I know Apple's sandboxing is an issue, but it would have been great to have a few bulk export options from the V1 iPad apps to unload: all custom brushes, all installed fonts, all assets etc. to the files app so we can more easily install them in V2. Doing this one at a time is ridiculously time consuming. And there is no option to export a font.

I was attempting to replicate a perfect arch using Designer. Adjusting one node at a time, freestyle, is very tedious and time-consuming when such an effect requires a reasonable amount of precision. I need to practice with this manual way 😅… but I expect a computer to do more of the work.

    3. More presets with sliders for different classic envelope distortions - typically those used for typography like; flag, rising side warp, etc.
    4. Add modification key to allow symmetrical warping (ex. pull nodes on left and right side toward center at same time).
    5. Allow option for node snapping (ex. level with another node,) when editing mesh.
    6. Allow options for 45 and 90 degree movement lock when moving nodes or handles while holding SHIFT.

It's very useful for freehand warping, but anything structured, (like for typography when you need symmetry & verticals/horizontals to stay true,) it is a bit of a chore to use.
We need more behaviors and tools:
    1. The nodes to be able to snap with modifier key like a regular node. Vertical, horizontal, 45 degrees.
    2. Have a toggle or modifier for symmetrical node behavior both in same direction and opposite directions.
    3. Better presets that are easier to edit. Employing a special node like the shape tools use would be extremely useful for preset use. This way we can make flag, raised edge, and warps that need symmetry with ease. (See Vector Styler).
Vector Styler easily remains the gold standard for best implemented vector warping, especially for type, IMO. There are so many options and they take literal seconds to employ. It is still faster to copy from Designer, warp in VS and paste back in Designer than it is to manually move every node for an envelope distort where you need to ensure vertical/horizontal lines stay true, (ex. for a raised edge or flag type effect). I urge the Affinity devs to give it a close look and see about employing similar usability.

Everything about working on the iPad is kind of a pain in the rear. I bought a couple of the v1 apps for iOS and once I began using them, I just resolved to make time to do that work on the desktop.
The apps are fine, it's routine stuff like file handling and installing fonts that makes the iPad as much fun as doing taxes.

Here's a quick samples of the ridiculous amount of warping tools in VS. They have regular and power node based envelope distortion, brush based warping and distortion as well as path based warping. You can stack any of them together as well.

Not really a bug but a very much missing feature. Warping doesn't snap.. it also doesn't move in a straight line when holding shift.
There is simply no way to be precise when warping something

A few weeks ago I noticed that Affinity Designer 1 supports CPAL/COLR-fonts on Mac on newer versions of OS X, it still doesn't support SVG color fonts though, and I have to use Pixelmator for that. Since I can't see Serif releasing information about their color font support, I would wager that the support comes automatically from the Cocoa SDK and OS X UI libraries rather than something they've done themselves.

I'm a type designer who works mainly with Glyphs, and about a year ago I upgraded to the full version of Glyphs 2 that supports creating many different types of color fonts. Today I found out that I can use the curved text tool to write text along a curve, if I instead of letters draw repeatable shapes, I can use glyphs to create a "brush-font", and since they're color fonts that means I can create overlapping shapes (by that I mean I can create a white layer instead of just white being the negative space as it used to be with BW-fonts).

Since fonts are normally vector-based, a CPAL/COLR-font will provide a real vector brush that when converted to curves becomes a proper vector outline. The only major downside is that it can only support iterative/repeating brushes as it can't warp the letter to fit the curve or support any form of brush pressure.

I might consider making a brush font and releasing it as part of my font-portfolio, any suggestions for repeating shapes you want released as part of a color font?

I’ve attached a short video showing (crudely-done) the whole process - you will need to take better care in getting the right result.
Note: The colours need to be added at the end because merging the curves makes a single Curves layer which can only have one fill/stroke.
Note: As mentioned by Old Bruce below, the Merge and Separate steps are unnecessary; you can omit those steps (and therefore have the shapes coloured beforehand).

I've given up on Affinity.  It seems clear to me they thought they'd be bought out and after four years haven't made the most desired change to the product.  I don't think they're working on it and they've basically given up.  These guys aren't in the game of writing cutting-edge software, they're playing for buyout money.

Have fun, I'm done with the show.

People have been asking for one of the most important tools they can have and the response from Affinity has been, as far as I can tell, zero.

Seen it a million times before.
