affinityfan reacted to walt.farrell in Affinity Designer Windows Customer Beta - 1.10.0.1085
The Release Notes for the Publisher beta have this:
Presumably the changes have become big enough that they required changing the file formats in an incompatible way, which is the usual trigger for a change to the major release number (1.x), vs just incrementing the minor number (1.x.y).

If you drag a file onto your canvas it becomes a new layer.
If you drag a file onto your canvas while holding the Alt key, the Place Image panel opens, with the file preloaded in it, and the cursor becomes the Place Image cursor. This allows you to position and size it as you want.
Edit: And if you select multiple files and drag them onto your canvas while holding the Alt key, they all appear in the Place Image panel, and you can Place them individually using the Place Image cursor/tool.

We are pleased to announce that Affinity Publisher Customer Beta 1.9.4.1082 is now available as a download from the link above.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is an incremental update from the 1.9.2 version recently released to all customers (although it still installs parallel to the released version, as described above). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.
---
This beta has a performance focus. We have addressed a number of issues particularly with the handling of placed images and documents. If you notice performance improvements (or regressions!) over 1.9.2, or if you notice bugs which appear to have been introduced in 1.9.4, please let us know.
Resource Manager Improvements New 'Relink' option for missing resources New 'File Type' column in Resource Manager Improved efficiency when updating Resources for some documents Show progress for long operations Improved memory management for placed PDFs set to Passthrough Improved output of placed PDFs set to Passthrough to targets not supporting Passthrough Artboard Labels could disappear Fixed some issues with Picture Frame content scaling ---

Yup, also made a post for the same problem, but even after 3 updates they didn't fix it. I think it's because they mainly develop for Mac and basically only port on Windows. Please, take care of us mortal Windows users too. we are probably the majority of Affinity users anyway! 🙏

affinityfan reacted to Muhammad Yamman in Some Basic Tools which are Missing in Affinity Designer and Must be Included in Affinity 2.0
I have recently shifted from Adobe to Affinity. Most of my work is related to Designer, I use Photo occasionally. I’m very satisfied with it overall. I can do pretty much everything on Affinity which I could do on Adobe. But I have noticed that there are some very basic tools which are missing in Affinity apps. Here, I’m making a list of those tools. My request to Affinity decision makers & developer team is that, please include these tools in Affinity 2.0 as designers are desperately waiting see these in Affinity (Most of them are just related to Designer but some are missing in Photo too):

affinityfan reacted to PaulEC in Affinity Animation is TOO easy to add
To be honest I can't really see the point in having such basic animation. Presumably you would also need some way to set the speed, and also be able to export it in a suitable format? For basic animation I would have thought that animated GIF support in APhoto would be more useful.

It already exists on Affinity Photo on MacOS, I think, and is a known bug that it's missing on Windows.

Hello,
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the first build of Affinity Photo 1.9.4 for macOS.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is an incremental update to the 1.9.3 version recently released to all customers (although it still installs parallel to the released version, as described above). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.
The 1.9.4 beta will have a performance focus as we circle back to clean up some inefficiencies which have crept in over time. If you notice performance improvements (or regressions!) over 1.9.3, or if you notice rendering bugs which appear to have been introduced in 1.9.4, please let us know.
Affinity Photo Team
Changes Since 1.9.3
- Added a new "median" mode to the frequency separation filter.
- The gradient map adjustment now has a GPU implementation.
- Restored the GPU rendering improvements which were dropped towards the end of the 1.9.2 beta. The benchmark version is once again set to 1920.
- Improve performance when manipulating the selected layer immediately after loading a document.
- Significant performance improvements in low-memory situations, reducing use of the swap file.
- Panorama stitching performance improvements.
- Significant performance improvements for documents which contain flattened, opaque layers (usually the result of merge visible).
- Render EXIF exposure time as decimal if above 1.
- Fixed F-number always showing as "f/0" for Leica M-series cameras (and others).
- Fixed issue whereby LUTs would incorrectly report "Identity" as the description.
- Fixed potential crash when quitting with layers still on the clipboard.
- Fixed performance issues with CMYK documents when GPU acceleration is enabled.
- Assorted small fixes.
- Localisation improvements.

Status: Customer Beta
Purpose: Fixes
Requirements: A valid product key (for Affinity Store purchases), or an installation of the full retail version from the Microsoft Store

This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing, including the total loss of any documents. We hope you enjoy the latest build, and as always, if you've got any problems, please don't hesitate to post a new thread in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Thanks once again for your continued feedback.

affinityfan reacted to Digitizer in Drag and drop layers from one document to another
Greetings,
I have found that I am unable to drag and drop layers from one document to another. I know that I can copy paste. But drag and drop feels more convenient.
Please consider this feature request. Thank you

No 3d stuff in AP please, if you need that please stay to PS.

affinityfan reacted to IdleJohn in 3D Option for Affinity Photo
Nooooooooo
There are many dedicated programs that do 3d painting very well. The last thing that Affinity needs is a worse implementation that just bloats the program unneccesarily. Keep it focused!

affinityfan reacted to Josh B in Shorcut to fill a selection (PS: ALT + Delete)
How come this thread dates back to 2015 and the shortcut that seems like it would be 5 minutes of code still hasn't been implemented? lol
I am trying to convert from PS for two weeks now and there's a few niggles in workflow speed. I'm down to 75 days left on my 90 day trial and lack of this hotkey would probably sway me to stick with PS sorry to say. I do love how Affinity Photo feels more native in performance than what PS has degraded too over the last few years but workflow speed is workflow speed. If I can flow with my jobs effortlessly then I do a better job. Being forced to spend more time and clicks doing something so simple causes disruption to my flow.
This thread has so much support for this hotkey lol. And not wanting to sound arrogant but seeing a staff member comment very early on back in 2015 and still not resolving this issue doesn't give me the best impression for further "feature" development. Take this as constructive criticism from someone using this software for 2 weeks professionally (5-8 hours a day heavy usage coming from a 19 year profession in using photo editing software). I know your strongest marketing point is Price and that's great but what about those who can afford PS for life too? Gotta hook me with something even if it's as small as a hotkey.

Hi,
Shift+F5 will open the Edit -> Fill tool - but I agree, a fast way to fill with primary / secondary would be useful..
Thanks,
Andy.

affinityfan reacted to Arceom in Temporary Node Tool from Pen Tool new behaviour conflicting with new one.
Previously when working with the Pen Tool you could hold Ctrl to temporarily switch to Node Tool, while in this form of Node Tool you could click over any part of an existing path to add a new node on that part of the path. Now in version 1.9, when you are in Pen Tool and hold Ctrl to change to Node Tool; is no longer possible to add nodes like in previous versions since the temporary Node Tool deletes the segment, which is a new behavior of the Node Tool. I'd like to a way to go to the previous behavior please.
