I do a lot of helpsheets in publisher using the snip and sketch tool, one thing to consider is the zoom level of your screen when you snip. If you only want a small part of the screen increase the zoom level until you get a good size image. If you are using a small part of the screen at normal zoom and then enlarge it when pasted it will pixelate.

To get any feedback you need to state which Affinity App your are using and what operating system i.e. windows or mac. A screen grab of your export settings including the expanded more will lso help. Details of what your design contains the most of e.g. images, vectors, text etc would help also

Not sure what operating system you are using or app, but presuming APub on either windows or Mac? Not totally understanding what you trying to achieve or what the end product needs to look like. I have done similar things in word for rota sheets in using mail merge. This is something you could probably do in APub beta using the data merge feature? If you can post a sample I am sure there are many who would take up the challenge of designing the most efficient way

I hope someone with more expereice picks this up and answers you. My first question would be why you would export to pdf as all text is going to be resterised and if you are enlarging in anyway it will have pixelated edges. I have always exported as high quality jpg to print A4 photos where I have added text. Showing a screen grab of your pdf seetings including the "more" options will help more experienced users help you. I have publisher so all my posters use that to create a pdf where the text does not pixewlate.

Stock Panel Vector Checkbox
AlanPickup posted a topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
Excellant to see the vector checkbox in the Stock Panel for Pixabay do not know if that was in previous BETA but will be something I will make use of often. Hopefully some other vector search sites as programmes develop. -
I have noticed on previous occassions when I loaded a file with many missing fonts each instance is listed seperately I think. but the font only needs to be located once. The problem comes when you do not have the font and need to substitute all the variations and occurances, I do not think changing one variation to an installed font change all instances, I may be wrong. It could do with a pop up when the document is opened, even if it is an APub file, simmilar to Resource Manager for images etc.

I have been having something simmilar in Publisher with PDF exports for a newsletter. IN 1.7 the files sizes were very reasonable. In 1.8 and 1.9 the file sizes have jumped enourmously for a the same size of newsletter. I have uploaded test files to Serif where the the files size is over 500mb for 3 pages of A4 with 12 images per page. If I export this as Digital high qaulity, about 90mb, then open the pdf in publisher (not place) the files files have dropped considerably and I can get a reasonable size pdf for digital to send by email. Clicking on my profile will list the recent posts about large size pdf

Size of PDF export in 1.9 latest beta
AlanPickup replied to AlanPickup's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
Hi Gabby Found it was also in the release version. StokerG has replied in the support forum and I have uploaded files for him to investigate -
Hi I have posted a couple of times without any response from Affinity team so here’s hoping. I am trying to reduce size of an exported A4 pdf Newsletter without losing much quality for viewing on line. These are tests I have previously tried and wonder how I can achieve this without having to import the pdf. Thanks to Walt and Lagarto for help through messages previously. Using latest Publisher Beta I create an A4 page RGB/16 10mm margin all round. I then create an image frame to the margins and from Unsplash in stock penal select the first image under search "face" and drag to the image frame. This exports Digital Small preset and 1.7 pdf at 1.95mb. At Digital – High Quality the pdf is 20.89mb The APub file is 25.8mb If I open the High Quality PDF export in APub and then export as a pdf the Digital Small export size is 44.89kb and the Digital High Quality is 1.84mb the APub file size is 10.8mb. Viewing on line shows very little difference, other than the image is very slightly flatter in the pdf import version, but shows very little pixilation at 200% viewing. I am by no means an expert on file sizes and pdfs but would like to know how I can achieve the same results and smaller sizes without having to import the first pdf back in to APub.

Hi Questions need to be posted in the Question and support forum, as may not get picked up by mods in Resources. Also helps to give what version of affinity you are using and whihc operating system. I am using latest release publisher and placed a word docx without any problems, but this was a single page document. When you tried where there red marks on the text frame? it may be that you cannot see the text if there is a lot of blank space before the text in the docx file, but expanding the text frame could reveal it. You would then need to create overflow linked text frames. I am on windows 10

Hoping someone picks this up, tried again today with simmilar results. In the latest Publisher beta (same results with released version) on A4 paper size RGB/16 I created a 60x60mm images frame I then created 12 on the page on by using ctr+drag to create a row of three, Then the same process using the three to ctr and drag down until I had 4 rows of three on the page. Then duplicated two more pages from the first. Starting at the first image frame on page 1 I dragged the first 36 images in to the frames using the Stock panel Unspash search "sky"until all were filled. When I Saved the file the size is 474mb. Exporting a pdf using the PDF Digital Small size it is 5.63mb. If I then export using PDF - High Quality the file size is 92mb. If I open the 92mb PDF in APub and save the file it is 29.8mb when saved the PDF from this file exported using digital high quality is 8mb, using PDF low quality is 253.67kb and the images seem ok for online viewing, I somehow need to get to the smaller sizes without having to create a pdf 300dpi and then open it with Publisher as I use image frames and stock photos quite a lot. Lagarto has been corressponding wiht me over the last couple of days, but does not seem to have the same problems I do. He did say he works in CMYK though does that make a difference? I am not knowledgible with PDF satndards to know if there is a better way

