Designer is primarily a vector-based program, although it can do raster-based operations when you use the Pixel persona. Those tools are part of the Pixel persona, and to customize the tool bar that contains them you need to be in that persona before you start the customization.

O.M.G.  I can't believe how much time I spent looking for these.  Thank you Walt, after many hours of fruitless search I now see the selection tools after clicking the Pixel Persona button.  Sigh.

  2. In the Windows version, how do you click and drag to select part of a layer and copy it?  The only help I've found on this talks about features to do exactly this, that live on the Tools menu.  On the Windows version of AD, there is no Tools menu.  It doesn't appear when nothing's selected, it doesn't appear when you select a layer.  This is one of the differences I've described previously in the Mac and Windows versions that are not documented.  To wit, please see the "Creating pixel selections" in the help file that comes with the Windows version.  Also if you try and find the tools it references - Marquee Selection, Free Hand Selection Tool, etc - they do not exist when you go into Customize Tools... in the Windows version.

  3. I'm using the Windows version of AD.  I have a document onto which I have pasted an image I've copied from elsewhere.  I now would like to select the image (layer, object, whatever you want to call it now) and resize the document to the image.  I know how to manually resize the document, but I don't see how to have it automatically resize to the selected layer - is that possible?  Alternatively, I thought if I could see the size of the layer then I could manually change the size of the document.  Not as good, but would work.  However, since my image (layer) is larger than the document, the Transform window shows the image size as the same size as the document, versus it's real size, which includes the portion of it that extends outside the document boundaries.

    Thanks.

  4. Just starting out with Affinity and I've read through a number of similar topics on this problem but not seen an answer.  I'm interested in changing the size of the canvas (or I think Affinity maybe calls it a layer...not completely sure yet).  In short, I want to be able to size it in whole integer pixels, but whenever I change the Width, it changes the Height, and vice versa.  All of the aspect ratio topics I've found so far deal with managing it for some object you've placed in the layer, but not the layer itself.  Is there some setting that would allow me to do this?  I'm looking for my final image to be a very specific dimension.

    Thanks.
