Willabong reacted to Jowday in HaldCLUT LUTs for Affinity
    Hi @Willabong
I don't use Photo so this is from memory. But a few recommendations from me - I use LUT's A LOT in Photoshop. These profiles will often give the image an over-cooked look so here is how I would have used them in Photo.
I would - one profile at the time - test it on some images. I would add a contrast layer, a vibrance layer and a highlight and shadow layer and adjust them individually. After a few tests I will figure an average out... fx best settings will be the LUT layer at 60% opacity, a contrast layer with -4 contrast and a highlight shadow layer that lifts he shadows a bit. Perhaps I would add a little vibrance. Whatever you feel makes the image look right. Averaged. With that knowledge I would record a macro that Adds the LUT layer with the above setting Adds the contrast layer with the above setting Adds the highlight-shadows layer with the above setting Adds the vibrance layer with the above setting Adds whatever layer you need I think (memory, perhaps I am wrong) You then have to add the macro to the library yourself (?) Have to group the LUT related layers manually (you don't have group them though) Repeat this macro-mania for each LUT you want to use on a regular basis

People should try to understand that Affinity Photo is NOT Photoshop and Affinity Designer is NOT Illustrator! These are totally new Applications and even though they cover everything that Photoshop and Illustrator can accomplish and do this much better, neither application is trying to emulate Adobes dinosaurs. If Serif listened to every complaint about "this feature and that button doesn't work like Photoshop/Illustrator does", we would end up with Photoshop/Illustrator clones, lets hope that never happens!!!

I used "professional, industry standard, oh-oh-so-the-best" Photoshop and Illustrator for over 20 effing years. All my grown up life I am making a living designing stuff. So if this is not professional use of software then I don't know what is
I tried Affinity as soon as beta showed for Windows. I bought it soon after. After month of working on it I ditched Photoshop and Illustrator. I dont need it, simple as that. Designer and Photo fully replaced both of these ow-so-perfect-if-you-are-not-using-these-youre-not-a-pro aplications. And when I hear people crying about such silly little things as a shortcut then I think to myself - youre shouldn't be allowed to even mention professionalism if default shortcut is stopping you from working. Some people are just unable to switch, looking for excuses, giving some silly explanations. You dont want to use Affinity software? Then don't. But by claiming that Affinity isn't pro enough you are making YOURSELF look silly. I am immediately starting to think about this old saying "a bad workman blames his tools". It sounds like "I cant hammer this nail because look at this - my hammer is blue now. Can you imagine? How it can be blue? I had pink one for years and it worked perfectly. Plus this one has a rounded head! Not squared! This is ridiculous, such luck of professionalism! Give me back my pink, square headed hammer, I cant deal with it".
Silly, ridiculous nonsense. Sorry had to say that. Crack on

Yes, it's a little bit different to how we've done it before, but I think it makes a lot of sense. Previously, once a beta had "ended", it was difficult to know when a new one had started. So now, any beta user can just continuously use the beta, without having to worry about switching over to the retail one at some point, and then watching out for when a new customer beta starts, and switching back to that.

The key bit of information which people might need to know is that the latest beta version and retail versions are exactly the same.

    HHi Darkclown,
I understand where you are coming from however, I use AP every day.
I use it 3-4 hours or more EVERY day.
Why is important to know is that AP, like ALL products is used by everyone in their own unique way.
    My workflow is jpg based, and roughly follows;
I infrequently use DarkTable for some raws. I use MS ICE for image stitching.
Next is Jpg clean up, crop, detail and blemishes or cloning. Save as a master.
    Then create multiple layers.
Do any merging, copy and paste when making montages or composites.
Edit in AP with NIK or Topaz for colour and details.
Further AP edits, crop, blending as required. Possible edit in Corel Painter.
If so back to AP for colour, brightness, lighting filter and final crop.
Done. Save as a photo and jpg.
    For me, AP is perfect.
I can take from 25 minutes to 3 hours per image...
It has everything I need. I am a photographic club member I'm the UK and my images win many competitions, including the US, PSA.
For me it is a robust, reliable product.
    Enjoy....!
PS. An example from Brighton, UK.

My experience of upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 was painless, but soon after the upgrade I started to have niggling little problems with stability, so I then performed a clean install on all 3 of my machines, and I have never regretted doing that!
But you do need to backup/save anything you want to keep, this is just good sensible practice!
Now that I am fairly proficient with Windows 10, I can honestly say I would never go back to Windows 7 or any other version of Windows.

In the future if there is conflict between any users I would rather someone report it to an Admin than continue arguing with each other. Because of this I have removed a lot of posts from this thread. I apologise if you feel your post was removed when you feel it shouldn't have been.

