Gilescooperuk got a reaction from nickbatz in A couple of printing queries
When I use the preset option it doesn't save the booklet printing option on the profile.
I need to have a look again when I have more time.
Regarding the rotating prints - I normally need to print around 80 of these. The worst thing is it is not consistent occasionally it prints the first test page a different way round - must be something to do with the canon drivers.
BTW all my computer are Adobe free zones - I don't use any Adobe products on any machine....

Gilescooperuk reacted to EddCh in [Poll] Do you need a DAM? And what should it be like?
Aperture, for image management, is still (IMHO) king. There just isn't anything available that can do what it can do with ease and speed… and then there's the Light Table feature, which is still unique (within the world of photo editing/management apps) to Aperture.
Despite Aperture being killed off by Apple years ago, I still keep it running happily on a dedicated older Mac to maintain a massive library of edited/completed images. Whilst Capture One has taken over the batch image processing duties, its image management abilities are shockingly bad in comparison to Aperture.
Every time an image editing/management app has been released or got updated, the feeling of disappointment continues as all the developers seem to concentrate on nowadays are new features that might create headlines or outdo their competitors. Feels a bit like the car manufacturers game of chasing stupid horsepower or acceleration figures. I really wish someone, anyone (I no longer care if Serif/Affinity can/will do this or not, but great if they can/will), would come up with a proper image management alternative to Aperture that goes beyond just the basics.

Gilescooperuk reacted to WN1X in Affinity Photo (+ Designer and Publisher) will not update to 1.10.1 from 1.9.3 unless I turn off my VPN
The idea that VPN provides security for browsing is false--the only thing it does is to hide your IP address from your destination and provide an encrypted channel for sites that do not use HTTPS. That's it. In a work environment VPN allows access to an internal LAN.
If the Affinity updates are failing when connected with VPN, it is something your VPN provider is doing to block the traffic. I would ask them.

Gilescooperuk got a reaction from R C-R in Graphics in forum posts loading painfully slowly when using the Safari browser
Just tried the link on my Mac running Mojave with Safari 14 took about 10 seconds to load.

Gilescooperuk got a reaction from Fixx in Affinity Photo DAM
As it is a Mac program it is probably using the OS features to preview the afphoto files, as OSX can preview the file (just select it and hit the spacebar) in the later version by default - it works on my Mac running Mojave

Hey guys,
as a first video on my new channel, I created a tutorial for a basic astrophotography editing workflow in Photo. Hope some of you will find this helpful - any feedback appreciated!

Gilescooperuk reacted to MEB in [Implemented] Data merge
Hi petrpastor,
Welcome to Affinity Forums
We do take community feedback seriously but it doesn't mean we can fulfil all requests as soon/fast as people would like - even in two years. Affinity Publisher is on its infancy. There's still various areas that need some work (integration with the other two apps, file presets/templates, linked/embedded file management, PDF import/export improvements, preflight etc (besides bugs to fix) until we can add more features. As explained several times we have limited resources compared to other known companies and are also developing a design/vector application and RAW developer/photo editing app at the same time for three different platforms alongside with Publisher, not Publisher alone. All this requires time. I think the teams have achieved quite a lot considering some years ago there was nothing at all. Please bear with us.

You say
What is the point of "the BIGGEST!! selling point" if not to make money by selling it (of which you apparently disapprove see below)
Stop insulting us to our faces. Shouting, swearing and insults are against the Guidelines you have agreed to
Besides....
and
We are not a democracy, sorry.

Gilescooperuk reacted to Friksel in Wow Studiolink!
Before the announcement I thought the idea to switch between apps was a great idea, but now we see how we really can work in the same workflow instantly is much better than I could imagine. Actually a very briljant idea!
I say; Adobe eat your heart out! Next year 3 milion Affinity users.
Thanks Serif for this Studiolink idea! This is indeed a great timesaver and makes everything even more fun to work with!! I'm so glad I once made the switch to use products made by this enthousiastic and clearly passionate team with a great vision!

Gilescooperuk reacted to fde101 in Glad to see the Suite completed
It's not complete. No DAM, web page designer, animation software, CAD, imposition tool, universal wireless battery charger remote control...
They will soon have the big three though.

