  1. Thanks. Will check those things. I replaced my actual text with filler to protect the innocent so that’s probably not the issue. More likely the fill on the rectangle! thanks again
  2. Ah, thanks. I had a rectangle around the whole page that was interfering with the selection. Moving it aside let me amend the text.Is there a trick to selecting items that are enclosed in other items?
  3. This question is so simple, but having watched the text videos I still have no idea how I edit text in a text Frame in Publisher. I have entered some text when I created the Frame, but now want to go back to amend some of the text. Nothing I do seems to let me do that? Triple clicking selects the text, but I want to change a word and cannot get the text insertion to activate. I guess it is blindingly obvious, but I am not spotting this? Can anyone help me out please?
  4. Hi. I’m not sure what to add beyond the attached design. Basically I draw a lot of curves with the vector pen, then try to use the Expand Strokes, Geometry Add, and Geometry Divide actions to make solid regions. This is a pattern I used many times before.
  5. The workflow I have followed over the last year has been that I rarely explicitly save the document. I do usually return to the home screen though. Perhaps that is the key here. I will try to remember to always return there!
  6. I posted a separate thread about issues with a drawing that disappeared when I performed ExpandStrokes/Add/Divide. I tried a completely new drawing and when I try the same sequence, the Geometry Add action enters an infinite loop and never completes. I tried on the Mac and the same thing happened as well. Has something changed in this area recently? It’s kind of unworkable now... blob-06.afdesign
  7. On a couple of occasions I have lost work that I have done. The first time i thought that I had gone back in my history and forgotten that I had done so. But yesterday it happened again. I created a simple drawing, converted it to objects using Expand Stroke/Add/Divide and then coloured it in with pixel brushes. I then exported the image (using selection without background) and switched to another app. When I returned to Affinity Designer some time later (unfortunately I can’t recall if it reloaded from scratch or was still in memory) the drawing had reverted to the state before I coloured it in. I had not explicitly saved the document, but normally AD happily keeps track of the state. Is this a known problem? Tweet.afdesign
  8. Thanks for that file. I tried looking at the history to see what you did but the historical record is truncated. Did you just do Expand Stroke and Add? Or did you do something else? I am sure when I tried that the region wasn’t selectable, just the outline? It might be time for me to hit the tutorials in depth to try to understand these tools!
  9. Thanks for the feedback! I was trying to use Pixel Mode because I like some brushes there, and to make the entire shape opaque (for use as a sticker). This pattern has worked before, it’s very odd that it is just this one drawing that the Divide Shapes misbehaves! here is a previous example where this has worked korok-2.afdesign
  10. A while ago I asked about how to convert a vector to a set of regions that could be coloured in in the Pixel persona. I was given the magic incarnation of Expand Stroke, Add, Divide. I say magic because I don’t really understand what it does, but it does work and I have used it ever since with great success. Until now. This one file behaves differently and I can’t see what I have done that might have caused this. When I do Expand Stroke, then Add, the Add seems to also do a Combine step, and then when I do Divide everything disappears. Looking on the layers there is just one thing there, no longer individual curves. Can anyone help explain what is happening here? I have attached the file. blob-05.afdesign
  11. I have 20+ GB free on 128GB iPad Pro so that shouldn’t be a factor. AFAIK it’s only storing the documents on the iPad. But I think I just have a gazillion documents “open”, and perhaps they are supposed to be saved explicitly somewhere?
  12. It is possible the history was the reason I lost some state. The missing document could have been overwritten perhaps. I was working in a hotel with poor WiFi but that may be a red herring. Anyway I will watch carefully for a while.
  13. I seem to have lost a drawing I made on my iPad on Tuesday morning and another drawing has reverted to an earlier point in its life. I didn't do anything knowingly to these documents, and just wondered if this is just me doing something odd with history, or perhaps there are situations where AD on iPad has been known to discard data? To be clear, this is unlikely to be AD at fault, I am merely curious. I guess it is possible I did something silly with the document that has gone back in time, but I don't recall deleting the other one (I never delete stuff).
  14. thanks for that tip! have made it work on desktop, and will try that now on iPad...
  15. Thanks, will try to make that work... (it is a bit different on the iPad)
  16. See my comment above, the file wasn't in the correct state. (Apologies). b2.afdesign
  17. Sorry, I had gone too far back in my history. After doing the Expand/Add/Divide and filling in I want to make the two areas that show up in black on the image to be transparent, but even with fill set to none they appear black?
  18. Hi again. I have been using this technique to good effect, but I have not figured out how to make some fully enclosed areas transparent. Once this process is over this doesn’t seem possible? In the attached example there are two areas in the broccoli head that should be transparent. broccoli.afdesign
  19. I traced a doodle of a robot I drew, using Vector Brush. I end up with a layer containing many curves. I would like to be able what appear to be enclosed shapes, but are, of course, individual curve segments. It was suggested I use "Expand Stroke" then "Geometry Add" followed by "Geometry Divide" This left me with a completely black silhouette of my drawing. I am not sure what the expected workflow for doing something like this? I am very new to how Affinity Design approaches this! I was going to attach the afdesign file but it is 35MB so have appended a link. https://www.dropbox.com/s/d2d3t4f3a243vcf/render-bot.afdesign?dl=0
  20. When the Portrait setting was in beta Apple saved 2 images. It is no longer the case, you just see one in the library. You can edit the photo in Apple Photos and remove the effect, but the photos I am trying to open have the effect applied and that is what I expect to see in Affinity Photo. What seems to be happening is that Affinity Photo is requesting the untransformed image somehow, any adjustments, crops or other changes you have made in Apple’s editing tools are ignored. You can see this you cropping a photo then importing it into AP, you will get the uncropped image. I can see why this might be useful sometimes, but it would be nice if it was an option.
  21. FWIW the latest version of Affinity Photo (updated last week) still has this behaviour
  22. Hi I have added the file here. Though if it’s some weird interaction between Photos on my iPad and Affinity Photo it may not help reproduce the problem. It may also be too large!
