Dan C got a reaction from Camerajockey in Olympus PEN-F RAWs (.ORF)
Hi @Mike Ray,
I can confirm that the Affinity Photo app is displaying the RAW camera data with very little post-processing applied.
When opening the RAW file in Olympus Workspace, this app will be selectively applying adjustments to the RAW file in line with the manufactures specifications. As this is the app that the manufactures of the camera provide, it has been written specifically to handle .ORF files and will likely produce the most similar results to the embedded JPEG that the camera processes when the RAW file is taken.
When opening the RAW file in IrfanView, this same embedded JPEG will be used to preview the file, not the RAW data itself so it cannot be used as a comparison to Affinity Photo.
As mentioned by firstdefence above, Luminar AI is applying AI adjustments to the RAW file which Affinity Photo does not currently support.
When opening the ORF file in Affinity Photo, we open a 'flat' representation of the RAW data with very little post processing applied. This allows you to further adjust and edit the image to your own tastes. Unfortunately we aren't provided the same insight into ORF files that Olympus themselves have (as it's their file format) so we cannot apply the same post processing to the RAW file that Olympus Workspace applies, my apologies.
Many users prefer the 'flatter' import of Affinity Photo, as this provides you with a more open starting point for your RAW file and allows you to be more creative whilst developing the image, however we do understand this is not to everyone's taste and I'll be sure to add a 'vote' to our internal improvement log for similar AI features found in Luminar.
I hope this helps

Thanks a lot for your help! I really do appreciate the time you gave me to resolve the issue I was having with the app. If I was happy with the suite, I'm happier now to receive such a wonderful experience. Besides, this community is amazing. I'm really glad to know there are people who are able to help. Hope I can give that back in the future.
Receive my gratitude everyone!

Dan C reacted to LeighK in Designer 2 deletes designs
Sorry it took so long to respond. I had orders to get completed. My answer to all of the questions are yes I have done those things. I did a cmd search of my drives & nothing there. So I deleted Onedrive & reinstalled it. That was my fix. I used Designer 2 only one time since then and no deletes. I really appreciate everyone jumping in to assist me. I hope I can help someone by finding the cause. Surely I'm not the only one. There have been so many updates it is almost impossible to know if that was what started the issue or not.
Thank you so much everyone! Y'all were fantastic!

Dan C reacted to Sean P in AD2.2.0 TSI / Color picking issue in pixel mode
Hi artnok,
We're aware of this issue and it is with development. It is a combination of having a vector object selected in conjunction with the Paint Brush Tool - it keeps trying to show the colour of the object's fill, rather than the picked colour. It does set the picked colour, as that is used when you then use the Paint Brush Tool, however the dialog then quickly updates to show the selected object's shape again.

Dan C got a reaction from AdrianW in How to pin Designer/Photo/Publisher to specific monitors in a Win10 multi monitor setup
Hi @AdrianW,
Welcome to the Affinity Forums
As I understand it, this is expected behaviour of the Affinity apps and currently there is no way to change this behaviour, my apologies.
However I will move this thread to the Feedback section of the Forums for our team to see and consider adding this option in a future update.
I hope this helps!

Dan C got a reaction from vincentlepes in Select all and invert pixel selection don't work properly when using artboards
Thanks for your report @vincentlepes, as above this is a known issue which is already logged with our development team.
I'll be sure to 'bump' this issue using your thread with our dev team now, to bring it to their attention once again and we hope to have this resolved in a future update.
Please note that the previous 'AFD-5459' report tag has since been updated internally and is now logged under 'AF-633'.
I hope this helps

Thanks for confirming the bugs.
That's correct the meaning of the 'overwrites' I meant.

