  1. Good thoughts, especially that. If the color choices were in the New Document window and they stuck if you changed them, then that would work.
  2. To have something "baked in" means that it's built-in. In a sense, it means to include, but the nuance is that it means it's something integral that you've considered from the start, not something you've added afterwards. (I didn't make this up, I looked it up to verify.) Maybe it has a slightly different meaning in different parts of the world but to me, since the contour is an effect you add on to an object afterwards, it literally can't be baked in. Instead of "Expand Appearance" it could be outline or flatten.
  3. Am I doing something wrong or is this a beta thing? I click on an object and then shift click on a second object. The geometry icons in the toolbar are disabled (dimmed). But I can still use Layer > Geometry with no problem. Also instead of shift-clicking, if I click and drag the cursor to select the 2 objects or press Command-A (Select All) then the toolbar icons are enabled for use. 4. Just playing with the contour tool. Very interesting. I'm thinking of ways I could use it. In the meantime, I noticed a couple fo things: - If my document is in inches, and I change it to something else, the Radius box stays with inches. This happens with any measurement unit change. The Radius box won't change units until you pick another tool and then reselect the Contour tool. - I'm not sure about the button named "Bake Appearance". I wasn't sure what it did until I clicked it. I certainly would never call it that, since we're not cooking here. What about Expand Appearance, which is what Illustrator would call it?
  5. Thanks. I deleted the 2 apps and re-downloaded from the App Store and opened/quit them both. The betas now open without issue. Very strange. I've never had that problem before and I never move the apps from their standard location or keep copies elsewhere. Running Big Sur beta 10.
  6. That would work too. I just thought that since many other settings are made default by using Edit > Defaults so why not the guide colors?
  7. When starting a new document I'm often faced with a blank window - no icons for all the page sizes. If I scroll down, then the icons are back. The next time I start a new document, the icons are there. But after awhile when I try again, the window is blank again.
  8. Thanks for the above new feature. I'd like to see a way to make the color changes the app default, rather than having to change each new document I make. Edit > Defaults > Save doesn't save the color change unfortunately. I much prefer how InDesign uses a different color for margins and guides.
  9. Guides Manager - when I change settings under Column Guides, nothing I do affects the document. But when I change the margins, then the columns change along with the margins. Screen_Recording_2020-10-18_at_11_51.04_AM.mov
  10. I'd like to point out this has been going on for awhile... in dark mode, the popup menus in the New dialog box are white. I've checked in a few other random places and the rest of the UI appears to use proper dark popup menus. Is this intentional?
  11. I've run previous betas, but with the 1.9 betas I can't open Designer or Photo. I own both of those via the Mac App Store, they're installed in their default locations and have been opened. Both betas are asking for the registration key. I purchased Publisher right from Serif and it's beta opens without issue. What am I missing?
  12. Agreed 100%. I get the UI right to where I want it, but sometimes I start opening and closing and moving panels around and eventually need to reset back to my original preset.
  13. This is a great addition and I agree it should be expanded to all selection tools. I also agree it would be great to do all the selection options by keyboard rather than having to click in the toolbar (or in addition to). What I'd also like to see is the ability to move the selection as I'm drawing it. In Photoshop you can do this by pressing the spacebar. I have still not seen a way to do this In AP and it creates a lot of time wasted in trial and error for me. Someone please correct me if I've missed a way to do this.
  14. I just encountered a similar thing at work using Photoshop. I had a smart layer, basically the same as Affinity Photo's image layer, and I tried to select part of it and delete it. When I pressed the delete key, Photoshop alerted me that I can't do that to the current layer. Affinity Photo should do that!
  15. One of the things that bugs me and I've posted about it before, is that my view % doesn't stick after certain tasks. For instance, cropping or resizing. After doing either one of those, the zoom changes to fit the screen. It drives me nuts. I aways have to change it back to the zoom % I was on before. So I would ask for a setting to NOT auto-zoom in those cases as well.
  16. I wanted to use separated mode way back when starting out and switched back as soon as I realized the above behaviour.
  17. For the public, it's just 1.8.3 - the fourth digit is just during the beta process.
  18. There is no current beta for Designer. I believe you are using the publicly released 1.8.3.
  19. I can't find my forum post, but I think I reported something similar a couple months ago. One of the apps in the suite didn't have all the alignment and spacing buttons that the other 2 did.
  20. It doesn't work for me either with text. Other objects are fine. I reported it here already.
  21. I didn't copy and paste text styles very often so it's not a deal breaker to me. But don't get me started on Swatches and Layers. They are 2 of the biggest shortcomings in the Affinity Suite, have been talked to death, and acknowledged by Serif.
