  1. Thanks Toltec, I found it. Good suggestion for Designer devs to put the bleed settings in the Create New Document dialog too?
  2. I'm having an issue where my artwork extends outside the canvas, however when I export the PDF with bleed, there's no where to set the bleed. Is the bleed set via the "Margins" ? That seems to be the only thing that I can find in relation to the document/canvas (using both latest RC versions of Designer and Photo).
  3. Would really love this layer blending effect. Would make things much easier when applying layer styles like colour/gradient overlay set to dissolve for texturing shapes. Having to make manual masks is time consuming.
  4. Add me to the list of wanting BMP support. In fact, the more image formats you can support exporting to the better.
  5. +1 this feature. When harddrive space is low, having a folder of 1gb JPGs being copied/embedded into a 1gb+ afdesign file is not ideal. Being able to select individual images to switch between embedded/linked could be nice too. There will admittedly be architecture and UX complexities (when file is externally updated, might need user to instigate refreshing image link, like InDesign), but just the base feature with a right-mouse "reload link..." could be nice enough.
  6. Would be great to have it natively supported in Affinity Designer. Thanks @obtusity for the quick workaround.
  7. I'm unsure if I'm using Designer properly (and it would be frustrating if it's not as intuitive as I thought) but I'm trying to get overprint to happen in my document. I've added my colours as global and checked the overprint option. I export to a PDF and then print it and none of the overprinted colours are actually being overprinted. Is there also a way to preview the overprint in Designer? Aside from manually setting layer blend mode to something like "multiply" (cheap & not-accurate trick).
  8. Invision has Craft which is a suite of plugins for Photoshop and Sketch. To have some kind of API to build plugins for AD would be amazing and would allow it to interop better with a wide variety of applications & services. Sketch's benefit is that it is highly pluggable, and I think AD needs it to be competitive (I'm getting annoyed having to restart AD everytime I enable a font via my font management software).
  9. Is it possible that this "Rasterise to Mask..." could be included in the right-mouse context menu when clicking a layer? I use it a lot and it's annoying having to always go up to the "Layer > Rasterise as Mask..." option. When I right-click a layer it only has "Rasterise..." option (and probably why I didn't find it in my travels earlier).
  10. Cool, thanks for that @MEB. I knew there'd be something, just wasn't sure where.
  11. I've selected a black and white pixel layer (no transparent pixels) with the mask tool, copied to clipboard (CMD + C), then edit a mask layer and trying to paste in the copied pixel layer data but it only keeps pasting a new Pixel layer instead of pasting the image data into the mask I'm editing. To me this isn't ideal behaviour! What am I doing wrong?
  12. My expected behaviour of exporting an artboard is that the slice should match the artboard size, not the artwork size in the artboard. If my artboard is 100x100 and the artwork is 101x101, then I want the slice to be the artboard's dimension.
  13. I too would love an Animation persona in Affinity Designer. It doesn't need the timeline abilities like Photoshop (yet) but supporting frame-by-frame animation and exporting animated GIFs would be a great start.
  14. I'm in the "New Batch Job..." window, but it's missing a "Save to PSD" option. Please add! Or at least let me do batch exports based on an export preset...
  15. I guess my point about the shortcut is that it was a shortcut to fill with the primary colour or with the secondary color. I get the fill dialog when holding down FN + SHIFT + F5, but maybe if I could remap each direct fill operation (rather than choose from the prompt) it could be nicer...
  16. Somewhat awkward on a Macbook Pro and having to hold down FN too if function keys aren't set by default. I would argue that Affinity Designer supports the Pixel persona, so should still be equally focused on pixel based operations as much as vector. I did try with the flood fill tool, however if there is any existing image data then issues can arise. @Alfred: yes, you are right, however I wasn't sure if it was a supported feature or not, but I guess it still should have gone to the questions area.
  17. In Photoshop I can press CMD/ALT + Backspace to fill the current mask selection (or whole layer) with either the background/foreground colour. Currently I haven't been able to find the same in Affinity Designer! Anyone know how I can do this?
