I had a feeling that might help.
I've been experiencing this issue for months and also post it on the forum. Unfortunately no one has looked further into it.
@SPaceBar would be great if you can pass my post along as well.

PJD got a reaction from SPaceBar in Epson Printer L1800 crashing AD on print dialog
well @zimmt that worked perfectly, thanks very much!!!

when i restarted it didn't crash when i selected the epson.... that is, until i selected 'last used settings' lol, but i suspect that was expected.. so i restarted and printed it by selecting the options i wanted manually and it worked fine. so i went ahead and unticked the reset presets box (so i could use the last used settings) and it all seems to work fine

so i'm able to print directly from AD and i think it's all good now, so thanks very much for that! If anything changes in the meantime i'll let you know in this thread.

    thanks.

    Hi PJD,
    can you try the following:
Activate "Reset Presets Menu to Default Settings After Printing" as shown in the screenshot (found under "Show presets.." in the Presets dropdown menu).
You can do that from any other printer that works.
Then close Affinity and restart and try the Epson. It might crash again but then on the second attempt there is a chance it might work.

Thanks for the video. I'd logged it now and included all your information.

Threads usually get updated when an issue has been fixed and included in a new version.

I’m fairly sure that this is due to the brush you are using.
If the brush has a head and tail (highlighted in red in the attached image) that don’t ‘join up’ then you will see a gap where the vectors within the font glyph start and end. I believe this is expected behaviour and there may be nothing you can do, other than, perhaps, using a different brush.
I don't use this sort of brush much so someone else might be able to advise better.

Draw the circle Select a brush stroke and apply it Convert to curves Select the Node tool (A) Select the node between the gap and Break the curve. The gap will now close.

    Hi Phoxy Design,
This cannot be done because you can only use the filled are of the red shape to mask other objects. The circular area inside the "inner circle" of the red shape doesn't belong to the shape itself so it can't  be used to mask anything unless you create an "inverted shape" of the red shape performing a subtract from a rectangle as @owenr suggested. Another process you can try although i don't know if it's aplicable to your work/project is to simply change the Blend Mode of the red shape to Erase (on the top of the Layers panel). If you want it to affect just a specific number of shapes, group it with these shapes otherwise it will be used to erase everything that's below it.

    @Phoxy Design

It looks like your black shape has a very large stroke applied to it which is not subtracted in the Subtract operation
Try it with a black shape that has a (black) fill but no stroke
