Affinity Not Responding

Dear Chaps,
I have recently purchased the latest version of Affinity 1.6 for my Mac which is running macOS High Sierra 10.13.2. Affinity won't open and then when I try and restart the computer it won't let because Affinity is running. Force quit doesn't allow me to close Affinity. So now I am trapped. How do I get out of this situation. Before this happened I did have the problem with Affinity that it became unstable when trying to load photos and it quit unexpectedly. Before that it was a great program and I was having fun learning how to use it.
What can I do?
