Nudge guides with arrow keys
Jeremy Bohn replied to Jeremy Bohn's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
It also seems to me that the only way to see exactly where a guide is placed is to click and start dragging on it, which is, ironically, a drag. It's great in InDesign where guides are treated more like objects that can be selected, copied and pasted etc, so you can click on a guide and at the top it tells you the position and you can adjust it numerically. I also miss being able to have guides that continue off onto the artboard. -
Drag to select objects

I found it, thanks! This is the first time I'm using Publisher on an actual project and I've been encountering many things! -
Transform tab between fields

Hmmm... I've tried it over and over in the Transform panel and it goes: X -> H -> Y -> W -
Select Multiple Swatches
Jeremy Bohn posted a topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I accidentally created a bunch of swatches in my document. I don't know how. Anyway, the only way I can see to remove them is to click them one at a time and right-click, Delete, then confirm. This is quite tedious. Is there a way to select multiple swatches at once? In InDesign you could shift click then just press the delete key in one step. -

Table Increments in picas
Jeremy Bohn replied to Jeremy Bohn's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Thanks. I just don't see why in inches it's a small amount and in picas it's so big. With a typical small sized table, a 1p increment is huge. I think the Table should use the nudge distance as set in settings. -
Table Increments in picas
Jeremy Bohn replied to Jeremy Bohn's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I'm on a Mac, so CTRL doesn't do anything but the option key does. Anyway, it's still wrong. The option key does smaller increments but it's 1.2 point increments. It should be just an even 1 point, and by default without the Option key held down. Then the Option key can be to do the larger 1 pica increment. -
Clicking and dragging the cursor to select objects appears to only select the object if you drag around the entire object. I much prefer how InDesign works where dragging around even part of the object would select it. Is there an option for that, and if not I would suggest it be added.

If I reposition the document origin away from the top left corner of the document and then drag to create a new guide, the position of the new guide has a tag that pops up next to the cursor which ignores the new origin's position. In the attached screenshot, you can see that the the 0 position on the rulers (the origin) has been moved away from the corner. The cursor unfortunately doesn't show up in the screenshot but you can see the little black tag reads 61p - it should be 0.

Using Picas, when increasing or decreasing Table Insets or Cell Width/Height/Insets, clicking the up and down arrows adjusts the amount by too large of an amount. For instance, clicking the up arrow increases the amount by a whole pica (1p) when it should really only increase by 1 point (p1). Switching to inches and it appears to work correctly, increasing by only .01 inches. Suggestion: cell increments should increase by the smaller amounts

Suggestion: in the Transform panel you can tab from one field to another but they don't tab in the correct order in my opinion. For instance if the selection is in the X field and you press tab, the selection moves to the W field - I think it makes more sense for it to go X (tab) Y and W (tab) H - this is because if I am changing W I am most likely to want to change the H next. Hope that makes sense!

Dark theme issues
Jeremy Bohn replied to Jeremy Bohn's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on macOS threads
Hey Chris. What do you mean the Save As dialog is not black in Finder. How do you Save As in Finder? I tried a few other apps and they didn't have the light scroll bar (Mail, Safari, Contacts...). -
I'm seeing a couple of issues with the dark theme. I'm running macOS Mojave. The problem was in the earlier beta and in the latest version as well, both Designer and Photo: 1. In Open and Save dialog boxes, the sidebar scrollbar is not dark. 2. With multiple tabs open, the line between the tabs is barely visible making it hard to distinguish between tabs. It should be made more noticeable. Screenshots attached for both issues.

Late-comer to this party, but musiberti you hit the nail on the head with your comment "As a layout artist you see your project as a whole. Not as a collection of single pages." The way it is now it would be a nightmare to set up larger documents. I often create a "background" layer where background colors, textures and elements can be worked on independently from the rest of the design. Then I can lock it, and work on the main content, keeping the background undisturbed. Sometimes my setups could expand to 3 or 4 layers, just to keep more complex layouts easier to manage. Or sometimes I have a "shell" that is needed for the proofing process with customers but needs to be turned off when printed. Turning the layer off and on is much easier to do on a document-wide layer.

Copy / Paste Layer Effects
Jeremy Bohn replied to Dams's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
I'd like to see this added as well. In Photoshop you could right-click on the FX icon on the layer and choose Copy, Paste or Clear for the layer effects. Clear is also not there as far as I can see. -
I'm running Mojave and I don't have the Metal option either. Late 2017 27 inch iMac, Radeon Pro graphics. ALSO, I've noticed these 2 things: 1. No settings were brought over from the 1.6 version when I opened the beta. Everything was reset. 2. When I select a layer, and then press the Escape key, the History panel says "Deselect" but the layer is not deselected. Worse, if I keep pressing Escape, the History panel is filled up with Deselect, over and over. This issue was also present in 1.6.x

Missing nested formats
Jeremy Bohn replied to Mezzo's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
InDesign calls this feature "Nested Styles" - I use it all the time and is a major time saver once you've set it up. I especially like it for menus... Menu item name in one format - tab - menu price in another format - forced return - item description in another format. -
Publisher doesn't seem to have any professional printing options that I would expect for output to a printing press. As long as printing is tied into Apple's default printing dialog, it's going to be much too limited for this purpose. The built-in system overly relies on popup menus too which are quite annoying to work with. Among many other things, some of the basic professional print features missing are: Page size controls directly in the dialog (imagine printing a smaller document onto a larger plate for a printing press) Control page position (centre, centre vertically, horizontally etc) Enable/Disable Print blank pages Bleed - add in option to use document bleed or specify a custom bleed Separations control, ink aliases etc. Crop marks "edge only" option - I'm not sure why this is even an option as the definition of crop marks to me IS edge only, but regardless, when enabled or disabled the preview box doesn't update to show the difference. Better visual aides in the print preview - see InDesign, for example the bleed area is shown in pink and the document edge and direction is clearly defined Flip, Negative, Screening Controls - all of which are vital to press InDesign has it's own Print dialog, and I remember QuarkXpress did too before I switched many years ago.
