Willem Pirquin got a reaction from Mark Ingram in Affinity Designer Windows Customer Beta - 1.9.0.852
I just noticed you added a "select same" option and this is one of the few functionalities I still missed in Designer.
Can't wait for a stable release and keep up the amazing work!

I use Illustrator less and less, but this is one feature from Illustrator that I really miss in Designer.
Illustrator has the option in the "select"-menu to automatically select objects with similar properties as the one selected (see screenshot). This comes in very handy if you want to convert all your 2 pt strokes to 3 pt strokes or something similar.
Maybe there already is a way this can be done in Affinity Designer now, but I couldn't find it.

    Hi William,
Thanks for reaching out! I delivered one pdf-file (completely vector, all fonts expanded, scale 1:1) straight from Affinity Designer to the company that produced the mesh-banner. They didn't call me, so I assume they had no problems with the file.
The tour only passes tomorrow, but I noticed that the council of Overijse already replaced the banner with a new one to announce the next town-event on national television, so there won't be any pictures of racers with the banner in the background (I really hoped for it myself!).

I make a lot of isometric illustrations, so I the isometric pane makes my life so much easier (thanks for that!).
But It would be even better if the isometric window could also be shown in the pixel persona so you could switch planes and lock drawing angles to the isometric grid while making the sketch for a vector drawing.

Could you say something about what happened between you producing some sort of electronic output file (or files) (what was it (or them) please?) and the finished banner appearing in public as shown in the image please? That is, how did that huge banner get produced given the file or files and how did it go from being produced to being on the wall. Does it go in a museum after the event takes place? Is there to be a video of the race leader riding past it?
    William

Willem Pirquin reacted to Horseflesh in An "offset path" function as in big bad Illustrator would make my day
I use Designer (and Illustrator, and even Inkscape) at times to make shapes that will be cut out on a laser cutter.
If I want to make pieces that are sized correctly to press-fit into each other, it is necessary to make the piece that goes inside the hole very slightly larger than the piece that you originally cut out of the hole. If you don't do this, the piece you plug in fits too loosely, because the laser vaporizes a stroke about 0.007" wide.
Illustrator's Offset Path function is perfect for this "kerf compensation" operation--as well as having many great uses for illustration, I am sure! With it, I can set an offset like +0.008" and then use the miter and join settings as needed to make sure that the new path matches the shape of the source path.
I don't think there is a way to do this in Designer, so right now I have to detour into Inkscape or Illustrator, which sucks.
This is my most-desired feature addition.
In the meantime, if anyone has a trick for using existing Designer tools to produce a very precise amount of offset, I would love to hear about them.

Thank you, I love the new isometry panel. It's super easy to take any layer and make it isometric based on the plane I have selected. The one feature missing from the panel is to round trip a layer back from being isometric. Turning an isometric layer flat again. Could be very useful if, say, a client were to suddenly request a flat look even though we'd been working in isometric land all day. Happened to a friend.

    Hi All,

I used Affinity Designer, from start to finish to make this huge illustration for the upcoming event of a Belgian union (ACV), the text reads "equality makes the difference". Designer worked great on this one (Isometric grids! Infinite zoom! Global Colors!) and I plan on using it way more often for client work. Keep up the good work!
