  1. Thanks Anto - yeah I know if you look at my third post down. This isnt what im trying to do its more of a technique than the E on e.
  2. Thanks Walt - Like i said thats not is - If you read my original post thats not what i exactly said - Its states wanting to REVEAL parts or the E not delete parts or the red e. There is a technique that can be used to paint over a selected layer to reveal only parts of it. Its is fairly simple i just cant remeber how to do it.
  3. Thanks Walt - Thats not it as far as i can see, you are just deleting around the letter e so is not actualy REVEALING the black E through its just removing the red. Obviously if i zoom in on your pic i can see where you ave removed the red part of the e. The idea is to paint over the part of the E indicated using the brush tool and a mask which should simple reveal the area painted for the font its on (if that makes sense. Just a note it is the technique i want to learn - the letter E / e was there as an example.
  4. Thanks Alfred as i already said i know how to do that and i also know how to fudge it so to speak but want to learn the technique for revealing using a mask (I use clipping mask on the ipad in procreate)
  5. Thanks Garry - but thats not it - i can create the effect you have shown, but I only want to reveal part of the E (the central prong so to speak) so it goes over the red part as shown where the green circle is on my image. So i looks like pic attached, but i want to use a mask to create the effect.
  6. So as the title suggests for the life of me cannot get my head around this, i am trying to use Mask to reveal only parts of another layer by using Mask and then the brush tool. I am sure it is relatively easy but I just cannot get it to work (i use procreate as well and can peform this quite easily) See screen grab so for example i want to reveal only the central part of the E as indicated by the circle in green (this is obviously not part of the main image, purely to highlight the area i am trying to reveal on top of the red handwriiten letter)
  7. Thanks Ray, I had done it before but just couldnt think, so was over complicating things. Works great - Thankyou very much for your help.
  8. OK guys this one is annoying me; I am trying to use (let’s say the Ellipse Tool) to place a shape on an image then I want to cut that shape out leaving a transparent hole in the image. I know how to use masks but must be having a senior moment because this is frustrating me. I can obviously get the shape to show the picture (and remove the outside of the shape but not the other way around. I have tried inverting the Pic and the Shape. I have tried using the subtract whilst holding ALT but no good. Can anyone help please.
  9. Hey, I had seen your question but you referred to Affinity designer, this post and it’s tutorial was for Affinity Photo.
  10. Its not allowed in this forum to post links to channels (only videos) but if you watch the video on YouTube (not on the forum) there should be a subscribe button under the video.
  11. You can crop to a square, once you have crop tool selected if you look near the top tool (left top) bar there is a section that has pre defined section - here you can select 1:1 crop (going of memory as I am not sat near my mac to check at the moment) this then gives you a square crop.
  12. I have seen this book on Amazon, I don't have it - so cant recommend but looks like it gets good reviews. https://amzn.to/2GVcE1u
  13. Hi Jeff, Not sure I fully understand the question, are you asking how to crop a square from a image so your not resizing the image in any way ?
  14. Video on how to do this is here on my YouTube channel "How to cut or slice a image in Affinity Photo. Video is here:
  15. Hey, really good thanks for the explanation I did a tutorial on slicing or cutting out a image in Affinity Photo, its not automated for batch but ideal for single edits. Video is here:
  16. Yeah thanks for the feedback (hopefully the video helped anyway) I need a boom for my Yeti mic it currently sits on my desk next to the keyboard and mouse so picks up everything, I am looking at investing in a mic boom to lift it off the desk.
  17. Lol sorry I’m from The UK so can only do my normal accent. Well I can do impressions but they are not that good.
  18. Hi all, thought I would share a quick tutorial I have done - showing how to cut out a image selection using the brush tool in Affinity Photo. Apologies if this post is in the wrong area. Regards, Grant
