  1. To followup on some of my comments yesterday, we are today enshrining our commitment to the Affinity community in 4 pledges made by the Affinity and Canva teams. You can read about them here. We do truly believe the coming together of Affinity and Canva is only going to be a good thing for our customers, staff and the development of our apps. We very much hope you will all continue to be with us on this journey. All the best, Ash
  2. Yes I do! Realise there seems to be a distinct lack of faith flying around here, but we'll be revealing more about our plans in the coming days and yes I'm sure you will all be pleased with what we have to say.
  3. There are genuinely no plans for us to remove the availability of our apps to purchase as a perpetual licence. I will say it is possible in the future there may be an optional way to have them via a Canva subscription plan (which could also include other integrations with Canva / cloud services which you would not get with the perpetual version). But it’s very early days and there isn't a firm plan on that. I honestly think you'll all be pleased with the outcome of this. With the additional financial backing we have no pressure at all to release a V3 anytime soon, so can be 100% focused on ploughing all our efforts into free V2 updates for the foreseeable future - and we've got some great updates in the works. Realise this announcement has come as a surprise and I understand the feeling of uncertainty which is brings, but I do think it's all very positive for the company and our customers.
  4. Hi All, I am thrilled to announce that Affinity is joining the Canva family. This is a moment of great excitement, anticipation, and profound gratitude for all of you who have been part of our story so far. We know that those of you who’ve put your faith in Affinity, some since we launched our very first Mac app, will have questions about what this means for the future of our products. Since the inception of Affinity, our mission has been to empower creatives with tools that unleash their full potential, fostering a community where innovation and artistry flourish. We've worked tirelessly to challenge the status quo, delivering professional-grade creative software that is both accessible and affordable. None of that changes today. In Canva, we’ve found a kindred spirit who can help us take Affinity to new levels. Their extra resources will mean we can deliver much more, much faster. Beyond that, we can forge new horizons for Affinity products, opening up a world of possibilities which previously would never have been achievable. Canva’s revolutionary approach to design democratisation and commitment to empowering everyone to create aligns perfectly with our core values and vision. This union is a testament to what can be achieved when two companies that share a common goal of making design accessible and enjoyable for everyone come together. I want to express my deepest gratitude to our incredible Affinity team. Your passion, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence have been the driving force behind our success so far, and I can’t wait to continue this journey with you all. To our loyal users and the creative community, your support and feedback have been invaluable. You’ve inspired us to push boundaries and continuously improve, and we’re excited to embark on this new chapter together. The future is bright, and I am incredibly excited to continue our story together and create a world where design is within everyone's reach. With heartfelt thanks, Ash For more information... We have included some FAQs at the bottom of the announcement article here. A video message from me with some more background is on YouTube here. Additionally we will be setting up a Q&A session about this acquisition in a few weeks time. More info on how to take part in this will be sent on email and posted on this forum in the coming days.

  10. Hi All, Just wanted to say thanks for all your feedback regarding the alignment drop down. Obviously much of this is general feedback on that rather than specific to this new functionality, although certainly understand that this feature has put focus on some of the improvements to the drop down as a whole. We agree with a lot of what is being said, and will look to make some changes - but these will come in a future update... Thanks, Ash

  13. Hi All, The latest build (2.4.0.2240) which should be available shortly on auto update does now include the ability to lock "insert inside" in addition to the other insertion targets. We have also added the ability for you to use long press on iPad to lock insertion targets... Other fixes in this build are listed in Patrick's post here. Thanks, Ash
  14. Hi All, We have just made a new build available of the 2.4 beta live - version 2.4.0.2240 - which will be available to you on auto update shortly. The fix list for this build is here. In addition to those fixes we have made a couple of tweaks to insertion target locking based on your feedback: You can now choose to lock your insertion target to insert inside your selection. All lock insertion options can now be applied on iPad via a long press on the relevant option, in addition to alt-click. Thanks as always for your continued feedback! Ash
  15. Yeah think it's a good idea. Potentially we could achieve this by allowing you to add your own custom tags to layers - so you could do a selection and tag everything selected as #Selection1 for example and that could both be exposed as an option in a state query as well as offering the full list of tags you have created in some way via the select menu (e.g. a Select Tag > menu item alongside Select Same and Select Object which lists all the custom tags you have created). You could also then manually tag additional layers as #Selection1 as you see fit.
