JazzEngineer reacted to NathanC in EPS Export mixes up the Layers
Hi @r4di_21 welcome to the forums,
As far as I'm aware due to it's age the .EPS file format does not support multiple layers/groups when exporting to .EPS or when importing .EPS files created in other apps, and as such the objects within the file get merged into a single layer when opened in Designer.
The reason this works for .EPS files created in apps such as Illustrator is because the .EPS file contains an .AI data stream embedded into the file, which when opened preserves layers due to it being contained within the .AI data stream, but since affinity can't read this proprietary .AI data, only the .EPS data stream is imported which contains no information on the layers/groups in the file.
If possible and if the supplier can accept it, it may be better to export to a format which does support layers, such as SVG or PDF.
I hope this makes sense 🙂

JazzEngineer got a reaction from KC Honie in New interface for version 2 of the Affinity suite
I request that the next Affinity suite utilize Microsoft's ribbon "menuing" interface instead of its current interface.
By now, most every Windows computer user has seen that Microsoft changed its interface from the old menuing system to the new ribbon interface for the Windows version of its office suite. I've researched which permission(s) Microsoft requires of other software vendors in order to copy the ribbon system. Their only requirement is that the product(s) being made do NOT compete with any Microsoft products. In fact, they don't even require a licensing fee of any sort if the application doesn't compete with a Microsoft product.
That does present a dilemma for Serif but I think it can be overcome. I have been using Microsoft 365 for several years now (formerly Microsoft Office) and the only product Serif makes that might compete with a program in the MS Office suite is Affinity Publisher (vs. Microsoft Publisher). But these programs are not that similar. Affinity Publisher has so much more power that it puts Microsoft Publisher to shame. That would present a problem for Serif.
Regarding the rest of the Affinity suite, I don't remember Microsoft publishing either a real draw program or a photo editing one, at least not packages anyone takes seriously.
Affinity developers, please let us know if a new interface will be possible for the next version of the Affinity Suite, particularly a ribbon interface.
Thank you,
Steve

JazzEngineer reacted to v_kyr in Visio Stencils
Hi,
yes usually either package can import bitmap photos, place and arrange those inside a document, rotate and export as a PNG bitmap. So it depends with what you work overall more here, bitmap photos or vector drawings, since both apps can deal with what you are looking for.
For Visio related stuff in this context the following tool might also be of additional help here: Image Converter for Visio
You can give it a try first, by testing with a demo version of Affinity Photo and/or Designer in order to see if it does it the way you intended.
