  1. You can untick the facing pages in the Document Setup set up and the pages will be single, this can be re ticked when you want to work across facing pages for text flow etc.
  2. You may have seen my postings on the exact same problem, so it will be good for the people who say they don't get the problem to see it is a system rather than a user problem. Like you I am seriously thinking about PagePlus for a while until some of the bugs are ironed out. My photo needs are basic and the built in tools in PagePlus meet my needs
  3. yes it is the same version, are you exporting the pdf with the web profile and viwing in chrome? This is what does not work, other profiles are fine, as is PagePlus with the same seetting
  4. This problem with the suggestions is the way we work with this newsletter, it can be a work in progress over a period of 3 months so i can be re-visiting it almost daily over this period as articles appear, never had any problems in Page Plus, which did use ligatures as shown in the pdf export. I have been down the route of setting text styles without ligatures but could not find how to make this my default style and remembering each time was a "B... Ache". Perhaps if the mods can give me definitive instructions how to make the no ligatures my default style that would be great as my previous efforts worked until I did a new text box and changing the style did not seem to work. Looked at the other suggestion from Pauls exporting text as curves increases the file size from 1mb to 8.66mb, embeding all fonts increases the size to 1.56mb so will go down that route and hope any mailbox restrictions do not apply when it is circulated. We tried sending a link to download the pdf from the website, but the downloads recorded and response to questions was low compared to the response of the email version when we asked questions in the articles for events etc.
  5. Also a publisher pdf created direct in publisher without any importing or pasting does the same using thing web export pdf setting ligatures do not show in chrome, but do in adobe reader
  6. Following on from Joachims post I opened the publisher pdf in adobe reader and the ligatures are there. I use Google Chrome as my default reader and the ligatures do not show in google with the publisher export but the PPX9 pdf does. The person who first highlighted the problem uses apple safari as his reader and that does not show them. Now if you export the pdf from publisher as for print pdf version the ligatures show in chrome. Hope this narrows down the problem as most of my work is for viewing on the device so the files needs to be compressed so that gets through the email system or easy to download
  7. Hi I created a sample page in page plusx9 using filler text set in Arial 12 I then added somewhere words that pick up ligatures at the end of the first paragraph and published this as a pdf. Imported it to Publisher not problems, then exported in as a pdf for web viewing and ligatures not showing one of the letters. Files and screen shots attached hope this helps as I have a lot of page plus files that pages are needed in publisher with or without date alterations / updates Export from Publisher.pdf PagePlusX9 pdf.pdf Publication1.ppp Publisher with Imported text.afpub
  8. Do not know if this is what you are trying to achieve but I have had to put PDF documents often with custom fonts in to newsletters, often having to reduce the size from A4 to A5. I have found that if you print the PDF in Microsoft print to PDF you can place the outcome in to publisher as an un-editable PDF without any changes to font styles.
  9. Sorry had to find a work round as it was a 20 page newsletter required this morning. Deleted the images and reloaded them in to the document and it exported OK. Also the program does not crash if I click on the k box with the replace images. The ligatures are the biggest problem, only appearing as a single character in the pdf, yet is you select the text in the pdf and paste it the 2 joined character show. These are not easily to spot in a big newsletter. If you can recommend a sans serif body fount that does not have ligatures would be grateful as I cannot seem to change the default to none universally. I also think a lot of the ligatures are coming from text that has been copied and pasted across.from emails and word docs Will try and attach afpub and pdf if it happens again
  10. Following on from the problem with ligatures in Arial font I have now found that an images as not appeared in export PDF Web option. This is the first instance of using Publisher with a production Newsletter and I have to seriously consider that it is not stable enough. I have sent this out twice now only for errors to be spotted and having to withdraw the circulation list and resend amended each time when I have consulted the forum and found answers to the problem. The image in question, there may be more as I have not checked all of the the newsletter yet, is in the screen shots below. Also if I click on the tool bar box that says K Only the program crashes in both publisher mode and edit in photo. I realize these may be error on my part but I used PagePlus for 2 years producing the newsletter without any issues. It is only all the work of retyping or cutting and pasting that is stopping me abandoning this newsletter in Publisher and going back to PagePlus
  11. Hi First off I do not use the IPad so not sure of the differences with afstyles and whether they are the same on that device. Secondly not clear when you say Broadway font texture what you are quite looking for. There are numerous styles files on the resource forum and ones for publisher work on Design as well. Also when you have applied the style they are only presets of the effects panel and you can tweak them to achieve what you are looking for or even start from scratch and apply your own effects. If you want a neon light bulb font for free try https://fontbundles.net/free-fonts/neon-light you will then get two different styles using the shift key, You can find the neon styles pack somewhere on this forum and you apply this to the text, be careful though as some styles are set up on fonts and will change your font as well as apply styles but you can just change it back in the font manager. Hope this helps as I know it can be frustrating if you do not get replies.
