  1. Okido, that's worth noting as I always have Photos open whilst editing. Will keep an eye out for that. Regards the computer constraint question I basically asking if the extension is a watered down version of Affinity or as capable in every respect? Another quirk worth mentioning is that if for any reason I choose to cancel an edit and close in Affinity, the screen it returns me to will in fact be a summary of the PREVIOUS photo I edited rather than the current one i cancelled. Hence I have to be super careful not to hit Save Changes when doing this otherwise an unintentional overwrite of an unrelated photo occurs. This glitch has been around for years so thought I'd mention it. I did manage to replicate the 16Mb warning too....see attached. No expert so not really sure what 'flattening' really means and if all my edits to date are suffering as a result? Cheers, John.
  2. Hi and thanks for the reply, I'm using an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) with OS Monterey 12.2.1 (21D62). It's only the Edit in Affinity Photo extension that struggles to open up the Affinity program, the others work fine, presumably because they don require the entire Affinity software to be opened? Yes, editing RAW images. Regards saving I simply Command S and Command W in Affinity and then Save Changes in Apple Photos. Failure can happen in either software but more common once in the Apple Photos screen. I have noticed that if I try to use the same extension process to edit a JPEG but switch to the Develop persona instead when Affinity opens before developing and carrying out more in the Photo persona, that that workflow leads to a far greater number of failures to save an incomplete operation warnings. Largely a RAW editor though. If I get another 16MB notice I'll screenshot it and send. Is there any computing constraint/editing limitations involved in using the extension through ApplePhotos as opposed to using Affinity o navigate to the same photo through the File Open route? Ive always done this and presume you get access to the same degree of editing 'power' so to speak. Cheers, John.
  3. HI, I've always used Affinity to edit my photos but through Apple Photos using the Affinity editing extension. It's been a few months since I last did any editing but am noticing a few glitches. Has anyone else encountered this? They include: - Extension working on second attempt only - Shadows slider in Develop making virtually no noticeable difference to the image on screen - Very hit and miss as to whether the edited photo is saved in Apple Photos after Saving and Closing in Affinity. Quite a few 'unable to complete the operation' notices whereby you have to start over. - Notices in Apple Photos about a 16MB editing limit being exceeded and info about the file being flattened. I always use the extension through Apple Photos as it just seems a more straight forward workflow for me but differences are starting to appear where I'm wondering if the extension is inferior in ability to accessing the file through Affinity instead. Opening the same files through Affinity without using Photos gives a very different experience and things like shadows and highlights behave much more competently. Saving a file edited this way doesn't save in Apple Photos though so not ideal. Any help appreciated. John.
  4. Just a note as requested by Affinity’s recent post regarding delays in responses that this issue is still unresolved.
  5. Thanks folks for trying. Updated to 1.9.1 but minimal change. In Raw persona changes to the file using sliders still have a noticeable lag before replicating on screen. The bottom inch or so catches up first across the whole lower strip of the image, followed by top left and top right in larger blocks for the other two halves of any photo I’m working on. It takes about a second or so for each section to catch up across the whole image so really slows things up. I haven’t carried out any other changes yo my system other than updating the app so this is not a local performance issue. Screen recording below as extreme example. Can any Affinity staff throw light on this? lag_example.mov
  6. Hi, Since updating to 1.9 on my iMac I've noticed two frustrating issues so far and hope you can help: 1) Image processing in Raw persona is suddenly now noticeable laggy. Basic stuff like clarity, shadows/highlights etc take some time to show on screen when adjusting the slider. Rendering on screen is partial, blocky and slow which means that if I move the slider too often its impossible to tell which stage is being reflected infront of me. This seems less of a problem when moving to the Photo persona. Hardware acceleration is enabled. 2) In the Photo persona the adjustment panel on the right now no longer opens the relevant adjustment tool when double clicking an adjustment. This is now only possible through the much slower process of accessing the menu bar at the top of the screen and scrolling through to the adjustment I wish to change. Can this be returned to normal functionality as it significantly slows workflow? Thanks, John.
  7. Hi all, Would be very grateful if someone could shed light on why I’m seeing different histograms displayed for the same file depending on whether I view it in camera (LUMIX G9) or in Develop persona in Affinity?Image in RAW format. See attached. Regards, John.
  8. Hi, Having recently upgraded to a Lumix G9 camera and seeing the it is on the anticipated compatibility list for your new Affinity Phot 1.7 as DC-G9 I have just downloaded the beta app. I have barely begun using it yet but have noticed that it is unable to deal with any photos taken in the G9's High Resolution mode which uses pixel shift to create an 80mp file using the 20mp sensor. The screenshot below demonstrates the result of trying. is this an issue you are already aware of? I know pixel shift is common technology on other camera platforms too. Regards, John.
  9. Just a quick update to this topic....more of a warning. Only edit one at a time using the extensions. I've noticed that if for any reason you drop out of an ongoing edit through the extension process mentioned above and do not save, then when you return to apple photos screen the image you began editing with will be replaced by the one you successfully edited before that (if you've been doing a few). If you click 'cancel' on the apple photos screen then no problem, but if you click 'save changes' then the original file you were working on has been replaced by the successful edit previously completed. If you don't realise whats going on (like I did the first time) then when you click back to the thumbnails screen in photos you'll notice all is not quite as you left it with files being overwritten left right and centre. If you notice the error early enough you can rescue the by going back to the file that has been accidentally overwritten in apple photos (the one that never got to the point of being saved in affinity) and click 'revert to original'. Then click 'done' and order is restored and all is right with the world again. If you notice this a little late in the game after many edits then the only way to check which files have been overwritten and which haven't is to go through each one by one in apple phots, selecting 'edit' and click on the before/after button (to the left of 'revert to original) to see if there is actually a completely different file underneath. One to be aware of. Hope this saves someone the headache I had!!!
  10. Hi, I’m trying to figure out the most streamlined way of editing my imac stored photos with Affinity. I prefer apple Photos as my main catalogue software but Affinity as my main editor and therefore want to save my edits back to the same position in the Photos library on completion. I’ve found the Affinity extensions in the editing options of Photos but have two questions. When using the Develop, Liquify, Retouch etc extensions I can click ‘Save Changes’ upon completion and the edited file will be updated in Photos. This is great but the toolset in these extensions isn’t as comprehensive as the main Affinity suite. I can access the full power of Affinity by selecting ‘Edit in Affinity Photo’ instead but then the option to ‘Save Changes’ back to Photos has disappeared and the only option is a tedious export of each edit from Affinity. My questions are: 1- Is a ‘Save Changes’ option ever likely to be added to the full ‘Edit in Affinity Photo’ extension as with the others (Develop, Liquify, Retouch etc) or is this just asking too much of the software? 2 - If the above isn’t possible is there a way of replicating what I want to achieve by somehow (and simply) exporting the completed Affinity Photo edit back to Apple Photos to update its original? Saving edits from affinity software by exporting to another file system (in documents or pictures etc) is fine if saving edits files for prints, web etc but I’m struggling to see how the FULL power of affinity can still be used to simply edit and save files from Photos back to where they came from. The editing suite within Photos is ok but I’d much prefer io use Affinity. Am I missing something? Regards from a new by, John.