Affinity is no different, except that Serif are actively (if sometimes slowly) correcting the problems. I have every sympathy with those of us who still have problems with the software, but they really need a reality check, just go to the main Adobe forum/s or Magix music forum, even Microsoft Office forum  and you will find plenty of people who are unhappy about this or that feature not working properly. All of these developers release patches occasionally for their non BETA software, but sometimes you wait years before a bug is removed. Patience is needed by ALL of us!

    Hi DarkClown and others,
Everyone is entitled to his own opinion and we certainly don't mind users express them in the forums as long as we all respect each other while doing so. I believe at this point everyone already made their points clear, so I'm closing this thread as I think there's nothing more to add.

Regarding the issues with the Windows version, we are aware that some users are having problems with it. As stated before the dev team is quite small and is doing their best to fix all reported issues and improve the performance of the program.

We did have a Beta phase for Affinity apps on Windows where we corrected/fixed most critical issues/problems that were reported at the time the best we could before the release, but due to the huge Windows userbase and infinite number of hardware and software configurations out there, a considerable number of new issues/conflicts/problems were reported after Affinity's release. Since then we have been fixing bugs and solving those issues and are still doing so as they are reported.
This is somewhat expected as it's the first time the Windows code is running on a high number of hardware configs beyond the beta test phase. Things should get better as we stabilise the code and fix/look at these new reports. This takes time - specially for a relatively small team - but there's no other way to do it other than releasing the code in the wild (we must do it at some point), facing the new issues reported and work to move the application through this first/initial phase until it starts to stabilize. The Mac version is more mature because we started this same process two years ago. So please bear with us while we work on it.

For those participating in the forums it may look there's a large number of users having issues but remember there's no other place where they can report them. There's certainly more that are not experiencing any issues at all.

    Beta vs Final:
I guess what you mean here is that, since Affinity Photo might not be 100% stable, is not fair to call it a final product.
Now, if that's the case, I think you came to your conclusion too quickly.
First of all, the stability seems to be a serious issue only for a portion of the users who frequent this forum (I'm one of them). For others, they can either live with that or they don't experience serious stability issues at all.
Second of all, if I got you, your point is since Photo is not 100% there yet, cannot be considered final. When, I ask then, you think it would be OK to consider a product final? There will always be bugs to fix, issues and feature requests (some more urgent than others). Now, if you are or have been an Adobe customer, you definitely know what I'm talking about.
Just yesterday I started working in a studio where they run CC 2017. The bugs with the AE cache, which has been a real pain since the very first CC, it's still there! We are talking about an empire's product, with a first release dated 2011! It's been 6, long years!!

    Communication
I don't quite get what are your expectations, here. Are you referring to a roadmap with a precise schedule?
As far as the communication goes, I myself have posted and didn't receive answers in a few occasions, I consider that normal. For a software which I bought for $50 (actually $39 with the launch offer), I don't think I can ask for more than what the moderators are already doing on the forum. In fact, as already pointed, the forum is very active.
Also, consider that, perhaps because of the price, a lot of users here are newbie or not trained professionals, which means the forum is filled with questions every day which moderators have to take into account in order to help them to overcome the first obstacles.
As I already posted in other threads, I personally wish there were less irrelevant feature requests (an Affinity Animation/Editing program, basic Timeline for Photo, a Dam and so on so forth), especially considered there are core features and more serious topics to figure out first, but that's just my thought.

Lastly, when you get stuck and your post seems to go unnoticed, bump it, chances are someone will chime in and help, or some administrator may notice it.

    Hey all,

The Photo for Windows beta has proven incredibly popular, and I appreciate that, like with any software, there's a learning curve and the requirement to invest time in understanding the software's functionality and idiosyncrasies.

With no firm commitment to delivering them consistently (that bit is important to note  ;) ) I'd like to share some example editing/workflow videos. My aim is to demonstrate Photo's feature set and, hopefully, help viewers understand how the tools and features they're accustomed to using in other software can translate to Photo's implementations.

In Designer's Paintbrush Tool (Pixel Persona), just select 'Protect Alpha'. Done.  Not everybody works in the same way so I'm happy that you have found an application that works for you, but to start saying we're 'clumsy' because we don't do something that we do actually do is unfair. The whole point of the Affinity suite is that you match them all together and you have a FULL photo-editor inside a FULL vector editor - nobody else offers that. Designer is meant to be your vector illustration tool and raster starting-point. If you need more pixel-stuff, you need Photo and then just clicking one button toggles the document and all of its undo history into the other application. I thought that was quite compelling myself?

Seriously, have you seen Paolo's illustrations and paintings - he's more than a bit good and he owns just about every painting software in the world ever, so if he's using Affinity then I'll take that as a good sign... ;)
