  1. What I find REALLY annoying is that, if I open Photo and the healing brush is already selected, when I hit "J" the first time it cycles to the Healing Brush. Drives me nuts.
  2. Now sorted per my reply to @joe_l above. Thanks for your input too.
  3. That's the location, albeit for me its Photo instead of Publisher. None of my file searches found it as it creates a FOLDER with the name of the Workspace and I didn't think to look for that. Thank you.
  4. I didn't have a Studio Preset saved, so I created one. But there is no export facility AND searching did not find any .preset files. I even looked in the xml files for the name of the preset I had created to no avail. No savedState files either. In case it is saved in the Windows Registry somewhere, I saved a preset with a weird/unique name and did a registry search which failed to find it. I using Windows 10x64
  5. Interesting, but the only ones I can find anywhere on my pc appear to be are *presets.strings which appear to do with translation.
  6. Affinity stores all sorts of settings in xml files at C:\Users\???????\AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Photo\1.0\Settings, one of which is called "UserInterfaceSettings". I haven't yet worked out if this one is saving the display layout, but Affinity is storing it somewhere so I have backed up the lot. Anyone know where the screen layout data is stored?
  7. Indeed you did not, sorry! I should have said that based on your comment I tried to see if changing Preview to True brought up a dialogue similar to Export; it didn't.
  8. It does, OMG! Has it always been like this? I thought I changed it as Affinity kept trying to save in its own format. BUT I now much prefer the Export dialogue to a "blind" save as it gives more info and control. Following on from @joe_l post above, I tried editing export.xml to <Preview>True</Preview> but that didn't appear to do anything - previous setting was 'False'.
  9. I have changed Ctrl-S to export as I always use jpgs (no laughing please). Should be able to set a default of choice IMO
  10. Using the inbuilt mask, is it possible to vary the mask opacity separately from the (curves) adjustment? I tend to use a separate mask layer for this reason, but now hope it is not necessary.
  11. This is obviously not a question limited to APhoto, but after editing and (substantial) cropping of jpg images, is there any point in upscaling to something approaching the original resolution before resaving as a jpg?
  12. It definitely seems better with the new driver - I had erroneously thought that MS would update drivers with newer builds 😃 At one time I used to update all my drivers regularly, but stopped after one such update caused a disaster. No more lost changes, but Photo still can be infuriatingly slow with blank layer thumbnails and blank "mini" display, eg when layer thumbnail is blank and levels or curves correction layer opened. Beginning to think it needs a more powerful processor. When I have time, I'll try it on my laptop which has an 11th gen i7. Anyway, @Dan C thank you for your (sage) advice 👍
  13. It's a bit early to tell so far, but it may have helped or even, hopefully, sorted the problem. I'll respond again after my next heavy editing session.
  14. I am using x64 21H2 which is not on the OS list supported, but nevertheless I will try it.
  15. ISTR that when I used to use Photoshop/Express (years ago!) it was possible to set multiple sample/anchor points eg to monitor RGB values as editing progresses. Any way to do this in Affinity Photo?
  16. Affinity Photo crashes all the time; at least once every session - it's the most unstable program I have ever had the misfortune to use. No, I'm not using hardware acceleration; all drivers are Windows own, and I don't use a 3rd party graphics card.
  17. I am running with standard MS drivers for my i5-8500 processor; no graphics card; and no hardware acceleration. Affinity Photo is freezing at some point every time I use it! And I have reinstalled the program. So if it doesn't work properly in my situation, when will it (rhetorical).
  18. Freezing happens so often now it's ridiculous!! Developers seem to be ignoring the issue other than to say "turn off hardware acceleration" (not referring to you @RichardMH), even though it is clearly not the (main?) problem; and who couldn't possibly write poor code, could they. SO much time being wasted having to redo edits.
  19. Thank you. I have also found that using Ultrasearch I can search for files containing "Affinity" to find edited files; FileLocator Pro allows me to search for "Affinity" or "NOT Affinity" which gives me either edited or unedited. PHEW!! You can be sure I will NOT be resetting the exif modified date in future.
  20. My habit after I have edited a folder of photos has been to reset the (Windows) file modified date, and rather stupidly in many cases also the exif date modified, back to the exif date created<fx:sigh> It was to make sorting "better", but I now want to see what photos in a folder have and/or have not been edited. It seems that Affinity adds XMP metadata to edited photos ("History/Software Agent/Affinity..."), but I can find no easy way of listing this metadata by folder/file. Any suggestions, including other methods, would be very much appreciated.
  21. First, an apology for hijacking this topic! I find it an issue, if not a nightmare, scrolling through all the posts that are not relevant for me. And with the likelihood that I'll miss one that could be of interest. For me, one sub-forum per program would be sufficient, but I accept that consensus is unlikely.
