affinityfan reacted to Tinz in Ability to edit a Gradient (mask)
The way masking works in Photoscape X Pro is excellent, particularly with gradients. I can easily see what the mask is doing and I can also adjust it at any time. Unfortunately in Affinity Photo, I can't tweak a gradient on a mask if I leave the layer to edit a different layer. I have to recreate it again from scratch. This makes the workflow really annoying and I often end up abandoning Affinity Photo and using other tools as gradients are very important to my work, so please consider making adjustments and improvements to your very impressive editor, to improve gradient features.

    Hello,
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the final build of Affinity Photo 1.9.2 for macOS.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is an incremental update to the 1.9.1 version recently released to all customers (although it still installs parallel to the released version, as described above). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.
    Affinity Photo Team

    Changes Since 1.9.2.229

    - The recent Metal changes have a couple of undesirable side effects. We have disabled them for the shipping version of 1.9.2. They will get cleaned up and reintroduced in the next beta cycle. This means the benchmark version remains at 1900 for 1.9.2.
    - Fix potential crashes on M1 devices (introduced earlier in the 1.9.2 beta).
    - Enforce ISO country code character limit.
    - Fixed crashes with malformed ICC profiles.
    - Improved the reliability of panorama stitching.
    - Fixed bugs which were preventing Unsplash stock page items from working.
    - Improved PSD import from recent versions of PS.
    - Output levels (in the levels adjustment layer) are now correctly exported to / imported from PSD.
    - Fixed missing EXIF data for EOS 300D RAW.
    - Fixed a HEIC crash.
    - Assorted tweaks to the new LUT import / export features.
    - Assorted small fixes.
    - Localisation improvements.
    - Help improvements.

    Changes Since 1.9.1

    - Added ability to organise LUT adjustment presets, including support for multiple categories and import / export as “.afluts” files.
    - Added ability to drag / drop all adjustment presets to reorder them.
    - Added support for OpenType reverse chaining contextual single substitutions.
    - Significant performance improvements for assets (import, export, organisation, etc.).
    - Typography panel performance improvements.
    - Minor improvements to Gaussian Blur performance when GPU is enabled.
    - Assorted visual fixes in the adjustments panel.
    - Further fixes for deadlocks with multiple GPUs.
    - Restored ability to plug an eGPU in while the app is running.
    - Fixed issues introduced in build 227 for users with multiple GPUs.
    - Fixed occasional screen corruption introduced in build 227.
    - Fixed potential deadlock issue when loading large files.
    - Fixed assorted small registration page issues.
    - Fixed the size of the “General” section in preferences.
    - Fixed localisation issues in preferences.
    - Fixed inability to add / rename / delete export presets.
    - Fixed issue where UI would remain hidden when a studio page was enabled from the menu.
    - Hardware acceleration has been improved to better make use of Metal (specifically to batch commands together into chunks, which gives the driver a better chance to optimise commands and provides a higher degree of abortability). The benchmark has also been tweaked to use multiple command queues for the Single GPU test, which makes it more representative of “real world” use.
This change affects both real-world performance and benchmark score. The benchmark version has been changed to 1920 - this means that results from this build should not be compared to results from previous builds with benchmark version 1900 (other than to measure the improvements which these changes yield). Once the iPad and Windows builds have been validated with these changes and new beta builds produced, a new forum thread will be created for 1920 benchmark results.
    - Assorted performance improvements for assets.
    - Assorted content download improvements and fixes.
    - Added ability to optionally sort brushes by name.
    - Improved performance of export and merge visible, especially in documents with Live Filters.
    - Fixed a crash when using File -> Share after File -> Export.
    - Fixed a bug where some Live Filters would appear to move after save / load.
    - Fixed a crash when opening a brush category context menu with no selection.
    - Fixed a bug which caused adjustment to fail to apply easily when clicking with a stylus.
    - Assorted other small fixes.
    - Localisation improvements.

Vanishing point perspective has previously been discussed on other threads, and indications are that the developers do hope to provide that at some point, but may take a while to get there.

In the meantime, Mac users might check out the vanishing point perspective features offered by Hej Stylus, which can be used with multiple applications (not just the Affinity products).

1st I'm not asking to Serif of any of team to copy and implement this as it is presented.
2nd I'm all good with what the Affinity line of products have to offer in its current state of release.
But on the other hand taking this as example of indication of what Serif can enable on the Affinity product isn't  a bad thing and many will surely get good profit of this.
The Video talks by itself so describe my suggestion in a much better way than any words I can write here.