  12. Thanks for the reply I suppose the only good news is that it is not dependent on the original file so will not affect it is I reorganise my files at some stage. The main thing I was worried over was slowing down performance. Will build up my assets in one program / one machine and then export them out and import in to other programs on a when needed basis Thanks again
  13. Hi Could someone please advise how the Asset Manager in Affinity products works with regard to resources etc. I am using Windows 10 on both machines I have just watched the user Video Tutorial on Asset Manager by Multi4G and decided it was time I sorted out my assets and how I use them across the full suite and before doing all the work thought it best to clarify first and same some angst later, so any clarity greatly received on the following 1 How does Asset Manager work with regard to resources i.e. is it just storing a thumbnail and link to the asset in its current location or is it creating a file with a copy of the asset in user profile somewhere. If linking to the current location does it mean if I reorganize my files the asset will not link, similar to linked resources in files if you move them. 2 Does having to many assets slow the performance of the Affinity programmes. 3 I use both my laptop and Windows PC, both of which have SSD drives for the boot C: drive for programs etc, then my files are stored on a normal Sata drive with partitions for the folder/files on one partition and my Onedrive folders on another partition synced to my online 1TB onedrive so I see all my files on both machines. Is there a way of putting my asset files in a shared location on the synced drives so both machines can use the same assets folder? 4 Can the various affinity programs share the same asset file location are do they have to be created then exported/imported in to the other program? Any ideas on best way to proceed gratefully welcomed
  14. Again I do not know whether it me or not so I create a new text box select body in the paragraph panel and typography shows Ligatures unticked. So create a new text box and it is still showing body in paragraph and ligatures is now ticked for this text box, I have to re-select body in paragraph and it goes unticked. Does this mean I am going to have to do this every time I create a text box? PagePLus 9 all is forgiven baby I am coming home, hope you still love me
  15. Hi Walt Thanks for the info, but not sure if I am doing it right. I clicked on the base style and edited it and saved it as default. Closed down and opened a new document clicked on base layer and all ligature boxes are uned, but if I open a new text box and click on the top bar Text>Typography the Ligature box is still ticked and the Text>Ligature is set at default.
  16. I have just had an issue with ligatures and pdf export. I exported a 20 page newsletter as a pdf for web using the standard export and all the ff characters appeared as single f, yet when cut and pasted from the pdf showed up as ff. I was using standard MS fonts as body text, in the main arial and times roman italic. As most of my work is done free for charities and third sector groups who cannot afford to have these printed I have turn off standard ligatures as they do not really enhance the type of work I am doing. How can I change the default to off as it seem to be on each time I open a new document and I cannot seem to find it in preferences
  17. Thanks Alfred, because it defaults to 0 I never thought of typing zero in, again first time I have ever been on Gumroad, interestingly I read an interview with the founder last week on how he made a fortune and lost it developing Gumroad https://knowyourteam.com/blog/podcast/episode-38-interview-with-sahil-lavingia-ceo-and-founder-of-gumroad/ and felt it strange I had never heard of it.. Will have a look at the site in general at some stage and tryout the sample LUTS. Thanks
  18. Thanks Michael I had been looking at trying to do it with the outer shadow effect on the text converted to curves and then altering the offset and angle, but could not get the 3D tapering on the side view of the letters, obviously trying to do it too simple, as per below using colour to emphasize
  19. Whilst appreciating your work and video tutorials I always feel a kind of mistrust when adverts or offers are not clear Being someone new to LUTS I would have liked to try your free samples to see if they suit my needs and your prices seem very reasonable, but by using Gumroad I am not able to do so as I have to name a fair price which I am expected to pay before downloading, then being required to enter my credit card details etc. Also the price quoted for the full pack then adds TAX on to the price, be clear in your posting or advert that this may be the case or directly upload your sample pack to the forum.
  20. Really good effects. Wold you mind sharing which program you used or combination of multiple?. I very much like the perspective on the letters moving out from the centre, was that achieved by using shadow effects on each letter individually or is there a way of doing this on multiple letters. This would be good advice on techniques for those of us who may be novices on creating effects but familiar with DTP and using programs like PagePlus and Publisher. Thanks
  21. Hi Walt it is the same file as attached originally I just tried it with a picture on the canvas to see what happened if it was a picture updated file attached text box sample.afpub
  22. Thanks Walt, I will keep that option in mind, I was hoping I was doing something wrong and that it could be done the same way as PagePlus so that i could play about with the fill of the rectangle detached from the text. It works fine for a shape or picture until you apply wrap properties to it. I can see this being frustrating in magazine work where you have an offset picture wrapped in to the text and you want to overlay some text as an afterthought, as per the pictures below first without wrap setting and the second with wrap setting. Even trying to remove the wrap setting does not alter the way the text interacts. Maybe the mods have some thoughts on this
  23. Hi Hoping some one can explain whether something I want to achieve is doable having tried various wrap options. In PagePlusV9 I could set a text frame of two columns and insert a rectangle box into the frame and set the wrap setting for the box so text flowed around it. I was then able to create a text frame in the centre of the box and add text. If I do this in Publisher the text will only go below the rectangle and I have tried various wrap settings without success. The only way I have found as a work round is to do the text frame first and set that as a wrap in the text then drop the rectangle in after sending it to the back Hope these screen grabs explain and I have attached the sample file text box sample.afpub
  24. Have you tried using the web profile and adjusting it to suit your needs under more settings. This brought a file I put on the web as well as print from 14mb down to less than 1 mb and you can set it until you get optimum results. I also used to do this in PagePlusx9
  25. Answering this at its basic level in case it is simply inexperience with working with fonts Not sure what system you are using but fonts have to be installed in the operating system font directory, in windows this is the main drive windows folder then fonts. The way to install in windows is to open the font by clicking the file which gives the preview and the option to install the font in to your system is at the top right hand corner
