Arc & Spiral (print screen from Cinema4D)
    Arc :
    - draw a circle
    - make editable
    - (add points)
    - open shape
    - remove unwanted points

    Spiral :
    - launch Inkskape
    - draw a spiral
    - export in SVG
    - open and copy/paste in AD

If in any way possible, could the set of preordained tools be expanded with a spiral tool ?
    Thanks !!!!!!

Well, since everyone is listing their own list of most wanted features I will do it, but not before listing what I'm not interested in:
Knife Tool Mesh Fill Tool Auto tracing Spiral Tool DXF/DWG Import/Export CDR Import/Export Right-To-Left languages support Now, the ones I'd love to see implemented or improved:
Compass / Arc Tool Mesh Warp / Distort tool (with some considerations) Shape Builder Tool Select Same with added power, suggested by me Custom Shapes for Arrowheads Add Page capabilities for Affinity Designer (to work more like Fireworks used to) Freeform Gradients Multiple Effects / Fills / Strokes for Text Multiple Effects for Shapes Blob Tool Vector Eraser Tool Width Tool Pant Bucket Tool Vector Cropping Tool that truly crops Vector Shapes Optical kerning for badly designed Fonts Vector Patterns PSD Export with editable text Scripting/Extensibility Vector brushes with actual vectors Best regards!

Markcq reacted to Frozen Death Knight in Can we get a Spiral Shape Tool and a 3D Box Shape Tool?
I like the current Shape Tools in Affinity as of now, but two that I feel are missing from the toolbox are a Spiral Tool and a 3D Box Tool. Here's one example of a project where I needed a spiral in particular.

The design for this I did mostly all inside of Affinity, but I had to move over to Inkscape to get the spiral shape because I realized that I had to do this manually in Affinity to achieve the same thing. Seems like a pretty useful feature, especially if it also allows jagged spirals and custom shapes. That way one could make even more complex spiral shapes than just a regular spiral.
Another shape I would love to see is a 3D Box that can do perspective. I have been able to do this a bit by combining a bunch of shapes and masks to achieve a similar effect, but having a properly supported tool for this would be even better. Inskscape has a tool like this, so that's a good place to look for inspiration!

The Freeform gradient is a 100 times more useful than the tired old Mesh gradient. The mesh is complicated as hell to use and ends up just creating a jumbled mess of points and lines.
I mean just look at how much easier the points and lines are to work with in a freeform versus an old style mesh. This is the way this feature should be implemented, traditional mesh is outdated. I'm definitely no Adobe fan, but they really knocked it out of the park with this new feature. I will never use a mesh again (not that i do very often anway, but still)....
Freeform is what should be in AD, if there's working code that exists for the old style mesh, just throw it in the bin! haha!

First off, it's not due to ignorance that I posted the initial post. I've been working with and teaching design software since 1994.
My pet hate is floating panels — I will only float a panel if it's short term and something I don't want to dock, because I want to make a change and close it. It's like getting in your car every morning and all your pedals, knobs and buttons are in different locations. Floating panels are not effective and it slows down the design process, because you have to keep looking for things, plus it obscures your work. The panels do not collapse well, sometimes I try to collapse panels to give another panel more space and it doesn't do it, so I have to fiddle with the panels to try and get what I want and then the panel undocks, so I end up fiddling and losing the design workflow I was busy with.
I already have panels on both sides of the screen and that just takes up "real estate" that could have been used for the design. I actually feel that the Affinity panel setup on the iPad works better than on the desktop version.

Yes, I know this already. The panels can just get muddled up. I've been working with design software since 1994, starting with FreeHand and Illustrator. I never got panels mixed up. In Affinity the panel sets get a bit messy. Every time I need to go to a panel I need to search for it. It would be easier if it can be collapsable to an icon and I call up the panel when I need it.

You'll find that a non-destructive subtract works with your examples. A non-destructive boolean is performed by holding down opt/alt key when clicking the boolean button or picking the boolean command from a menu. Then you can use Convert To Curves command if you need the boolean operation to be destructive. I'm only suggesting this as a workaround until there's a fix - obviously, the destructive operation should just work. Maybe non-destructive booleans are using more reliable code from 1.7.x.

Yes, I’m aware of the fact that there is a crescent shape, but this is something that came up as I was showing someone what add, subtract, intersect, etc. does... and shapes as seen in the attached screenshots is not what is expected. This is the first time I noticed it, hence trying a few locations and positions...  not all positions produced that result, only some... it just seem a bit unstable and buggy.

It's available, depending on what you want. See the Collect function on the Resource Manager Help page that Wosven mentioned.
Also, there's a Preference for automatically updating changed files that are Linked.

Oh no! Quark is also bad! 🙈
At least Adobe gives you the option to collapse the panels to icons or you have the ability to doc panels into two or more columns. And if you have a set workspace then you develop muscle memory to the locations of the panel sets and your workflow is not hampered by looking for things.

I love the Affinity Software, but I find the panel sets a little challenging at times, because they all dock in on each other and sometimes it gets a little tricky to navigate the panels. The easiest way for me to work at the moment is to work with two monitors where I use one monitor only for panels, but I travel a lot and don't travel with two screens. So a way to make workspaces a little more flexible would be great.
Is there a way to make another column of panels that are collapsible as in Adobe? This feature really saves time and makes the workflows easier, because you can build muscle memory to the location of the tool sets.

Should be added soon! Also there is no "reveal in finder" in ressource manager to find assets manually. Yes, there is a path, but this is awfull slow to work with.

    Hi,
I feel very happy with Publisher, its a great program and as an Indesign User I don't have any problems to use it imminently :-)
I was trying my first professionell projects with and after finished I wanted to export everything for backup reasons.... I was a really shocked that a packaging feature is missing....I still can't believe it. Now I must do this manually??? Really?
Please understand, a package-feature is a MUST-have, otherwise I can't use Publisher for my daily work.
    Pllllllease!!!

    Many greetings,

I'd like a Spiral Tool that can create:
Linear spirals Non-linear spirals With some simple sliders for things like:
Number of tails Angle Radius Something like the Cog tool but for Spirals would be great.

no no no, thats overkill! and not-done in Indesign. I'm talking about all other colors except standard black. What if you have a color swatch 50% black, sometimes you want to knock it out and sometimes you want it to overprint. Making 2 swatches is way to much work, just select the object you want to overprint and set it to overprint in the attributes panel. That's the way it should go and not set per color swatch…