Path offset is a tool I’ve found I’ve used a lot in illustrator. Glad to see designer has included something similar - just hoping they iterate and improve upon it so that it works a little more intuitively I.e keeping the original path in place and creating the offset as a copy

Just tried the offset tool. EXCELLENT!!! THANK YOU!!! - After experimenting and getting great results I hope I can request a feature of this tool. Can you add an option like a check box to keep the original contour when you apply the offset. (this may already be there, I just couldn't find it). My workflow in testing was to type some text, convert it to curves, duplicate it and apply the offset to the duplicate in order to keep the original. Maybe an option to do this... But anyway, a big thanks for this. I can start to see Adobe in my rearview....

As it stands now, the select features are a nice addition, but are frustratingly all encompassing. They really should let you limit its scope as far down as to a group.
While I can see the benefits to having it select things across your entire project, it certainly shouldn't be the default and only option.

A workaround would be to open in publisher as pages, then you can only edit what is on your chosen page, although you can't (currently) go back to artboards
I think the current workings are good but I would like to see an option to select same across all pages in Pub and maybe an option to select same on on this artboard only in designer

Maybe I am missing something, but is there a way to limit these new functions so they work just for one, selected artboard?
If I want to select all text on the artboard I am working on and ALL text is selected across multiple artboards function becomes useless... I tried locking other artboards but it still is selecting elements across all of them. Whats more - you can even move elements selected in this way while artboard is technically locked. I tried turning on visibility of other artboards but this also didnt worked.
Long story short - if I am not missing anything - can you please make possible to use these new tools only in the active artboard? They work great on single page, but to use them with multiple artboards this is a must in my opinion.
Thanks for the great improvements in 1.9!

I think to limit the scope to a layer is perhaps the wrong wording since 'layers' in AD are basically objects. I assume you are thinking of artboards or group layers?

BTW I support this idea. It could improve 'select same' and 'select object' quite a bit.

The new 1.9 update added quite a few neat new features, however, I feel like this one could use a few more tweaks to make it even more handy.
It would be amazing if we could have a toggle to limit the scope of these selection functions. As right now they simply select EVERY matching object in your entire document. While this is useful in its own right, its a bit of a nuclear option. I feel like having a toggle to limit the scope of these to say, a layer, would make them amazing for a wider variety of applications.

I'm Andy from south-east Suffolk (England). I have been interested in digital image adjustment for many years, starting with Photoshop Essentials 3 (I think) and then various versions of Paintshop Pro up to PSP2020. Whilst I like a lot of PSP, there are various things in the development that have started to irritate. I won't go into the detail!
I was attracted to Affinity Photo from various reviews and favourable comments about the more sophisticated layer adjustments and focus stacking. The excellent video tutorials were an unexpected bonus.
The extended 90 day trial of version 1.9 got me hooked and the half-price offer landed the catch!
As may be expected, there is a learning curve to climb, partly as there is a different design philosophy to that of PSP.
I look forward to learning more.

affinityfan reacted to Frozen Death Knight in (Regression from 1.8) Dragging images directly from your web browser into Affinity no longer imports them as an image layer but instead shows the URL in a text layer
You are right about it working the same in 1.9 and earlier versions after doing some extra testing by reinstalling 1.8.5. However, I know for sure that the results for using Affinity now is different this time around than it was in the past. I did some extra digging and found out the true reason why the behaviour was different: I switched web browsers fairly recently.
When I booted up Firefox again which used to be my standard web browser and attempted the same drag and drop action, the feature worked as it should. However, with Google Chrome and other web browsers based on the same architecture (i.e. Opera and Brave) this functionality changes to Affinity just copying the URL. Here's a video demonstration:

Desktop 2021.02.19 - 03.36.45.02.mp4 So in this case I accidentaly stumbled upon different behaviours and thought it behaved the same across all browsers, which was not the case. Because of this I would like to retract my previous report and replace it with a report about how dragging images from different browser types produce different results, i.e. Chrome vs Firefox architecture. If possible I would like to see this changed to the Firefox behaviour on the other web browsers as well, since it is a pretty useful feature. Maybe even give different settings options for how this drag and drop behaviour should behave if people prefer the other behaviour?
