  1. I don't have a solution for you .

    But I have been playing around with formats for Web and print export and you might want to consider a landscape format for the web/computer screen.

    Viewed on a computer monitor, a page in portrait format is not ideal. If you expand to take up the width of the screen then the whole page cannot be seen. Id you reduce it to see the whole page then you waste a lot of screen space and possibly make the text too small.

    As, I say, no solution just some observations from trying to do the same thing as you suggested.

    Thanks for your reply.

    I downloaded the beta and reopened the file( a copy!).

    I selected page 7, right clicked to Clear masters. The background colour was removed.

    I then clicked on apply Masters, selected master A again. This corrected the page number position bur deleted all the text on page 7. !

    (  "replace existing" and "migrate frame content" were both  selected, as default. )

  3. WJC, I have the same problem, but in a smaller , simpler, book/document of about 40 pages. And , importantly, no deadline.

    I did try to correct the left/tight application of master pages "A" by re-applying the master but this deleted some content. So be careful even correcting it manually.

    I started a thread before reading yours ( there were no replies ).

    Needless to say , I hope you can get a solution, from which we can all learn. For my own document I am thinking of exporting the text, using cut and paste, into Word . creating a new document in A Publisher with the layout I want , and reimporting the text and images. It is an option for me only because the document I am working on is so simple. 

    I will watch this space for a solution too so I hope Serif will post here when a solution is found

     


  4. I have a simple document in Affinity Publisher. I have a master spread "A" applied to the spread of two pages. Essentially the default Master as the document is created. I have added a section name and page number to the master "A" pages. I also have a second master page, "B", which is applied only to the first page in a section and shows a heading text frame at the top.. The document contains about 10 sections. 

    Each page consists of text frames with the occasional image , linked, added . So a very simple document.

    My problem comes with deleting pages. By default I have the page number at the bottom left of left pages and bottom right on right side pages but with pages being deleted or added this is occasionally reversed on some pages.

    If I try to correct this, by selecting the page and selecting "Apply Master" I sometimes get the desired result and sometimes I get the text frame and all the text deleted.

    I there a way to correct this without starting over again?

    But I'd like to apologize to all the Affinity/Serif superfans who like to think their chosen product and company is perfect. This kind of thing happens on the forum of any good product, but luckily there are also people like IanSG who can just offer solutions instead of rejecting criticism that just might be valid. 

    If you look at previous postings from me you will see that I don't think Serif/Affinity is perfect. But it is MS policy to  sandbox any apps downloaded from their store . I too have developed for MS and I can assure I have had no luck in getting MS to change their policies. Obviously you and other developers have been more successful in influencing policy.

    I am not too sure insulting posters here will help you to a resolution. In any event I can be of no more help to you

    Surely you would not expect Microsoft to share you personal information with a third party. 

    Incidentally I have the same problem but I don't really think you can expect Serif to create modifications for Windows security and permission processes and policies

    I assume, this is a feature, which will not be present within a short time, because it is quite complicated to implement correct synchronising of

    • different document sizes/orientation
    • different document color profiles and resolution
    • different page attributes (single, facing)
    • different (or equally named) text, paragraph, graphic stiles
    • text flow
    • different dynamic elements (table of content, index, …, …)
    • and, and, and

    What really helps and prevents evil surprises: planning one’s work before layouting and using the advantages of PDF (combining documents after output)

     

    Publisher already handles different page sizes orientations. 

    I agree with MacMAcMAc, this is a simple basic requirement. And the problem with Publisher handling of PDF files means exporting and combining them is not a viable workaround for many files.

     


  10. H have had a similar issue.

    I tried to open a pdf file 96Mb. Appreciate it is large at 53 pages. mostly text but some photographs.

    After 30 minutes , with the loading document message in top right of screen, I tried to end Publisher. However I could not and had to eventually restart the computer.

    I later manages to open the document and save it as a Publisher document . I took about 12 minutes to open and about 25 minutes to save .

    Publisher does not seem to be able to handle large files.

    The same document opened in acrobat in less than 5 seconds.

     

     

     


  11. I have previously purchased Affinity Designer and Photo from Microsoft Store. And I have bee using Publisher beta. 

    Now that the full version of Publisher is available I am wondering if I can purchase Publisher from Affinity Store, with the beta user discount, and will it integrate fully with the Microsoft Store versions of designer and Photo?

    Or should I stick to Microsoft Store versions in order to ensure full compatibility?

    Any insight into potentials issues in the future would be much appreciated.

I am not sure if these are really  bugs or just a suggestion for improvement so this might be in the wrong forum.  These are  are  relatively minor issues  but I wanted to just give some feedback as they do impact on the usability of the application. I am using Windows 10 and downloaded the Latest version 1.7.0.312 on  9/05/2020   but these 'bugs' apply equally to the previous version

    Resource manager and missing resources.

    If you move resources to a new folder and they become missing in Publisher, the resource manager is not very helpful or intuitive to use. 

    When looking for a missing file , using the 'update' button it would be useful to populate the filename window with the name of the image.

    It would be even more useful if the resource manager could just be pointed to the new folder. Currently each resource has to be updated individually. With many documents having tens, or even hundreds, of resources it is a major rework.

    Text Frames and Styles?(possibly)

    I was working on a document and wanted three different text frame styles, one plain and two with contrasting backgrounds. It would have been useful to employ Text Frame Styles but they don't seem to be available. So each time I changed the appearance of a text frame those changes persisted to the next Text Frame, meaning I was constantly editing text Frame parameters. For me the best workflow is to use plain Text frames and only edit the parameters of each Text Frame at the end of the document creation but that is not an ideal way to work for me.

    I am enjoying playing with the Application and look forward to the final product to accompany my AP and AD application.

    PS. In the edit menu I can 'Paste Style' as I can also in A_Designer ( and maybe A_Photo ?) .but this menu option is not available when I right click on the mouse. It would be great if it could be accessed from a mouse click as well

     

     


  13. It you have made edits then the App is going to ask you if you want to save before exiting. Most Apps do this. If other changes are made to the file it can also ask if you want to save.) for instance in designer, if you export in different formats it will also ask if you want to save changes even though you might have made no edits

    I think this is expected behaviour?
