Radial symmetry, &  mirror symmetry are 2 of the simplest symmetries. A professional level design program should allow design work in all 17 wall paper groups. Even free java applets (for example  2 versions of "Escher Sketch") on the internet can do this. And long ago plugins for photoshop (Terazzo & Kai's Power Tools) had a filter that allowed this with images, with a live preview. So although it sounds complicated good programmers do such things just for kicks. Later an overpriced, clunky plug in was made for A illustrator, that did this called "Symmetry Works". And now there is a consumer level app on ipad, for play purposes that also works with all the symmetry groups. (  http://science-to-touch.com/en/iOrnament.html  )  ( https://eschersket.ch/ and  http://levskaya.github.io/eschersketch/   and  http://skuld.bmsc.washington.edu/~merritt/bc530/local_copies/escher/ )
To make the program useful for whole other markets: textile designers, etc., this is an essential functionality. To differentiate Affinity designer from the rest of the pack, implementing this well, could easily  be another great step.

Please add to ADesigner something like the amazing Symmetry Tool from CorelDRAW (and Adobe illustrator), that allows to create all kinds of shapes and lines in a symmetrical pattern easley and instantly.
(In AD its only for "brushes" in the "pixel persona")

    Thanks.

I love the Affinity Software, but I find the panel sets a little challenging at times, because they all dock in on each other and sometimes it gets a little tricky to navigate the panels. The easiest way for me to work at the moment is to work with two monitors where I use one monitor only for panels, but I travel a lot and don't travel with two screens. So a way to make workspaces a little more flexible would be great.
Is there a way to make another column of panels that are collapsible as in Adobe? This feature really saves time and makes the workflows easier, because you can build muscle memory to the location of the tool sets.

Markcq reacted to R C-R in Is there any shortcut to zoom in or out?
In the Mac Affinity apps you can use CMD + spacebar to zoom in & out with the mouse pointer but you have to press the spacebar first for this to work.

If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel you can set it to zoom the display in Preferences > Tools. This is really useful because with this enabled you can zoom at the same time you do other things with the mouse pointer.

    Definitely +1.
I do a lot of geometric art and complex charts. I use the live paint tool in illustrator all the time. So now, whenever I need to create one of these I have to go back into Illustrator. I really would like to ditch Adobe and only use Affinity.

I think this not so intuitive. While Indesign has two options (manual and numerical) I often use the button 'fit content to frame' or 'fit frame to content'. So the UI offers more options for how you want to do the work.

We hope you enjoy the product, and as always, if you've got any problems installing or running up, please don't hesitate to post in this thread.
Any problems actually using this version please make a new topic in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Please feel free to leave general suggestions and comments in the Discussion Forum. Many thanks for your continued feedback.

How has one of the threads asking for this not been stickied yet? It's got to be one of the most requested things. It seems so absolutely core to the concept of a layout programme. I get that everyone thinks that about different features, but seriously, how can anyone not miss this?

A good grid system (like the one above) is absolutely necessary for professional layouts.

    Hi,
as an oldschool graphic designer all my Books, Magazins and Flyers start's with a intelligent grid thats give me the reference, that all sites/styles etc in the same manner and style. I always prefer a 12 column grid or a 9 column grid. Thats give me flexibility but also some borders for a consistent style. I'am so strange that I love to perfect the position of the columns without decimal points, so I have the posibility for a fast perfect position with coordinates. For example see the screenshot. Without this grid I also can use MS Word for a Layout (thats also can Handle grid in a Textbox, but this is not a flexible and fast way to work), so please add a column grid option.
Oh and if you use Quark 3.32 as a Basic reference would be awesome, I never worked so fast as with this Program thats all reduced to the basics.
    thanks

    Hi Markcq
    The fill mode applies to singular curve objects, not multiples. This is why you're seeing no difference when changing the fill mode currently. As can be seen in your first post;
    Filling self-intersecting shapes
Shapes which have been constructed using self-intersecting lines can be filled in two different ways.
I've created a quick video below showing this, I hope it helps clear things up!

Ok, so I finally found that I had to convert to curves or draw something with the pentool to activate the menu items.
But now, the two options look the same...

As long as you can not view the bleed, the app makes no sense to me.
My  hopes were that with Affinity Publisher the "showing bleeds" comes to all Affinity Products.
This is an essential function in my opinion!

Hi - major important feature would have to be bleed view, being able to work out how much bleed is on one edge to the other is important in large exhibition / packaging projects.
Also be nice to be able to set bleeds up when setting new doc / page all in one place.
