  1. I agree with summersara that something has to be done. At the very least, if a certain tool will not work with the layer in it's current form, the tool should either be not selectable or greyed out, or if you attempt to use a tool on the layer it could tell you it's not supported instead of doing NOTHING. This is what I found confusing. It does nothing, leaving you to think that it's broken.
  2. A suggestion for hiding and showing panels... if you have several docked together and you close the window and they all close as a group. It would be great that when you choose to Show one of the panels in that group, that the rest of the group come back as well. I always found this very handy in Creative Suite. Currently Affinity will just Show the one panel, so I'd have to show each Panel one by one to get the group back.
  3. InDesign deals with this a whole lot better, taking the unit of measurement into account when working with increments. For instance, if you are using inches, clicking a down or up arrow on a measurement goes in increments of 1/16 inch. If I switch to Picas, the same function now works in increments of 1 point. It bugs me right now, for example, in the Tables panel when working in Picas the increments are not even points but like 1.2 points.
  4. I just wanted to add that I agree that the Layers concept needs to be overhauled. I've also voiced my opinion in several of the linked threads, but this is another one, and here is the thread I started myself a long time ago when I find started using Layers. Quote from the first thread I linked to:
  5. Thanks Walt, I hadn't thought about needing the shift to get the < > symbols. But I think the menu should say Command Shift >. As for my update about preferences, well d'uh! And I still don't understand why the smaller increments at smaller sizes.
  6. I figured it out. Simply clicking to select the table doesn't work with those buttons. Possibly it should but it doesn't. I have to select the cells for those buttons to work. If this isn't a bug, perhaps it could be enhanced. I would expect selecting the table that I could alter the entire table at once.
  7. That's not what I said. If the panel was set to greyscale because I was working on another object, it stays at Greyscale when I click on the color object.
  8. I understand that, I'm saying it SHOULD though. That panel should dynamically change according to what you have currently selected. It only goes part way at the moment - if you click a CMYK object and the panel is already set to CMYK then it changes to the color of the object. But if the panel was set to Grayscale, it stays on grayscale even though the swatch changes to the color, as you can see in my earlier screenshot. You can then change the mode back to CMYK and the color values are maintained. My point being that's an extra step - if I wanted to edit the color of my object I have to change to the correct color mode first. It should just change to CMYK when you first click the object. The popup menu is half useless if it's not actually changing the color mode of the selected object.
  9. Color me confused. 1. When I choose from the Grey swatches, I choose Black 30% and I get a light grey. This is as expected. 2. Then if I use the Colour panel switch it to Greyscale mode, the same percentage works the opposite way. 30% gives me a dark grey. This is not how I would expect it to work. 3. On top of that, if I click on a color swatch to change something like text color or stroke and fill color for a table, the term is changed to say Greyness. In my opinion, the only thing that's right here is #1. What's wrong about #2 is that the slider says Grey but really it's black, and when you drag the slider to 100% you're not getting 100% black or even 100% grey, you are getting 0%, or rather white.
  10. There is some strange behaviour with changing text sizing with the keyboard shortcuts. Turns out there are several issues here: 1. I couldn't figure out why sometimes the shortcuts worked in 1 point increments and sometimes .1 point increments. It would seem that in small point sizes, it switches from 1 to .1 which I don't know if it's a bug but please I hope it is because it's annoying. 2. What's also strange is that it seemed at first that 9 point was the threshold... below that and it works in the smaller increments, but in playing around with it suddenly it changed to 10 point. 3. And then, I discovered that if I start at 10 point and use the shortcuts to reduce, it goes 10, 9.9, 9.8 9.7 and so on... but if I increase it goes 9.7, 9.8, 9.9, 10, 10.1, 11, 12 - what's with the 10.1? 4. Finally, the keyboard shortcuts listed in the menu don't work. It says Command > and Command < to increase or decrease but they do nothing. All they do is beep. What DOES work, is making it SHIFT-Command> etc. UPDATE > I quit and restart Publisher and tried Command < again and now it's opening the Preferences window. What the!? So it would seem there is something wrong here!
  11. Without any text frame selected, if I change the font, that becomes the new default font whenever I create a new text frame. Problem is, that doesn't apply to Tables, and it should. I expect if I change the default font to Myriad, when I create a new table, it should be using Myriad and not Arial as it's currently doing.
  12. It's just the Colour panel. Actually now that I've fiddled with it more, it seems kind of silly. It doesn't change according to what you've currently selected. So I select a CMYK item and the colour panel just stupidly stays on grayscale. You would think that if I change the color mode to grayscale, the item would convert accordingly. It doesn't do that until I click the circle in the slider. It's little things like this that Affinity needs to work on to be take more seriously as professional graphics software.
  13. I've created a table, it has a .5 point border, and I want to change it so there's no border along the top. Problem is none of the border buttons work. In the screenshot, under Stroke and Fill, next to Border none of those buttons work. They just flash when I click on them.
  14. I did a search on this topic and found this thread. I'm surprised there is no color conversion tool. Then I thought at least if I select the object and change the color mode in the Color panel... but that's strangely an extra step. I click on my color object, click on CMYK in the panel and choose Grayscale, but then have to click the grayscale slider to make the change take affect. Why can't it just change without the extra click?
  15. Ya, not a bug but an enhancement request. The delete key actually removes the number that's in the field, so the last thing I would expect is the original number to return. With InDesign, it goes to zero in every field I've tried. If zero ends up not being a valid number (for instance, size) then an error pops up saying it's not valid.
  16. The delete key doesn't appear to work in most, if not all fields in panels. For example, see below where the field in the Paragraph Panel is selected. If I press delete, the 12pt is removed, but as soon as I tab out or click elsewhere, it goes right back to 12pt. This is not at all how I'd expect it to work. Pressing delete means to remove it.
  17. I found another similar problem with the Enter key. I can set it as a keyboard shortcut, but it too doesn't do anything. For instance, I set it to the shortcut for a column break (to match InDesign) and the shortcut is listed in the menu but all it does is a regular return.
  18. I just noticed this, actually in all 3 apps, but the flyout menus in the panels are light even in dark mode:
  19. By "outside memory" do you mean a thumb drive? What do you mean by "AF is activated?"
  20. Sounds like you've been exporting the document pages as TIFF files. Did you open them to see what they contain?
  21. That doesn't work at all on a photo. There are no selection handles when using the node tool because a photo doesn't have nodes.