Dan C got a reaction from charactersword in Alt-click on a new brush keeps your current brush width is not working
Hi @charactersword,
Thanks for your report!
I believe there are a few bugs you've identified in this post, so I have split my findings below:
Alt + Click on a new brush to keep your current brush width I can confirm that I've replicated this issue here on both macOS and Windows and is not related to any custom keyboard shortcuts, either set in 2.0.4, 2.1.1 or 2.2.0.
It simply appears this functionality has been broken in 2.2.0 and therefore I have logged this with our development team to be resolved ASAP.
Assigning Shift + number key in 2.1.1 does not assign new shortcuts when updating Equally, I have been able to replicate this behaviour here, when setting Shift + number key to a shortcut in 2.1.1, then updating to 2.2.0, the shortcuts for Brush Hardness etc are not set. You can resolve this by selecting 'Reset', however this will of course lose any custom keyboard shortcuts you have set.
I have logged this as a bug with our development team.
Updating to 2.2.0 with Shift + number key shortcut set overwrites shortcut set I'm not 100% of the exact meaning behind 'overwrites' in your post, however I have found the following behaviour:
In 2.1.1, set any keyboard shortcut to use Shift + number key Update to 2.2.0 Under Settings > Shortcuts the Shift + number key shortcut is still listed With any tool that is not a brush tool selected, use the assigned Shift + number key shortcut
⚠ The shortcut fails to function With a brush tool selected, use any Shift + number key shortcut
✔ The shortcut changes the brush flow as expected, but does not trigger the associated function set under Settings > Shortcuts. As I understand it, the Shift + number key shortcuts are now reserved for use by the Affinity app and therefore can no longer be used for custom shortcuts for other functionality. However, the user is not informed of this change in-app and the shortcuts appear to still be valid under Settings > Shortcuts.
Therefore, I have logged the following with our devs for this issue:
When updating, if we implement new reservation shortcuts that may have been previously assigned by the user, we should scan the users shortcuts and inform them if any will be lost due to the new changes. Any reservation shortcuts, such as Shift +1, should not be allowed under Settings > Shortcuts and should inform the user of the conflict. I hope this helps!

Dan C reacted to Hangman in Publisher: export to PDF is suddenly impossible
Hi @Uschi59 and welcome to the forums,
From your description, this sounds like a known bug reported in the 2.2 release... Does your file use the 'Euroscale Coated V2 'profile?
A Beta Patch, v2.2.1.2052 was released on Friday which will hopefully fix this issue for you so if you are part of the Beta program you could install this patch and try it to see if it resolves your export problem. The Beta software can be installed alongside the retail version and both can run together side by side.
If you're not yet enrolled in the Beta program and would like to join you can do so by clicking the link in @Ash's post here...
If you try this let us know how you get on and if it resolves the issue you are experiencing...
In the meantime, if you are happy to upload your Publisher file along with any Linked graphics we can take a look to make sure there is nothing else going on that could be causing the export issue.

Dan C got a reaction from Hangman in Some paths not printing
Thanks for confirming - I've updated the development log to include this info

Dan C reacted to Hangman in Some paths not printing
I ran a quick test copying the entire graphic to an earlier version of Designer using 'Copy as SVG'. Doing so copies all the 'Texture Line Style' curve layers as curve fill layers. All layers copy apart from the two with issues. When you attempt to copy those two layers individually, no layers are pasted.
Pressure also appears to have an impact... changing the pressure setting for the two lines in question fails the export when using the both default Pressure and Velocity settings but works when using either None or Velocity (Inverse) though I suspect that's just another variation of your tests where Flip Horizontal also works...

Dan C reacted to GarryP in Where is the warp tool? Affinity Designer v2.2.0
Being a bit picky, I think it was true, as written – i.e. “not available as a Tool” (the OP asked about a “tool in the toolbar”) – but I did forget to mention that the functionality was available via the Live Filter menu, which slipped my mind at the time, so thanks for pointing that out.
I’ve edited my earlier post to make that clearer in case anyone stopped reading at that point.

