If Publisher (can't believe Microsoft isn't questioning the naming) enables me to do what I do with InDesign CS5 (no clouds here), then it will be worth the investment. In the meantime, I use QuarkXpress and it's actually a pleasant relief from the Adobe product line. We should all be flexible in the tools we use as a developer can go belly-up or, like Adobe, just decide to kill a perfectly usable tool and then lock it away in a dungeon to prevent further development rather than sell it off and let the product and it's users flourish. Quark may have been super arrogant at one time, but since coming back to it I've found the company quite pleasant to deal with. And just for the record, I've never had any problems with Affinity programs.

    I went with Quark 2018.
I am still very interested in Affinity Publisher however.

    This means a lot.
Also makes me feel that I made the right choice in my move from CS6.

Our ability to produce professional software is somewhat governed by income from those products. Income for us is calculated by copies x price and our current price point is simply designed to produce the greatest income. Increasing the cost of the product will not increase our ability to make competitive PRO software.

Did I really just witness someone make a purchasing decision based on their dislike of a product's Logo design?  One word...... Wow!

I think the “good” people at Abode are very happy with us believing we have no choice and that the future is subscription only for all software.

    I don’t believe that.

I ditched Master Suite CS6 for Davinci Resolve, Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, Master PDF Editor Pro and Microsoft Publisher.
Adobe are better in some cases but not all. Davinci is better than Premiere IMO but in other cases I can deal with a few “shortcomings” to break free from Shantanu Narayen and his “vision”.

Adobe has bought some great software over the years to make a solid suite but they are not immune to falling from grace.

Quark was number one for years but look what happened to them.

    Think about this:
    Quark
    Blackberry
    Finale Cut
At one point they were all untouchable.

    I love the logos.
The aperture blades of Photo and the pen/pencil drawing the line of Designer... Some thought went into that.
I wonder what they will use for Publisher.
Off topic: Microsoft has Publisher so maybe another name may be in order.

I really liked the sound of one of your 'possibilities', but couldn't possibly say which... I can definitely ease your mind on your worries though - same price, no subscriptions. We want to make software that we would buy and use (and yes, I've bought all variants myself through the App Store just to make sure I get the same experience as other customers) and we want it to be priced to not exclude anyone - we think that's the fair thing to do

Digital Publishing will be on the roadmap of free features updates.

HTML 5 responsive sounds interesting but I haven't seen it used successfully in publishing yet.

I really liked what I saw in the preview. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it will include exporting documents to the Epub format. That's my main use for Indesign CC which I use daily.

    Hi Kev D800,
you can't the automatic way. - Even you can (maybe if there is enough RAM available) open/place 60 photos at one time, you can't distribute those automatically on new artboards. Maybe you should request an import feature for this, so to say the oposite of the export persona here (import persona).
Hmm not directly, but what you can do instead is to make the text available as a symbol, which you then share among those artboards where the text should be in sync on!

Thanks for the Sneak Peak!  I'm so looking forward to trying it out.  I'm hoping for e-book output with the ability to export for a variety of formats.
