I let the app detect and install it. There was no description of which privilege it needed.

The installation of all three products went automatically to my C: drive, despite it being close to full. I would have preferred the option to choose a different drive.

I moved the apps to a preferred drive and created shortcuts. They all looked the same, so I replaced the icons with those from V1 and now it all looks like it should have done from the start. I repeat my comment that the decision to use MSIX and provide no alternative was a bad one and should be reconsidered.

I should imagine that MSIX could cause problems in a corporate environment.
The more I think about it, the more I think MSIX as the only option was a big mistake.

I posted a similar complaint. I don't use MS Store apps. I don't even use the standard Windows 10 menu, instead using Stardock's menu which looks like Windows 7, precisely because I don't want to see these Windows store apps and I detest this ridiculous tablet interface on a high resolution dual monitor setup.
I just want to be able to use the new suite in a "normal" windows desktop experience. That is to say, have an icon on my desktop that I can double click. And oh boy, do I have to jump through hoops for that to happen.
I had to copy all three program executables out of the installation folder (so I can use them for the icon for my desktop shortcut) and then make a desktop shortcut to point to the iconless executable shortcut in %APPDATA%\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps. And trust me, if you're not a technically literate user, even finding and accessing those executables in the first place is non-trivial.
I totally don't see what Affinity is trying to do by moving to a Windows App model. It just degrades the experience.
Oh, and the program startup time is 3x slower than Affinity 1. And because it's a Windows App, I don't get to choose where to install it, so it wastes precious space on my system drive when it could instead, in a normal app, be installed to a user-defined location.
EDIT: Before anybody points me to this link on how to create a desktop shortcut. I know how to do this. The problem is that the shortcut is created entirely without an icon in one case, and tiny, illegible icons in the other cases. Here's an image of my manually created icons on the left and the icons that get created if you try to create them using the recommended method on the right. It looks like a dog's breakfast.

I am very disappointed. I expect a software vendor to provide me with an executable .exe file for installation that gives me the choice of the local program folder. This is also the case with most providers. I just don't want to do this cumbersome .msix crap to myself, especially since I don't use MS Store apps and have disabled all Microsoft spy features. If Serif continues down this path, they've definitely lost a customer. And I think I'm not the only one.

Can you please provide an alternate installer? Our corporate standard operating environment Windows 10 version can't even run the installer. It's also not possible to update windows. That's done company wide over hundreds of thousands of machines only after super intensive testing and nothing anyone but the top of our parent companies IT department can even consider. Changing the installer to something so unsupported and blocking so many users is not a good idea.

Some can't choose locations, others can't install at all.

The only software I have on subscription is MS Office 365 and you get updates pretty much constantly.
Serif's model with Affinity is perfectly fair, in my view: new versions don't come around every year, so you are going to get plenty of free updates (we used to call them 'patches') during the lifetime of the version. At the end of the day, Serif is running a business, not a charity, and if you want Serif sofware to continue to improve, then Serif need to be able to pay for good developers. It is what it is. I think just under £90 is pretty good value for the bundle they are offering.

Please tell me I'm wrong. I 've paid good money for the full Afffinity suite, way back. Now I'm being invited to buy Version 2 (so much better, so, by implication Version 1 not so good any more). But I'm being asked to pay the same price as first-time buyers! In the good old days, when apps were called software, existing users got a discount price for an upgrade. That was a logical approach to pricing, which encouraged existing users to move onwards and upwards, when they had less incentive to do that than first-time buyers.
I'm sorry Affinity can't find it in themselves to thank me for ditching CS whatever it was for their software. That I have previously bought their stuff counts, it seems for nothing. I am of no more interest to them than a new customers.
Thanks, guys. I'll stick with my existing versions. Even though they don't have a scanner interface. But then, ninety quid's worth of V2 doesn't either.
Y'know, I liked Affinity a lot. I recommended it to everyone I know.  Now, I feel like a mug.
Loyalty, guys, is a two-way street.
    Yours,
    Roger

You buy version 1.x, get upgrades and bugfixes up to 1.99 and the software is yours to use for as long as you want -- no subscription, no hidden fees.
When version 2 comes out it will be a separate product and it's up to you if you want to stay at version 1.99 because it does everything you need it to, or if the new features are so tempting to you that you want to spend money on them.
Serif is VERY generous with their releases: Designer came out in late 2014, so 50 bucks bought you a great software and 5 YEARS of continued support so far. Most other software companies release (and charge) for a new version every year and introduce less new features for their paid upgrades than what Designer, Photo (and surely Publisher too) implemented during the 1.x clycle.

    Hi Matrixunloaded,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
Each OS (iOS, macOS and Windows) requires its own license, however you can install the program on all your devices (using the same OS that is) as long as you are the only one using it for commercial purposes (so no need to activate/deactivate licenses).
