arises whether it is a good idea for each change to the photo frame attribute to be remembered (inherited by the newly created frame). This is what object styles should be for.