Gilescooperuk got a reaction from jmwellborn in No to paper printout
What a strange opinion. Taken to its conclusion we can only assume the author does not own any books, reads any physical magazines or newspapers, or even buy fish and chips......
(looks round room) I can see about 30 magazines (photography, cars, sci-do) several hundred books, bills, letters operating manuals, framed photos and a box of tissues all of which are made of paper. And outside is a recycling bins full of newspapers and surplus flyers.
paper is fully recycled and my newspapers will potentially come back to me in a few weeks when the new ones are printed.
each to their own but it seems a strange opinion to me

Gilescooperuk reacted to garrettm30 in Publisher Beta Released Far too Early
This one comment, as others have pointed out, was the clue to me that you are not actually looking for beta software.
As a more general response, whether you want to label this as beta or something closer to an alpha, the truth is that the way it was opened up to the community has allowed the community to have much input in the direction of development of the app prior to its official launch. The different beta versions have shown many hundreds (or thousands even) of changes and improvements because Serif has asked for and listened to feedback from the community.
If that is not what you are looking for, then you should probably skip the beta altogether and wait for the first "finished" product, or even better, the second or third release as it matures. For the rest of us, we are grateful that we can have a part in development of an app that in the end will be more useful to us because we could be in communication with the developers.

Gilescooperuk got a reaction from iMatt in Photoplus canon magazine
Well it appeared to work, got my subscriber copy yesterday and there is a getting started with affinity article, two pages and it is hard to find (very small reference on the content page), but the reckon it is the start of a series.
issue 151 pages 64-65

Gilescooperuk got a reaction from cubesquareredux in Reordering Pages .249
I can't see that line - probably to do with being colour blind it fades into the background.
Switching to the dark UI I can see it. (although I prefer the light background on the workspace).
So looking at a dark background I can see the line appear either on the left, right or in the middle.
Might be a problem for other colour blind users...
Thanks

Gilescooperuk got a reaction from Pauls in Booklet Printing .249
I found the built in feature File -> Print, choose document layout, and change to booklet - and it work perfectly.
That resolves that problem for me.
Thanks
-
Gilescooperuk reacted to fde101 in Booklet Printing .249
Publisher has a built-in booklet feature.
The one you are looking at in those screenshots appears to be a feature of your printer driver, it is not the one built-in to Publisher.
If they both got turned on at the same time they could be confusing each other.

Gilescooperuk reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Publisher Release discussion (split)
Well.... oh no that would be a spoiler. There are some important ones still to come some soon. They will need to pass internal testing. Whether they make it into the release of Affinity Publisher 1.7, I expect they will be in the release before too long.
You know that those who have not followed this beta process (the majority of the world) will look at the 1.7.0 release and pick on one 'missing' feature they are used to in a 20+ year old product and dismiss the whole program without an understanding of where we are going with this suite, or that 1.x free updates can include new features as well as fixes. We may depend upon social media followers and forum regulars who undestand how far we have come, how quickly and our ambitions, to suggest to doubters that a little patience will be rewarding.

Gilescooperuk reacted to CliveH in Multi-page table?
I want to create a table which spreads over 2 or 3 pages but can't find any way to do this. I'd assumed I could link 2 tables, in a similar manner to text frames, but it doesn't seem possible. Am I just stuck manually splitting the data over 2 or 3 separate tables?
Thanks

Gilescooperuk got a reaction from walt.farrell in Table column resizing
Yes it does work. I didn't realise you needed to double click on the table to bring up the headers.
I was expecting it to work similar to another program where the column widths could be changed just by dragging the cell borders around.
Thanks
-
Gilescooperuk reacted to walt.farrell in Table column resizing
You should be able to edit column widths directly in the table. At least I can, on Windows. With the table frame selected, and the column headers showing, position the mouse cursor over the column edge you want to adjust, and when it becomes a double-ended arrow you can drag right or left to shrink or enlarge the column.

Gilescooperuk reacted to 001 in [Implemented] Data merge
+1 BIG TIME for data merge. Frankly, without it, there is really no reason to move to an affinity publisher platform from my current workflow.
To date, Designer and Photo have served my needs very well. I started with Designer and after a few weeks use there, Photo was happily purchased. If Publisher debuts without data merge, I will just have to wait patiently until the feature is added; Publisher would will not be an automatic purchase.
I truly believe that you will be shooting yourself in your foot if you launch a software application targeting professionals and advanced hobbyists/amateurs without a top-notch, innovative, and user-friendly data merge capability. In the circles I create, this feature alone could set you apart and drive demand from hundreds of users to your software.
Best of luck with your project.
Cheers

This may have something to do with the other bug report on this page in that the previous file has an image inside the master page.
