Hi All,
We have just made a new build available of the 2.4 beta live - version 2.4.0.2240 - which will be available to you on auto update shortly. The fix list for this build is here.

In addition to those fixes we have made a couple of tweaks to insertion target locking based on your feedback:
You can now choose to lock your insertion target to insert inside your selection. All lock insertion options can now be applied on iPad via a long press on the relevant option, in addition to alt-click. Thanks as always for your continued feedback!

If you are already enrolled in the beta program you have two options:
1. If you still have the 2.3 beta installed, you can now run up those beta versions and you will be prompted to update them to the 2.3 beta.
2. If you have uninstalled the 2.3 beta, you will need to go back to Your Account -> Downloads and product keys and find your previous order for the Affinity Beta Software Program, and you can download the 2.4 beta from there.

I’m pleased to say that we have just be pushed 2.3.1 (2212) to beta and plan a full 2.3.1 release next week (if nothing new & significant is found). There are only a limited number of fixes as detailed in my post here. 
We think it's important to address a few high customer impact bugs quickly in a 2.3.1 release, in a fast/stable manner.
The release of 2.4.0 with improvements and features and many other fixes will likely take a while to be "release ready" (need a longer beta testing cycle due to having more significant code changes). We have been internally testing 2.4.0 and so @Serif Info Bot has been posting about fixes found in 2.4.0.xxxx, and those fixes will be appearing in the next release cycle, not 2.3.1
With that in mind we will be starting 2.4.0 beta very shortly (hopefully in just a couple of weeks). Looking forward to seeing you all on here for that!

We are planning to release a 2.3.1 patch to address a handful of important things and then start 2.4.0 beta.
We think it's important to address a few high customer impact bugs quickly in a 2.3.1 release, in a fast/stable manner.
The release of 2.4.0 with improvements and features and many fixes will likely take a while to be "release ready" (need a longer beta testing cycle due to having more significant code changes).
We have builds for both 2.3.1 and 2.4.0 in internal testing at the moment. I would expect these to both be with you in the next week or two.

New version! I have uploaded a new version of this unofficial Publisher manual to the first post of this thread. In addition to being updated for the changes in Publisher 2.3, this version covers character and paragraph formatting, text styles, and all the other text-related features. It is 120 pages longer than the original version.
Although it's written for Publisher, most of the text features are the same for Designer or Photo so you may find it useful for the other Affinity applications, too.

I’m pleased to say that we will be pushing 2.3 live to retail this morning. The beta versions were updated yesterday to the same build (2.3.0.2165) as detailed in Patrick’s post here. This means the beta versions are in effect exactly the same as the retail versions we will push so you can keep them installed if you wish. 
As always it’s been a pleasure working with you all on this release and cannot thank you enough for all the bug reports and other feedback you have given. I mentioned at the start of this beta we are working towards a shorter cadence between updates to help us release improvements and bug fixes sooner - and I hope you agree this has worked very well.
With that in mind we will be starting 2.4 beta very shortly (hopefully in just a couple of weeks). Looking forward to seeing you all on here for that!

Known Issues -
French (Canadian), French (Belgium), French (Luxembourg) & French (Swiss)
When importing text from external apps, such as Word or LibreOffice, that use these languages, Affinity will show a warning for a missing dictionary.
From our research, individual Spelling/Hyphenation dictionaries do not exist online for these languages, so instead it appears as though these third party apps will simply use a French (French) dictionary in order to provide Spelling/Hyphenation support, assumedly through the use of symlinks.
As the Affinity apps don't currently support symlinks for dictionaries, we instead recommend manually installing the French dictionaries from the above provided links, but changing the Language code of the downloaded files and folders as required.
For example, if you see a warning regarding a missing fr_CA (French (Canadian)) dictionary when importing text, please download the above fr.aff, fr.dic & hyph_fr.dic files.
Once downloaded, rename these files to fr_CA.aff, fr_CA.dic & hyph_fr_CA.dic respectively and then add them to the required location/language folder on your OS, using the above instructions.
These steps are also true for the other languages listed above, substituting the language code (fr_CA, fr_BE, fr_LU or fr_CH) as required.
Once you have installed the French dictionary files using these language codes, you should find the relevant Spelling/Hyphenation options can now be selected in Affinity and the missing dictionary warning is no longer shown.
German (Swiss), German (Austrian) & Belorussian
When downloading dictionaries for the above languages, some of these files have filenames which require amending.
For German (Swiss) and German (Austrian), the files are suffixed with '_frami'.
For Belarussian, the files are suffixed with '_official'.
Before installing the dictionaries for these languages, we recommend deleting these suffixes and not including them within the language code for any folders created.
For example:
German Swiss files are named 'de_CH_frami'. After downloading, rename the file(s) to 'de_CH'  and create the folder using this code.
Belarussian files are named 'be_official'. After downloading, rename the file(s) to 'be' and create the folder using this code.

(In Safari, select Download Linked File As... but do not select Download Linked File or .txt will be appended to the filename.)

I should say in general we are now aiming to do slightly smaller updates more regularly than before so we can test and release in smaller chunks. This will allow us to get improvements and fixes out quicker, as well as having overall benefit to the stability of the apps.
The beta phase will now be shorter (4-6 weeks) for any update, and for that reason we will be avoiding any significant changes to functionality during beta as we focus on fixing bugs and correcting unintentional behaviour. This does mean that more of your improvement suggestions may need to wait until a future update (e.g. like some of the Move Data Entry suggestions you made during 2.2 beta which have now been added to 2.3), but please keep those suggestions coming!

