I regret buying the windows store version since i cannot use Affinity photo as an editor from many apps (ex Photolab) which is very important.
The saddest part is that Affinity Photo still not creating an execution alias as other UWP apps do.
Any chance to implement this Serif?

    This documentation should help:

I know the Store versions of Blender, LibreOffice, and InkScape make use of this manifest flag (because I sent them the documentation on this )

Other programs have made it happen:

It would be very helpful if the Affinity suite would register themselves here as well, so they can be called by other programs.

You can register Affinity Photo to have an App Execution Alias, which will allow command line operations to be done against it with ease. A few "core" MS apps support this already, and a number of other released apps do as well. I can't find the documentation at present, but I believe it is only a modification to the app's manifest file to accomplish this.
Big gain for a small investment from you, Serif.

    Here's an example:

Funny you mention that, GreyEyes.  I've also been waiting for the Affinity apps to catch up to the Plus apps in options and abilities.  Especially one that I used for years (I won't mention the name here) that doesn't (and won't) have an Affinity version and was left behind.
But I do like where they're going with the Affinity apps, just going to take time I guess...

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in Help > About Affinity Designer).
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the Affinity Store software it will check for updates and offer any available update. The latest update will install over the top of any earlier version, with no need to uninstall. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Designer for Windows) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key).
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.

Saijin_Naib reacted to BMB in Macros Suggestions
I'm really loving Affinity Photo so far and it's well on its way to replacing photoshop entirely on my toolset, but there's a couple of limitations on the macros system that are stopping me. I have a ton of automated actions in photoshop that allow me to open up several files, tell one action to go, and a bunch of stuff happens across all those documents without me needing to do anything else. This saves me a good 15 or so minutes of manual work, and I have to do this often enough that I can't really afford to not have that. Here's some suggestions on what I think would make the macros system really powerful:
    - copy should be available as a macro action. It's really weird that it isn't, and for me that's really weird because if I want to make macros that allow me to transfer content from document to document, I have to cut off the macro at a certain point, tab over, and manually paste before running a different macro entirely. However,
    - Even the cut function should put that information on a reusable clipboard. Going off the example above, it's bizarre that when I tab into a different document I have to manually paste the newly copied information because if the macro I made earlier has a paste function in it, it'll just paste whatever happened to be in the clip board at the time of me making the macro and not the new content I just copied.
    - Should go without saying but closing and tabbing between documents should also be available functions so I can let one macro do all the work across files rather than needing to set up a dozen individual macros and then manually tab and run macros for each individual file. Not exactly the most appealing option when I'm trying to make changes to 20+ files at the time.
    - "Edit Macros" in the library panel is super limited at this point. You can't reorder the functions, so most of the time just making the same macro from scratch is the easiest and fastest way to actually get the result I want. The little panel where you can manually edit certain functions like transform are super neat, but they mean nothing if you can't, for instance, copy those functions into a different Macro if you need them replicated elsewhere.
I know development takes a long time and these features won't show up for a while, if ever, but I hope the macros feature gets patched up somehow at some point since atm it's the only thing keeping me from making a full transition. Other than that, though, I love the program!

I see the point. I prefer 3:2 ratio and shoot my images in that. Now it's "unconstrained" everytime.
Saving the last used selection should not be too hard. I'm sure this is a low hanging fruit.

V1.7 Beta still does not remember Crop Tool settings or allow a favourite Crop Tool setting.
    Very disappointing.
I have not bothered using V1.6.5 because of this omission, and will certainly not be using V1.7 (when it is released) unless this feature has been included.
At present, using this product to crop a batch of photographs to, say, 6"x4" is an inefficient and time-wasting process.

Saijin_Naib reacted to DarkClown in Window handling and workflow
Open Topics and suggestions - only related to window handling and workflow (checked with Beta 1.7.0.209)
    1) When you drag & drop a file from the windows explorer on the AP Icon or framework please:
open it in an undocked new window (elsewise no second drag an drop is possible unless you float the first window)!    if possible in 1:1 Zoom (not enlarged to windows size as it is done right now)    please adapted windows size of undocked window to fit the original file 2) If you drang and drop a file from Explorer into an open AP document it gets added as a layer but since it does not get dropped centered and mostly outside the picture area of the first layer one can not find this newly added layer anywhere. It seems to be vanished somewhere outside the boundaries of the existing picture.
    3) When you float one or all windows please make the floating window(s) fit the picture in the current zoom level (optimal windows size) - if it fits in the workspace.
    4) If a window is larger than the original document (regardless if docked or floating) please automatically center the document within the new window (and disable the view tool in this window). If you resize a floating window smaller than the document: dock the document at the top left corner.
Maybe it makes sense to implement a general setting "Always center documents when smaller than window". If a document is smaller than the window there is no need to be able to move the document within the window. One could avoid accidentally "loosing" the document in "outer space" if it would always be centered in the docked window (if smaller than the window)
    5) When you work with docked and floating windows in combination you can't bring the docked window to the front. This is a general problem. It could be solved by only allowing docked or floating windows mode but no mixture. Floating windows can be brought to the front.
    6) All Zoom tools (e.g. 100% / 200% / actual size etc.) should as well center the document in the window.
    7) It would be nice to arrange all floating windows optimized on the workspace (e.g. horizontal, vertical, tiled) with one click (menu command)
    8) Also nice to have: additional information of document size (height/width in current units somewhere at the windowsframe of a document)
    9) If I undock many documents why do they cascade at the top right(?) corner of my screen?
    10) Drag and Drop of layers between documents should be possible
    11) Would be nice to individually be able to save the workspace (setting of panels, content of toolbars, position of all panels and toolbars, docked or floating windows)

    Bugs:
    - AP crashes sometimes when you drag and drop from explorer or undock a window
    - Resizing a window bby grabbing its frame causes a significant delay (the window frame follows some seconds later the movement of the mouse) - Seems like AP is so busy with permanently calculating the content of the window that the frame can't follow the mouse quick enough. The problem seems to be significantly less when you resize at the top left corner in comparison to the bottom right corner.
Most of the above refers to Affinity Designer as well!

    Cheers, Timo

You have that four buttons for "Auto Levels", "Auto Contrast", "Auto Colors" and "Auto White Balance" that desctructive change your selected pixel layer.
I think it's an questionable omission that the adjustment filters, for e.g. the White Balance one, has only a picker, but no "Auto" button.
Photoshop Elements 12 for example has "Auto" buttons in adjustment layers. So I think it's a legit thing to ask for.
EDIT: I found this was asked before:

I just saw this: You likely want to say that ACR opens these RAWs in 4-5 seconds with Photoshop (as the host program for the RAW processor) not yet running, right? With PS already running, I would be surprised if you had to wait at all - ACR CS6 here opens dozens of images without any delay...
To be fair one really needs to say that there's currently a huge performance difference between Photoshop and Affinity Photo in RAW handling. Affinity Photo lets you wait for every single RAW file - even with the program already running. And obviously one should not even consider working on a dozen or more RAW files at once, as easily doable with Photoshop.