Hi I am trying to bottom this problem and not sure whether it is me or APub. I produce a quarterly Newsletter for the patient representative group of our GP Practice. Because of COIVD I have not done one since Dec 2019 which was a 37mb file that produced a 1mb PDF export. I am producing one for the winter period in Beta to try some of the new features, currently it is around 20mb but I am struglling to get a pdf export less the 5mb. Thinking this was related to the beta version and unable to open the file in 1.8 because of new features I imported the pdf in to 1.8,.I lost things like hyoerlinks and image frames but the pdf export dropped down to less than 1mb from V1.8 so I thought this was a bug in beta. I have just produced in 1.8 a 4 page publication which consist of 12 image frames per page on A4, file size 22mb. When I export the pdf at 144dpi the pdf size is 19mb, if I then import that pdf back in to publisher and export to pdf the pdf size is 2.2mb. I would love to know if I am doing anything wrong as most of my work is for emailing or downloading from websites, which is difficult with such big pdf sizes. This can be reproducesd by creating an A4 page in Publisher and insert 12 image frames on the page, then dupicate the page until you have 4 pages. Fill the image frames with any image from the stock panel and export as pdf. Then import that pdf back in to Publisher and export as a pdf and compare the pdf sizes

I recently posted in the Apub Beta forum about simmilar problems which I have again experienced in the retail version. I have just created a 3 page publication with 27 images embedded over 3 pages of A4. I have used 29 picture frames approx 63x63 mm I have then used windows smipping tool to copy the middle of 27 A4 flyers preciously created in Publisher. I have them inserted them in to the picutre frames using replace image and adjusted to fill the frame. The images are between 50kb to 140kb I get a file size of 27.1mb. Exported as a pdf at the setting below I get a very large file size of 29mb. If I then import the pdf in to Apub the file size is 18.6mb when exported as a pdf on the settings below the pdf is 2.98mb. As these are for emailing or downloading the 27mb pdf would be useless. I am by no means an expert on pdfs so any help would be gratefully received. If you want the files please send a link to upload.

Size of PDF export in 1.9 latest beta
AlanPickup replied to AlanPickup's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
I have now imported the pdf produced from the beta back in to the beta and the export gives a file size of 1.16 mb, but again the hyperlinks do not transfer across from the imported pdf. Reverting back to Release version for time being as most of my work is sent out by email or downloaded. -
Hi I am by no means an expert in exporting to PDF and unsure if I am missing anything. I created a 14 page newsletter in beta and when exporting at 144 quality it creates a pdf size 5,352Kb. The release version will not let me open the apub as it has been created in beta. However if I import the beta pdf in to 1.8 it does a good job apart from the hyperlinks all beed recreating. When I then export to pdf at 144 quality the file size is 914kb. AS this is going to be emailed out it makes quite a difference and many mailboxes will probably reject the final version. In beta the print to pdf gives about the same size as 1.8 but obiviously no hyperlinks work. Attached is screen capture of the two export settings s

Studio Link Tools in other apps
AlanPickup replied to AlanPickup's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
thanks Walt, like you say arguments for both, just I have so few tools in Publisher and any workspace is always welcome -
Hi I have added many of the new tools in to my beta of APhoto, which now needs two columns. When I go to photo personna from Publisher I do not see any of the new tools, must the tools be added using the photo persona from within the Publisher Studio link? Also if I do that and create two columns in Photo personna when I retrun to Publisher that also now has two columns. Is this the expected behaviour?

Yes it happened 3 times yesterday with the same procedure on that file. I went again to try it just now and the same happened. Becuase the file contained personal pictures belonging to a third party I cannot send it even by link. I duplicated the file inserted different images and could not recreate it, obviously down to a specific image. If I can recreate I will send a file.

Hi I am about to upgrade my monitor to a 27" Illyama but unsure which display panel IPS or AMVA+ is better for Affinity products, which apart from general emails etc is my main use of the computer. Does anyone have opninions about which is better for use with photo/designer/publisher I am not doing this for a living, mainly as a hobby and to help local charities improve their leaflets , booklets etc for free etc.