This post is designed to be an aid to knowing if you are using the latest version of Affinity Version 2 applications on your platform.  The thread is now locked so if you "follow" it you will know then we release a new version on any platform. If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update. For the macOS release, in the application main menu there is an option "Check for Updates". Alternatively, you can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Updates are installed automatically (or manually by installing the new version over the old) Previous builds do not need uninstalling first. New installations of paid software downloaded from the Affinity Store requires LICENSE ACTIVATION to use.
Software downloaded from the Mac App Store, Microsoft Store and iPad store do not require a license activation and are updated through the relevant store: 
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. However, you do need to be logged in with the same Apple ID you used to buy them. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.
If you’ve purchased from the Pad Store— Your Affinity iPad apps should update automatically next time you run them. However, you do need to be logged in with the same Apple ID you used to buy them. If the automatic update does not happen for you, go to the iPad Store app and go to Updates. Once you’re there, tap near the top of the screen where it states 'Updates' and then hold, pull down and then release. This should manually refresh the updates page. However, don’t contact us if the updates are not available for you yet—Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world and this can take up to 24 hours.

Hi Colin, sorry to hear you feel that way—as far as I'm aware, however, you can watch YouTube videos without needing to create an account or sign in. The videos are all demonetised so there are no adverts that will encroach on the content.

Is there a full manual I can purchase? No, this is all there is. Is this really free? Yes, I'm making it available free of charge. It's copyrighted to prevent others from publishing it as their own. Is there an iPad version? No, the steps and screenshots are for the macOS and Windows versions. Is there a version for Designer or Photo? No, but the text features are largely the same so you may find it useful. Why does it use a print layout if it's a PDF? We have just made 2.2 live across all App Stores and our website. As always, the feedback we have received from you all during this beta has been an incredible help in both shaping the new features as well as squashing many bugs!
The build we have released is the same as RC3 (build 2005), meaning for the time being whether you use the latest beta version or switch to using the release version they are the same. If you anticipate taking part in the next beta you may wish to keep your current beta version installed, as this will be updated on auto update when a new beta is available. This will either be a 2.2 patch if we feel one is needed, or moving straight onto a 2.3 beta.
It would be impossible for us to do what we do without your support, and I just wanted to say a huge thanks for everything you have contributed to this release.

For any date fields you can now apply your own custom formats to them. For example below a current date & time field has been added. If you right click on the field / long press on iPad and choose "Edit Field" you will now have the option to switch between preset formats, or include your own custom format:

A new beta build is rolling out now - version number 2.2.0.1954 - which will be available to you on auto update within the next hour.

We consider this build feature complete in terms of 2.2 release, with future beta builds now only including bug fixes or very minor tweaks.

Main changes in this build are:
Move data entry now includes rotation option. In object creation tools where Enter previously invoked the create dialog, this now always invokes the Move dialog. So for example in a shape tool, Enter now brings up the Move dialog. cmd / ctrl + click is what needs to be used to invoke shape data entry. We have added new default shortcuts in both the Photo and Pixel personas for fill with primary / secondary colour. We've added that to the Brush shortcuts feature description. Fill with primary colour: Alt + backspace Fill with secondary colour: cmd/Ctrl + backspace "Fit to curve delete node" option now added to the right click node menu (i.e. the same result as Alt-Delete) PDF password feature now removed Alt modifier to get hand in text tool now removed
  This build also includes many fixes.

We have just begun rolling out a new beta build - version number 2.2.0.1931 - which should become available to you on auto-update over the next hour
Three new features are included in this build:
Object creation data entry Move tool data entry OCIO v2 support added And some other feature improvements which are worth drawing your attention to:
Find and Replace now includes the additional scope options of 'Section" and 'Page' 'Hide Effects" and "Greyscale' view mode options are now available as optional toolbar buttons. Additionally these view modes (as well as all other Designer view mode options previously only available in Designer) have now been added to Publisher. You can now both insert anchors and link to them from data merge fields. There are also a lot of fixes which have gone in since the last build which will be listed on the bug fix list post .
Important: PDF Password feature
While this build does include many fixes for PDF password, we have decided to drop this feature from 2.2. The feature is still available in this build, but will be removed in the next one. For that reason we're going to hide the feature thread and ask that no more reports are made on this feature. 
Apologies if this causes some disappointment, but we feel we need a little more time to solve some of the problems being reported. We certainly anticipate this will be available again at the start of the 2.3 beta and that it can make the 2.3 release.

Thank you for all your feedback so far on the 2.2 beta.
We have just made a new build live - version 2.2.0.1903 (is rolling out now, should be available over the next hour or so).
There are a few new features in this build to draw your attention to:
Custom text variables
Create and place password protected PDFs
Additional keyboard shortcuts for brush tools
Alt-click new layer automatically adds selection to that new layer
Holding alt when editing text puts you in hand tool
Lots of fixes too - the list for those is here.
As I mentioned in the colour picker thread earlier in the week, we have also now rolled back the changes we had made (well we've kept the new lozenge, but the other behaviour has now reverted back to how it was in 2.1). We will now re-introduce those (as well as other improvements) in the 2.3 beta. For that reason I have now hidden the colour picker thread and removed from the feature list.

Important: This build also includes some changes to how we load and save files, in particular to be more robust when files are saved on removable storage / network drives and in scenarios when connection to those drives maybe lost. We believe these changes to be safe, but there could be more risk than normal with this beta that you could encounter file save problems / lose work. For that reason wanted to remind you again that we recommend you do not use the betas for production work and create a backup of any important files you want to load into the beta.