  16. Yes it is true that Key Object is a relatively hidden feature / one you need to know about. We should probably at least add a tooltip in move tool when you have a multiple selection to call it out. We do have a number of things which support key object within a multiple selection. Initially the main thing requested was for alignment (and yes understand the comments on needing first selected checked in the alignment drop down, but also the default behaviour of align - what you get from the Layer -> Alignment menu as well as the alignment options which become exposed in the context toolbar when you have a multiple selection - uses key object if you have one nominated). Additionally: - Spacing now considers key object as per this new addition - Set selection box considers key object to allow multiple opjects to adopt the same selection box as your key object (again added in this beta) - Geometry Subtract will subtract any overlapping geometry from the key object if you have one selected, rather than just the object at the bottom of the selection which is the default behaviour - Size / Rotate to same as added in this beta will use key object as the source if nominated (or the first object selected if key object isn't nominated). - If you choose rename layer with a multiple selection this will rename the key object if you have one nominated too. There are some other functions which would be useful to take account of a key object nomination which we plan to add over time...
  17. Yes thanks all for your feedback on this, we will additionally add to Insert Inside to make it all consistent / cover the use cases you have described.
  18. May as well just hit V to get back to move tool at that point though? The root of the suggestions we have tried to take on board was about a keyless way to get back to move tool when possible, also particularly considering iPad with this too.
  19. Interesting - though we do have some requests logged as to whether a double click on any node could delete the node. We've not played with that yet but think it's potentially a good idea, so we want to reserve any node double click action for that possible new feature in the future.
  20. Yeah it's a slightly insurmountable issue in that hitting the path itself has to add a node rather than contribute towards a double click to return to move tool, and in some instances with open curves there may not be a suitable hit area to achieve the revert to move tool while keeping the object selected with double click. We took a view as it's something that we've seen a number of requests for that despite this imperfection it was worth implementing, as in many workflows (obviously particularly when mostly dealing with filled objects) it does work very well / feels really efficient.
  21. Yeah happy to consider use cases for this but we were struggling to be honest. If you just insert inside once then generally what you have just created is selected within the parent. Then additional things you draw and naturally created above/below that child and naturally inserted within that original parent anyway. If insert inside was locked on then each new thing you draw will go inside the last thing created (rather than the original parent you targeted) - creating a big tree of children within children. As I say we were just struggling to think if that is really what you would ever want, but happy to hear cases when it would be useful.
  22. Yes agreed - I noted briefly on the post but we do intend to add the ability to save presets in a future update (but that will be after 2.4 release). Also to set up more complex rules based on multiple queries (e.g. in the example I gave in the OP you could set up a smart state which says "Turn all layers which fulfils EN query on AND turn all layers which fulfil DE query off AND turn all layers which fulfil JA query off". i.e. so in a single click you could get to your English version.
  23. Actually we are looking at long press on iPad be the alternate way to activate it - that would be consistent with other alt-click operations on iPad such as either long pressing or alt-clicking "Add" creates a non-destructive compound.
  24. Interesting - actually what we have done in 2.4 is made the behaviour consistent between a multiple selection and single object selection. i.e. the bounding box you have cycled to remains sticky until you change your selection. If you were to try your example in 2.3 with a single object then I believe you would see the same thing - you set your object to Regular bounds, and when you rotate it it is still set to Regular bounds (meaning the next cycle goes back to base and you have to hit again to get to a page oriented regular bounds). However in 2.3 with a multi-selection if you cycled to regular bounds and then moved the selection it would reset itself to base (and so in indeed the next cycle would go back to regular bounds reset to page orientation). We felt the new behaviour was probably desirable, or at least should be consistent whether you only have a single object or multiple objects selected?