Dan C got a reaction from s5b in Where is the warp tool? Affinity Designer v2.2.0
Hi @s5b,
As Garry mentions, the Vector Warp functionality in Designer can be found under Layer > Warp - you can find out more about this functionality here:
Warping Objects
The above is not true however, as Affinity Designer version 2.1 added this functionality through the Pixel Persona, under Layer > New Live Filter Layer.
You can now find both Perspective & Mesh Warp Filter layers for warping Pixel content in Designer under this menu, which is covered further below:
Live Mesh Warp
I hope this helps

Dan C got a reaction from Lon in macOS doesn't recognize .afphoto as an image when sorting files
Hi @Lon,
Welcome to the Affinity Forums
To expand on the above, as the Affinity apps use a shared document format between Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher - although each app uses a different file extension (.afphoto, .afdesign & .afpub respectively) these are completely interchangeable - meaning you can open and Affinity document in any Affinity app, even if it doesn't 'match' it's namesake, or you can actually rename an '.afphoto' file to '.afdesign' and it would retain all of it's data and still be openable within any Affinity app.
For this reason we're unable to categorise the file format as an 'Image', as this would then also affect .afpub or .afdesign files that don't necessarily contain any images, and this would cause confusion for part of our userbase.
Therefore any of the Affinity file formats are simply sorted under 'Other'.
I hope this clears things up!

Dan C got a reaction from Return in A bug in gradient?
Hi @Gianni Becattini,
Thanks for your report!
I can confirm that I've replicated this behaviour here and have logged it with our team - as I can see the Midpoint control directly on the canvas is limited to 5% - 95% in order to avoid the controls overlapping and one becoming inaccessible.
I hope this helps

Dan C got a reaction from Return in Some paths not printing
As I understand it, an Open Curve will only display 1 node handle for the Start & End node and this is expected behaviour.
If the Start / End node is set to Smooth or Smart, then an opposing node handle will only be shown when moving the visible node handle and will not remain visible once the transform has been completed.
Therefore I don't believe that a node handle is 'missing' in the users file - as there are multiple actions that I have found that will fix the issue with the users curve in the file, that don't involve directly editing the node.
For example, simply using Flip Horizontal on the entire curve object then allows it to export, but using this command twice to return it to it's original position shows the issue return -
2023-10-09 11-16-45.mp4
I haven't seen this occur previously - converting/transforming the end node, editing the node handles or flipping the Curve allows the object to export, but I cannot see a clear cause for this in the file. Therefore I will be logging this with our dev team now, though in the meantime using any of the above options should resolve this for you.
I hope this helps

Great news! I've been using Designer without further issues. Thanks a lot (community) for your time and advise!!!
Now, how can we let other users know about the apps swapping to resolve similar issues? I think it would be nice to share this info for those who are struggling.
Finally, can you help me please to reinstall Photo and Publisher as we did with Designer? I think is a great idea to follow your recommendation (to avoid similar issues as you said). Thanks ☺️

As confirmed above, unfortunately this is not a bug, simply the Affinity apps do not support this feature at this time.
Therefore I will move this thread to the Feedback section of the Forums for our team to see and consider adding this in a future update.

Dan C reacted to BarryHu in No recent documents to open
I was encountering the same annoying issue. This solution I followee may or may not be as useful (or correct) for all MacOS! I'm running Ventura 13.6 on an iMac
I exited Pub 2, located mru.dat and renamed it mru.dat.old (just in case I needed to retrieve it) and then opened Pub2, loaded and then saved/closed a pub 2 document and exited Pub2 again. I did not try just closing the document.
Then I opened Pub2 for a second time, looked at "Open Recent" and the document list was no longer empty (only showing the last file though).
I then opened Pub2 App'n Support via the Library and found a new mru.dat file as well as the old, renamed one which I've now deleted.
Loading a document via Finder works also (it appears in the list immediately) so it seems to be irrelevant how the document is loaded into Pub2.
It seems there is no need to re-boot the machine. Hope this helps. Sorry about all the I's.
Next stop: sorting Photo2 & Designer2