  18. I still get inconsistent behaviour with artboards and copy-pasting. Sometimes the pasted object matches the position of the copied object on the artboard I copied from, other times it only matches either the X or Y position. At the moment it is confusing and inconsistent.
  19. I consistently have issues with the App Store on mac, probably because I was living in Australia and now I'm in France. I'd like to have my license which I purchased through the app store on my Australian iCloud account managed as a self-install, away from the app store ecosystem (it really is a mega pain in the ass). Is this possible?
  20. After accidentally discovering the assets (hello there, left side studio menu!) I've started integrating it into my workflow. I like too that I can define symbols and define them as assets, and the symbol is imported into the document when I add the asset to the canvas. It means I can have a lot of control over what assets are symbols and make any consistent changes across all the symbols within that design file. Now that I've been using the asset functionality creating categories, subcategories and adding the assets themselves, I have a few suggestions for extra functionality/improvement: Visually mark in collection if asset is a symbol Ability to turn asset in collection into a symbol (in right-mouse click asset item context menu; maybe ability to detach as well is good) Update asset in collection with selected object on canvas (in right-mouse click asset item context menu). It's a pain having to delete the asset, then re-add the asset if I've made any minor changes I found there were times I was trying to drag the object's layer into the asset collection and it wouldn't work — I had to drag the object on the canvas itself into the asset collection I also had another idea for symbols to support variations on properties/nested objects. I'd like to have a button design which I can have as a symbol, but can change the text of the button to something else that is not carried across all other symbols. Maybe that could be another button option in the symbol menu that I can select the object I want to be variable and mark it within the symbol?
  21. One feature Freehand used to have was the ability to paste shapes into text areas. I'd love to be able to design an icon or special bullet shape and then paste it into an artistic or frame text layer and have it flow according to the character/paragraph/tab rules. It's been many years since I last used Freehand, so I can't remember if it was possible to scale the shape when it was within the text area, but having some way to do that either by hand (or via the text area options, e.g. setting the font size) would be trés cool, indeedio. I would assume that any inline shape pasted into a text area should be controlled by the character properties (e.g. changing the font-size value would scale up or down based on the shape's height; changing the baseline up/down would move the shape in the text field up or down). Interested in hearing other ideas for development!
  22. Thanks for the explanation MEB. Would be great for future consideration to implement. I've seen similar behaviour like I mentioned in programs like Sketch and Axure RP, if you guys need real-world examples to play with.
  23. Affinity Designer already supports multiple pages, inserting images, character/paragraph styles, and tab stops, with the extra bonus of symbols and all the drawing/illustration tools at hand. You've got the basics of an awesome DTP program right there!
  24. I'm sure somewhere on this whole forum is a big discussion about Affinity Designer's decision and recounted inconsistencies about how it handles SHIFT + <resize object>. I'm sorry if I've tread into an already well-debated topic with a new thread. While I believe the original Affinity idea and implementation is that proportional resizing is almost always used so it should be the default (therefore SHIFT + <resize object> performs the action non-proportionally). However, I find the implementation across different types of use cases in AD is extraordinarily inconsistent. In fact, when I try to recount the different use cases, I can't remember if they scale proportionally or not because of the inconsistencies and variety of use cases. At the most basic level, it seems really inconsistent that a group is sized proportionally, but a shape (rectangle, circle, etc.) isn't. Turning a shape into a symbol then makes the default resizing action behave proportionally. Layers and groups are symbolically the same, so their resize behaviour seems the same too. However an artboard (effectively similar as it holds objects) is not resized the same as a layer/group (holding down shift and resizing the artboard does it proportionally). Images and text are sized proportionally. Drawings (i.e. with the pen/pencil tool) are not sized proportionally. If the default proportional resizing action is to <resize object> WITHOUT holding down shift, then it should be carried across all use cases, making holding down SHIFT + <resize object> resize non-proportionally. User experience-wise, I don't like having to keep track & adjust for the inconsistent behaviour — it is not intuitive nor consistent and causes friction. I just want non-proportional resizing when not holding down SHIFT, and when holding down SHIFT for the resizing to be proportional. Is it possible to have this as an option in the app?
