Hi all. Thanks for your patience over the weekend when our offices were closed.

We've had a meeting this morning and decided to offer MSI installers to those people who would like them. I can't tell you when this will happen, as there is engineering work that will be required to allow this to happen, but we hope it won't be long.

    Thanks for your feedback!

    Thanks for the update.

Even though I got the app moved and working.
I still prefer to have control of drive/folder location and whether I want to update or not at each update notice.
So, I would use the MSI over the app. Thanks

  2. Well, against my better judgement. Installed the apps and moved them to another drive. They are working

Hoping that everything will work when updates come.

They should, but I have never been a fan of windows apps. Still ain't.

Even though Inkscape has better features, it does run a little clunky.

But hey, they have bitmaps tracing!! Hope we see that from affinity before v3

Have you read my FAQ? It shows how to move.

I was not talking about after moving it on whether it can be updated after being moved. I know once its moved its moved,

If you remember, you were the one that showed me I could move it. Don't u remember?

And, I was talking about having the option to select drive (or folder) when I initially installed.
I was answering somebody else who said they were given that option.

What questions about updates. When there is an update it will be installed no matter what drive you elected it to be installed on. From what I understand updating the app is easier than updating a normally installed program and both the app & the 'program' are exactly the same except with apps you can't mess about with the program files.

Sorry, but there is no word from Affinity of this fact yet if you move to another drive.

Quite simply, I want control over my installed programs and also the location and permissions of the files.

Precisely. I have to have installation control to manage SSD space.

I guess Affinity don't care about losing customers.

That tells me everything I need to know.

Another company going the way of Adobe. Its sad.

If @Patrick Connor is referring to the comment I think he is it involved a completely new install in another directory so come update time the Serif update routine would not update it. Even the poster accepted that future updates could mean having to redo the hack every update which would defeat the object.

Yeah, and this is why "Moving" the app to another drive instead of SSD is a no-no for me.
I have to limit what is installed on my small SSD and I don't want to have to do these work arounds every time there is an update.

We need more info for people who need to move the apps to another drive that also creates a "WindowsApp" locked folder.

Agreed with this, as a customer I couldn't care less about what Microsoft wants.

It's ridiculous that the method of installation has consequences beyond the install process and a utility (aflauncher) is being worked on to act as a quick and dirty workaround for one of them to address it. It sure seems like the MSIX installer is creating more issues then it's solving and is wasting time that could be spent elsewhere.

    "MSIX promises a 99.9% success rate. "
Operating on a promise and developing with the cutting edge is a dangerous move.

I've submitted a refund request, v2 has a few changes and features that I like but I can stick with v1 if this install procedure is going to be way moving forward. In hindsight I should have tried the trial first.

Yeah, I went back to v1 as I migrate to Inkscape, Sribus and Gimp.
Then I am done with Affinity.

I never thought of doing the Trial because..

    1) I assumed that Affinity was EXE installs, not window apps.
They didn't even tell us this was going to happen.
Back a few years, Adobe did a similar thing in not telling users that their program would only work on Windows 10.
Made a lot of people mad because they didn't announce it and lots of users installed to only find out it wouldn't work on Windows 8.

    2) Their wasn't any ground breaking new features, so, why would I need to try it first.

    This is so lame.

  8. I just reinstalled v2 to test.
It does have a Move button in Settings on Windows 10.

However, you still can't specify where it goes.

It automatically creates a WindowsApp folder, with locked permission.

So, that means on every update you have to go through this process of "moving" it.

Still not I want to be done. HATEIT

  9. I totally agree with Keith's remarks.

    ... I don't want Alias'
... I want to be able to control my install path at install time
... I shouldn't have to use "Move" in settings (haven't seen that I can do a move in Windows 10 with v2 yet)
... This is a PC not an App device
... Who cares what MS has to say.
... Most bad installs either are Affinity issues or Users who don't take care of their PC's health

    Ridiculous!

  10. I for one HATE the app route only because of my small SSD drive, I have to limit what I can install on it. That is why I got a refund on v2.

However, I can still use v1 like before, so that is one work around.

Let's be truthful here. v2 is a an okay update, but nothing supper special.
I mean, I like the warp feature in AD, but Inkscape already has a much better implementation to warping.

But, I am deciding to take another new root. As I did with Adobe and going to do with Affinity.
i am turning to free alternatives and then I will delete Affinty from off my pC.

    1) Inscape (which has awesome warping functions... better than AD) - replaces Designer
    2) Krita or Gimp or Paint.net - replaces Photo
    3) Scibus or VivaDesigner - replaces Publisher

The reason I chose Affinity after dumping Adobe was the non-subscription model.
I think the apps were pretty good and stable.

Now, I am not happy that I have to now dump Affinity because of this ridiculous move to "app" structure.
But, I have InkScape, Gimp and Scribus to replace them.

I am mostly a vector guy, and Inkscape is pretty good to.
Now that Inkscape has pages, you can also use inkscape to do DTP.
Inkscape also has Vector Tracing which AD don't.

Its to bad, that another company does dumb stuff like Adobe does dumb stuff.
Just don't understand why companies shoot themselves in the foot and are willing to lose customers over it.
    Just don't make sense.

  11. I have to watch what apps are installed on my SSD.

Installing v2 doesn't allow me to install to another hard drive.

Tried the suggested "Setting" change to change location of content, but still installs to SSD.

WHY DID YOU CHANGE THIS. I HATE IT!!!!

You just pulled an Adobe stunt. That's why I ditched them. Trying to do APP things on a PC is A BIG NO NO!!!!

I guess if there is no solution. I am getting a refund and going back to v1.

Or I may just go back to CorelDraw or Inkscape and ditch you too.

Seriously... what who thought to do this!?

Now how do change my install location since there is no EXE???

  12. This is just a test. I am working on changing skin color file eventually.

All the tutorials I have seen (without using Adjustment layers) says to just select forecolor, select color replacement tool and paint.

In the test, Orange should be replaced with Black... but it is gray.

So, there is a setting somewhere that is causing the gray.

If you have never used this function. How will you know.

I appreciate that you want to help. But, I need to know what is wrong
